  • Pretty good with a tiny quirk
Cool product. Feel cheaper than usual smallrig stuff but I think it may have to do with the fact that it’s for the R8 so it’s smaller than full-frame sized hardware that I’m used to. Still idk if it’s worth $69. To each their own. I’m using the R8 as a full time timelapse cam, so I wanted to use this to quickly swap from horizontal to vertical on to a smallrig compact v-mount battery mounting system plate (which has an arca-swiss for the camera). Well, the vertical arca-swiss fit nicely. Yet, horizontally it wasn’t. It was annoying and I thought that it had to do with tiny differences in the arca swiss. Turns out it’s just two rubbery protectors that were attached to the bottom of the horizontal arca swiss attachment (so as to avoid scratching your surface). I removed them (where the two white strips are in the pic) and then it easily fit. So be aware of this arca-swiss discrepancy if you’ll be making use of both horizontal/vertical (which is why you’re buying it in the first place-not sure how smallrig missed this). ... show more

  • Must have for landscape photography
I had a similar item on my Canon 6D, and bought this one as soon as I got my R8. It's proven to be an invaluable convenience for doing any work on a tripod. Pros: * The folding mechanism keeps it out of the way when shooting in Landscape Mode, and allows me to open it up and put it on my tripod when in Portrait Mode. * The included tool is firmly magnetically secured to the bottom of the cage to be used as an ad-hoc screwdriver to tighten or remove the cage. Cons: * It can be a little tricky getting my battery/memory hatch open. I hold the camera so that gravity can help as I put a fingernail in the cage to open the hatch. If I don't, the hatch won't open on its own. * When the cage is unfolded for Portrait Mode, the articulating screen is somewhat limited in motion. This can be a hassle if you shoot from the screen rather than the internal sensor, as it limits the angles you can use to view while shooting. All in all, the inconveniences haven't been a big deal for me, and I keep the cage on my camera at all times, even when shooting handheld. ... show more

  • Very good quality, just like a SmallRig product.
I am not a professional photographer, but I can tell quality products when I see them. This works very well, makes landscape and portrait shots much easier. The material is machined accurately and all edges are rounded so there are no sharp edges. Definitely can not go wrong with a SmallRig product!

  • Perfect for vertical shooting
This makes shooting vertically a breeze with the R8. I'm very happy with the results I've gotten so far with this setup. The L-bracket itself seems to me made of aluminum and is relatively light. After a few sessions I didn't notice any scratches after removing the bracket. No complaints so far

  • Love this brand
I love the smallrig brand. I know that any camera cage I get by them is going to be exceptional. This camera cage is no exception. It is light weight and sturdy, fits the camera perfectly, and it makes photography a breeze. Everything is drilled out as it should be., and there's no rough edges to hurt yourself with. ... show more

  • Super handy, only a couple small complaints.
I really like the functionality of it as a bracket. Switching from landscape to portrait and vice versa is a breeze. Solid construction and pretty low profile. Only complaints I have are the fact that you can't open the battery compartment on the EOS RP with the bracket on, and you can't flip the screen out when in the portrait orientation. ... show more

  • Well designed practical solution
This is a very well thought design with good built quality. Its comparatively lighter to the SmallRig DSLR cage but sturdy enough for the smaller form factor. All the cutouts are perfect to access to all ports etc. Allows you to switch from horizontal to vertical very easily. I questioned one thing, in both positions the Arca-swiss plate is connected to the camera plate through a hinge and spring loaded latch with push button. Two push buttons engage their respective latch depending on postition. I thought this could be a stability problem specially in a long exposure or longer focal length. However, a quick test did not show any problem. I hope it stays as stable with time. ... show more

This fits perfectly. Built really well and allows for a quick and easy transition between landscape and portrait orientation. Nice and sturdy... I am comfortable knowing this will securely hold my camera without failing.
