    • Disappointingly Thin
The problem with ordering things online is that you can't see the quality of something. I have bought a water cooler blanket in the past, and I remember it being thick and fluffy sort of like home insulation. This thing is maybe 3/8" thick? Didappointing. I had it put on my water heater and don't know if it's really gonna insulate or not? I already bought the thing and might as well put it on, but I'm doubtful it'll help save heat and utility costs much. One other gripe is that it's supposed to be for a 60 gallon water heater. I have a 50 gallon water heater. It didn't seem like there was enough material because the guy who installed it for me overlapped where he could, but then some parts had 3 or 4" gaps, and he had no material left over. Hmm. I just covered the gaps in metallic HVAC tape...but that's not "insulated." It's hard to tell if it'll help right now because it's summer. I'm hoping with with the upcoming Winter and, given that my water heater is in an outside closet in a cold climate, that I'll see the difference then. ... show more

Soooooo easy to use. The hardest part of the installation was getting the paper backing off the sticky side. I couldn't believe the difference in my utility room temperature after I put the jacket on my heater. I even had my husband go in and feel the difference, to make sure I was feeling the difference and just not imagining it. He really noticed it too. Should help to keep the heat where it needs to be.     • There was an immediate difference in the temperature of my hot water.
The only flaw that I can admit that this product has is lack of instruction on how to install it around the tank. I noticed from one day to the next a huge difference in the performance of my water heater. I’m a single dad with only one child, our unit is a 40 gallon gas heater water heater. It used to take running the sink in the evening for a little bit so that the heater would cycle on and then waiting a little bit after to get into the shower before I insulated it. Now that it is insulated there is no longer a need to do anything that shouldn’t have to be done to have a hot shower or hot water in general throughout the day, I actually needed to turn down the temperature of the water heater because the water was too hot. There has not been one time that we have run out of hot water while showering or drawing a bath since installing this insulation. My only regret is not putting this insulation on sooner. ... show more

    • Remove the label carefully
Nice concept but need to remove the taped on label carefully as it tears the shiney silver covering.. 2 - does not fit the height of my 50 gallon hot water heater. 3 - requires a manual accomodation for the safety straps

    • Maybe not so good
My mistake was not to look at the measurements too closely. It said fits all 30-60 gallon tanks. I have a 50 gallon Rheem. It's tall and slender and in a niche in the garage several feet of the ground. I can't reach all the way around it. Bottom half I can get around but top half won't go around because it's too close to the wall. I'd have to wrap from front to back and leave open a few inches in the back. I'm also worried that I can't pull off the tape while trying to get the cover around the back of the heater or pull off the tape and cover gets stuck in the wrong place or position. I haven't tried it yet while alone. Too pricey to mess it up and hard to do by yourself if the heater is not free standing. I can already tell the top piece will not fit either. I have more pipes coming out the top, so I'd have to cut more openings. The 2 pieces together is also shorter than my water heater. There should be some left over going around and I hope it's enough to fill in the missing part. ... show more
