I bought this because of the price. Wasn’t expecting much because it was half the price of the name brands. I used standard size split hardwood I buy by the cord. It fit in there good. As long as you don’t stack wood past the top lip you get a really clean burn with barely any smoke. Probably can fit 5-6 pieces, 3-4 made a great fire. The flames were high enough and the stove produced a lot of heat and light. The whole assembly gets very hot so you’ll need to place it on some sort of crushed stone or pavers base. I got the black one. Looks great and is made out of solid steel. Cons: wish it had handles to move when not in use. The top “drum” part is not connected to the bottom. So when you move it you have to lift from the bottom. Pro: when the “drum” comes off it makes it very easy to take the bottom portion over to where you would dispose of the ash. I definitely recommend this stove. Is great for a quick fire in the yard without the mess or smoke. I live in the country but if I lived in the city with a small yard this would work great. A bag or 2 of convenient store store wood and you’ll be set for the night. Buy a cover if you don’t have storage. ... show more

I bought a 5 inch too, it's cute, but it's holds so little wood, it doesn't burn long and is hard to add to, to keep it going. This 8 inch one is perfect combination of portable, but big enough to actually enjoy the fire a bit. It holds quite a bit of wood, for how little it is, I've been using wood pellets, and cut up pieces of 2x4 and what not I had lying around the garage. This size is perfect, it's easy to get enough wood in there for a decent fire, and it's large enough that I can add wood to it as it burns low, and keep it going for more than just a single fill and burn, unlike the 5 inch. I love it for the price, wanted a full size one of these, but have no real use for a large one, I have a small campervan, and this 8 inch one is perfect for a small set up! ... show more

This is an amazing fire pit! I was searching quite sometime on Amazon trying to find one with good quality but not too expensive. I’m very satisfied with what I chose. This is easy to be assembled and super easy to start a fire. Actually on the day when we received it, we just used some backyard branches and it worked out very well. This is my first experience with one of these stoves/fireplaces. Overall, the 7-inch is functional and great for two people. It puts out a fair amount of heat without much smoke. The 5.5" just seemed to small and 8" a bit too big. This works well on the ground or on a table top. A couple of dings, though. The fold out legs do not stay folded out. When you stir the fire, one inevitably collapses. I'll need to come up with some way to make them more sticky. Second, the documentation says something about a pellet cup. This was not included in what I received. We tried using pellets on top of the flame and it turned out to be a mistake. The pellets didn't burn well and clogged up the air vents on the bottom, putting out the flame. If want to use pellets as fuel (which would be ideal given the small size), look elsewhere. ... show more

These little things work great. I bought one for myself for camping trips, didn't use it first couple trips then the wife and I got stuck in a rainy weekend and I remembered this in the box. I busted it out and fired up some pellets under our tarp shelter and had s'mores. It made a tough weather weekend a lot more enjoyable. It'll burn the first load of pellets for a while, but adding more you get some diminishing returns so at some point you'll need to dump it and start over but if you're burning that much you should probably build a regular fire or get a larger version. After one burn there was distinct "burn marks" around the upper part of the pit as mentioned in other comments. Also it seems like a poor design... It burns well at first with pellets or wood, but after an hour or so ashes build up at the bottom and block air flow, causing the fire to die. You would need to stop every hour, empty the unit, and then start a new fire. Not practical.... It's more work keeping the fire going than it is fun. ... show more
