  • Designed Specifically For Mower Blades ░░░ Full Demo In My Video
Style: Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener
The media could not be loaded. As someone who has been sharpening mower blades for over 20 years (I used to have a landscaping company called "The Sod Squad"), I swear by this mower blade sharpener. This is because of two reasons: the handle design is very easy to use (no risk of cutting yourself), and the actual design of the sharpener (one carbide side and one guide) is specific to mower blades. The sharpener works very well. Mower blades are not knives, so you don't need to put a bevel on both sides of the blade. You also don't need to get them razor sharp. Instead, a mower blade just has a single bevel, and this is why this sharpener is ideal. It's true that you CAN sharpen your mower blade with a file. But it's way easier and faster to just swipe the blade with this sharpener. ░░░ A FEW NOTES AFTER YEARS OF WORKING ON MOWERS ░░░ 1. If your blade is really old and beat up, you may need to take some of the dings out of it with a file. That will be determined by how many rocks and sprinkler heads that you've hit. 2. While it's tempting to try to sharpen the blade while it's still on the mower, don't. It's way, way easier to take the blade off and sharpen it. Plus, you'll do a better job. 3. If you don't have a bench vise to clamp your blade into when sharpening, just use a couple of 2x4s screwed together to hold the blade in place. 4. If you really want a well-running mower, use a blade balancer like this one: Oregon Lawn Mower Blade Balancer 42-100. Balancing the blade is not essential for homeowners and few people do this, but it's ideal if you're mowing a lot commercially or just really into having a fine-tuned mower. 5. A razor sharp mower blade is really overkill, because you're just cutting grass. So my advice would be to not obsess about getting a perfectly sharp blade. This sharpener will get it plenty sharp. 6. Regular sharpening, like every season or even twice a season, will keep the blade nice and sharp. If you let it get too dull it'll be hard to sharpen (like after several years). So it's a nice design with the built-in brush and sharpener angle. I strongly recommend it. ................. This product was NOT given to me as part of any promotion. I bought it after doing some comparison shopping and this review is entirely the result of my own opinions and use of the product. ... show more

  • Good Blade Sharpener
Style: Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener
This is a good product for people who don't have an assortment of tools or a garage to complete routine work. The sharpener works well with little effort and provides an even finish on the blade.

  • Simple - Easy - Results
Style: Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener
I was tempted to buy one of those sharpening stones that uses a drill. But then I saw a YouTube video reviewing this hand-held sharpener and that changed my mind. I ordered this along with a new mower blade thru Amazon. The new blade was painted (?) even on the cutting edges. I used this to remove the paint and put a sharp edge on the new blade in less than 5 minutes. It was very easy to see the sharpening action as it removed the paint from the blade edges. The wire brush is helpful but not super-durable, as I ordered the sharpener first to try and revive my old blade, but after wire-brushing it discovered cracks that made the blade unsafe to continue using. The bristles on the brush got bent pretty easily. Still handy to have it. Especially for the price and ease of use, I'd recommend this all day vs. those drill-mounted grinding stones. ... show more

  • However I recommend two of these products purchased at once
Style: Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener
Ok so this did the job on my Oregon blades. Made them very sharp and the lawn cut extremely well. However I recommend two of these products purchased at once. You see the angle of the blade was different then the set angle of the sharpener. Even though this product cut right through with little effort it dulled considerably before the last edge of the second blade and my second blade could not get as sharp as the first. Much of the carbide was wasted grinding the bevel angle. So if I had two the first would change the bevel angle of the blade and the second would blow through and fine tune the edge. From here out though I should have no issues as the grind of my blades are now set. ( I may have to grind chips out once in a while with the wheel) I did order a second set direct from Smiths as it’s considerably cheaper. But these did sharpen very well I am impressed. Minus one star because the sharpener couldn’t make it through one session. Minus one star because I couldn’t just order the replacement carbide piece. ... show more

  • Good Kit for mower blade maintenance
Style: Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener
I needed to have the blades on a reel lawnmower (non-motorized) sharpened but did no want to experience the high cost to have it done for me. Purchased this kit, followed the easy instructions and was thoroughly pleased with the results. It is like having a new mower. The cut is precise and the grass is healthy again. ... show more

  • Great Manual Lawnmower Blade Shatpener
Style: Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener
For a hand held manual sharpener, this thing works great. It sharpens the blade at the correct angle with ease. Yah, you may have to run it along the blade 15-20 times every blade or so but looks like a professional sharpen and very little balancing issues if done evenly. Great tool for sharpening lawn mower blades. Will get another when mine shows signs of not working well. Going on year 2 and it's still doing great! ... show more

  • Works as advertised
Style: Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener
I live on an acreage and have a lot to mow with both a push mower and lawn tractor. I've always wanted a way to sharpen the blades in an easy and consistent way. This tool is easy to use and does a pretty good job at getting an even profile all along the blade. Don't try to sharpen a blade while it's still on the mower. Remove the blade and clamp it in a vise. To match my blade angle I had to hold it slightly off the flat of the blade but this wasn't a problem once I got the hang of it. Don't expect it to create a sharp edge with a few strokes, especially if the blade is really dull. If there are dings and nicks you will want to smooth them out with a file first. How long will the sharpening teeth last? I haven't used it long enough to know but it should be good for a few years at least. ... show more
