The product description says "double the coolness in a 2-inch cool-to-touch fiberfill cover and a 2-inch layer of responsive gel memory foam"- I have no way to tell if that's true, but I don't think it's any better at keeping me cool than the mattress alone, or any other mattress topper I've ever owned. It's a big improvement over sleeping on just my overly firm mattress alone, or the thinner, flimsier mattress toppers I've used in the past. For overall sleep experience, I'd give it 3 stars- it may not be the best, but still worth the price. Bumping it up to 4 stars because after two months, it's holding up well and seems to be a well-made, quality product. ... show more

Update: I added a star because I tried putting this on a different bed (my sons) that was softer (maybe a little too soft to begin with) and it was much more effective at making it more comfortable. It actually made that bed a little more firm, but you could feel the memory foam cradle your body more. I couldn’t feel it at all on my daughters bed. However my son didn’t like it either and wouldn’t even sleep on it for one night. My daughter who I originally got it for, likes it when it’s on the floor by itself (she did this after I took it off my sons bed). so I tried putting it back on her bed and removing some wooden slats on her bed to see if it made her bed less firm, but she still didn’t like it and won’t sleep on it either, so it looks like I’m going to still need to return it. So on the right bed and depending on your preferences, it might work. I’d say if your bed is soft but doesn’t give much support and you want more then this is likely a good choice. If your bed is way too firm I’d look for something else. Original post: I’m going to give it a little bit to see if I change my mind, and if so, update this, but the bottom line is I initially I can barely tell the difference in before and after putting this on. I gave it some time to puff up, put the fiber pad in the drier to fluff it up because it seemed really thin (it’s definitely not 2” thick- see picture). It’s maybe more like 1.5”. The foam is 2” as advertised. There is no bad smell. I couldn’t smell anything at all until I stuck my nose into the foam itself and there’s only a slight smell that I can’t smell through the pad. The pad on top doesn’t really add much to the softness. I had another 1” thick mattress pad I even tried on top of this to give it a little extra, but I’m still not impressed. If you are looking to make your bed much softer I’d look for something else. ... show more
