  • Good Shielding
Size: 1000-FT Color: Blue
I have used up about half my roll so far. I am only using it for Gigabit right now, but it is running at full speed as I tested the speed of the cable using iperf and it is very close to the expected max of the cable. The difference between the max and what i got was explained by my computer / nic hardware and driver, as other shorter store bought 6a cables got the exact same speed. As far as the shielding, I have a combined cable tester and cable tracker tool. I plug one of these two devices into a keystone jack I just wired, and then take the other device to the other end of the cable, and it is suppose to pinpoint which cable (in a bunch) I am currently wiring. Because the shielding is so good, the tool does not work well, I have to point it to the end of the wires where i cut it to make it beep, so it is obvious the shielding does actually work well. When I use this tool on UTP 5e type cable, it starts ringing before even touching the middle of the cable, but with this 6a shielded cable, it is really hard to tell. The only negative is the thickness of the cable, but if you are prepared for it, it's not that bad. ... show more

  • Be prepared for a little extra work/expense but very solid connectors
Size: 1000-FT Color: Blue
This is a good quality cable, definitely thicker than normal Cat 5e or Cat6 as others have stated. I have not tested the speeds at this point so can't answer those questions. My main reason for this review is to let you know which keystone jacks and termination connectors I used... I used the Cable Matters model 180014 shielded keystone jacks and the model 180086 shielded termination plugs. They are both heavy duty connectors, but much appreciated after *trying* to use plastic Cat 6 connectors (I couldn't find 6a) from Lowe's (they don't work, so don't try)... These are more time consuming to apply and are definitely bulkier, but I would use them again without hesitation due to the solid construction. I also ordered and used the Cable Matters 180087 crimping tool for the keystone jacks, not absolutely necessary but if you don't have this you will have to use some type of square, larger mouth pliers to crimp it shut completely. One more thing... I found it extremely useful to order a pair of micro cutting pliers to snip off the excess wire after putting the wires into the connectors, the tiny needle nose end of these pliers get in to tight spaces easily. I ordered the Hakko CHP-170 micro cutters for about $7 or $8 and they worked great. ... show more

  • Poor Quality - REDEEMED WITH PHENOMENAL customer service!
Size: 1000-FT Color: Blue
Updated Post- The CEO reached out to me and provided me with a thorough explanation of the spool of cable I received. He gave me the option for a new spool at no cost or a full refund. I accepted the full refund and it was posted immediately in reflected in my account within 24 hours. This company is definitely out to make things right and take care of their customers to the fullest. Thank you very much.! Original Post - For the price of this cable the quality was quite poor. There were many many feet of this roll that had the foil showing through as the shielding was ripped. I was pretty upset with that but I had to get the job completed. This definitely pulled my excitement of the project down considerably. ... show more

  • Can use CAT6 ethernet connectors but it is a torturous process.
While I don't have a 10 Gigabit network switch, I wanted to ensure I had the best possible backbone going to my router in order to future proof my network. I pulled out the Cat6 patch (see photo) and ran this instead. Each wire pair is shielded with foil and all pairs are wrapped with a grounding braid. As with Cat6, each individual wire is 23AWG but the insulation on this CAT6A is much thicker making it virtually impossible to get each wire into the standard pass-through connector. In order to get each wire into the correct grooves, I had to vertically pinch each wire with a pair of pliers prior to insertion (please see photo). This was after a lot of trial/error and frustration but I finally got it to work fairly consistently without having to buy the big and bulky CAT6A connectors. Basic process is Cut >> Pinch Ends >> feed. As con, this CAT6A seems to only have about 1/2 the twists per measure of distance compared to the CAT6 I have. The only way I will find out if this cable is worth all the trouble is getting a couple of 10Gb devices and testing my runs. Over all, it doesn't seem bad. ... show more
