The media could not be loaded. Flew out to Vegas to film for a production. I brought my Canon R5C for filming. I was setting up my rig with the smallrig dtap and ZGcine v160 battery. I placed the dummy in my camera and plugged into the battery, immediately a loud pop and smoke coming from the battery compartment. My heart stopped. Pulled the battery as quickly as possible from the camera. Luckily I had backup options and luckily after power cycling a few times my camera turned on again. I had only used this adapter a 1-2 other times so disappointed as I generally like smallrig products. I am not sure if I would ever trust this product again for critical work. Buyer beware use at your own risk! This could have cost me 5k plus if the camera alone was damaged and the production would have been a flop... Opened it up when I got home because I could hear rattling inside, as you can see the capacitor completely exploded inside. Maybe they are using faulty or cheap capacitors but just a heads up to anyone looking into this unit.

I am updating my review because SmallRig reached out to me to correct the problem with my original order. I have tested the latest version and have not had any further issues. SmallRig customer support was very friendly, helpful, and generous. I am changing my rating to 4 stars. It seems like the product is solid, but I have to be honest about a bit of uncertainty that I still feel about my initial experience. I will update again if anything else arises. Original Review: 1 Star Do not trust this Power Cable to provide consistent power to the camera. I had this cable fail during a shoot and it was really frustrating. The unexpected loss of power resulted in a corrupted video file for an important shot. I was using a Canon R5c and SmallRig V Mount Battery VB99.

I use these when I have an extended photo shoot and I don’t want to have to be constantly removing and replacing batteries. These plug into the wall and power my camera without having to use a battery. Definitely recommended.

I have a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon 5D Mark IV, and I'm always needing expensive Canon batteries. I've been looking for a D-Tap Dummy LP-E6 Battery that I could power with heavy duty Sony NP-F batteries using a V mount converter and a Smallrig cage. This product is perfect. Smallrig products are always quality.

My Canon 6D is a battery hoarder, I don't know why or if it is normal for this model, but doing a photo session with kids is always long; and I was always running through batteries and charging simultaneously. In contrast, the 5D is much more efficient with battery use; though I wanted to try a 2 hours long exposure astrophotography, but was never able to do it. With this, I will be able. I had to buy a very good D-TAP enabled battery bank, and I did the test. I can run the camera for much longer that the two hours I want to keep it on. What I like the most about this specific dummy battery is that I can close the battery compartment door and bring the small cable outside though the protected opening it has. This is perfect, and much more affordable than the original Canon made option.

I rarely use OEM batteries because I always fear running out in the middle of shooting, so I use AC power in my studio and this device gives you the same piece of mind in the field by plugging into a bigger external battery. The “Dummy” battery fits perfectly in my cameras without needing to remove the battery door. Most of all, I like it because it’s from SmallRig, a company I can trust.
