I bought this to replace an existing deadbolt on my front door. After unboxing, I noticed that the setback for the latch was a quarter-inch short. The directions started at the very beginning, with cutting a hole in a new door, so I was worried that I was out of luck. After a phone call, the company sent me a video showing how to expand the latch that quarter inch. If you need to do this yourself (twisting the latch), you can probably figure it out once you know it’s a possibility. Set-up was pretty easy. The outside keypad secures to a metal plate on the inside of the door using three bolts, which holds it firmly and prevents someone from simply prying it off. Attaching the third bolt at the top of the unit requires drilling a hole in the door, but a drill bit comes with the lock. The inside mechanism then attaches to the metal plate. It’s a very well-thought-out design. The movement is very fluid, and I don’t anticipate and issues with sticking or jamming. Out of the box, it can be locked or unlocked by phone via the supplied physical key, the digital keypad, or Bluetooth. You have to be within 6 feet of the unit for the Bluetooth to work. But also included in the box is a WiFi gateway. Once installed, it allows you to lock or unlock from any remote location, assuming you have cell service, and assuming your WiFi network is running. After several weeks, we’ve had no issues. It’s nice to be able to check the status of the lock remotely, and lock up if necessary. It's a great unit, and I’m glad I bought it, but there are small areas that could be improved. The app allows you to relock the door a certain amount of time after it is unlocked (i.e. keeping the door locked except for the few minutes when someone is passing through the doorway). It would be nice if it could be set to automatically lock at a fixed time of day. Also, the lock can sense whether it is locked or unlocked, but it’s really only sensing whether the latch is extended or withdrawn. If the door isn’t pulled closed, the latch may be extended, appearing to be locked, but is not in the door jamb. It would be nice to have a sensor in the door jamb to confirm that the door is actually locked. But for the price, I’m very satisfied. ... show more

I bought this lock for a short term rental property. It’s a great lock and functions appropriately once you know how to use it, however there is a learning curve. For example, you have to press the # sign after the code is entered which a renter wouldn’t know unless that information is made clear. Furthermore, locking the door is even less conspicuous. You have to press and hold the # button, as there is no lock symbol key, or any other obvious button to lock the door. Yes you can lock the door with the app however a renter will not have the app, and this is not a user friendly (self explanatory) method. I have tried to leave a sign on my door explaining how to lock up but it’s an issue almost every time. I’ve had people try to re-enter their code but this doesn’t work either (the code will only unlock but does not lock the door). It’s a great lock otherwise I just wish it was more user friendly for guests. ... show more

I have had this smart lock for over a year. It is very convenient to use. I mostly like the features to unlock and lock the door remotely. After a full year of use I had a minor issue however their customer service was excellent and tried assisting in troubleshooting the issue. Update: The Lock works great. The app and company aren't as great, but are better than I thought. It's worth it now. Updated from 2 to 5 stars. - Lock: You can set up your own codes, lock or unlock the door with your phone, and get notifications when someone uses a code to open the door. Remote unlock works, but by default it's disabled in the app settings. You have to enable it while connected with a Bluetooth connection to the lock. Once enabled though, you can unlock the door from anywhere in the world if you have a Wi-Fi or data connection where you're at. Big win. - Company: I reached out to the company to try to resolve issues via the email address they provide in the app. It doesn't work. It bounced back three times. However, I left a poor review in Amazon the first time and after a few weeks they contacted me! They wanted to work it out or refund my money, and didn't even mention returning the lock, which I was very pleased with. I didn't want a refund, I just wanted the lock to work, and with their help through a few emails I was able to resolve all issues. This is a big deal to me. - App: The app throws error messages or gives user hints that don't really make sense. Sometimes they don't even fit in the space provided and are cut off. It seems they were written in Chinese and translated to English. Based on the response from the company, though, my hope is they will iron this out in some update at some point soon. The app also didn't seem to let me share access to the lock and remote control functions with my wife's phone, but we were finally able to fix that with an admin account by using the same email address and phone number combination on the invitation as on her account with TTLock. ... show more

Has a lot of great features for the price but we really like to be able to lock & unlock from anywhere and check the status of the lock on the app. We recently even purchased a second Smonet lock for another door as well. Used for about a year and but then it stopped working. Contacted Elaine In Customer Support and she was able to replace my lock. Nice to know that Smonet stands behind their products. ... show more
