  • Almost perfect saw Almost perfect saw
Style: Worm Dirve Table Saw
I'll just start by saying that the difference in this saw and one that might be $100-200 less is unbelievable. This saw is absolutely worth every penny if you need a quality table saw. The assembly was straight forward, but I will say that you may need to look at the pictures if you are not familiar with how folding tables work. I am and I had to adjust the bolts a little to get them properly installed. None the less I didn't buy it for assembly instructions, I bought it to cut wood. It cuts very well and the metal fence is worth it's weight in gold because it can guide a board to make a 1/8 inch cut for 8 feet with no issue. I've included a photo of a cut made. It has near furniture quality cuts on plain pine. The blade height adjustment is the only thing that I would change as it didn't have a height lock. This can me important for someone using for dado type cuts. It stays put fairly well, but there is just a little play in the adjuster. The fence has dual metal gears and while you can move it by hand I found using the dial makes sure that they are parallel to the blade. The difference between the saw and the SPT99-12 and the SPT99-11 is the Diablo Blade and I can't seem to find the 12 anywhere. The skill blade that comes with the 11 is still a great blade. It makes furniture grade cuts. The saw is easy to manipulate and move around with the large wheels. It makes pulling over a rough terrain or curbs simple as a job site saw should be. The front feet keep it in position while working and the sawdust shoot has the ability to angle exhaust or connector for shop vacuum. The worm drive is the most impressive and important part of this saw. The noise level is significantly lower than my other craftsman saw and the power is so much better. There's no play in the blade for it walk on cuts. It's a true professional experience. Other details I like are the safety switch which requires deliberately pressing the recessed on switch and easy off you can tap off. So it comes in right at 100 lb and it's manageable for one person to load in or out of a truck. Overall, this is a truly functional saw that will provide a great service life and I am extremely happy with the purchase ... show more

  • Outstanding table saw
Style: Worm Dirve Table Saw
Bought this saw to replace/upgrade a 10" table top Skil saw I had for 12 years and now passing on to my son. This saw is a huge upgrade over my previous saw with a sturdy stand that sets up, folds, and moves easily and the table is at a perfect height for me who is over 6' tall. Very well built saw that stores all of the attachments for the saw and I recommend adding the rear material support bar to it which I have done. I like that the stand the saw sits on when folded up becomes an additional material support bar on the left side of the table when the saw is set up. The saw has excellent dust collection on it own, but using a shop vac makes it close to being dustless. Love the rack and pinon fence feature which is easy to set, lock, and is accurate. The saw has plenty of power and can rip a 4x4 in one pass. The saw was in perfect alignment right out of the box. You'll probably want to upgrade the factory saw blade as it is for rough carpentry work. I also got the Dado insert plate which FYI, Amazon does not sell at the time I bought this saw. ... show more

  • Unbelievably good saw. Unbelievably good saw.
Style: Worm Dirve Table Saw
Bought to replace my old DeWalt 744 job site saw, and found it to be much better than the DeWalt. Everything about this saw is a win. The power, the incredible saw stand, and the accuracy out of the box was pretty much dead on and needed no adjustment. I just put it to work. For a job site table saw, it's the best I've seen, and I have not one bad word to say about it. I'd buy this saw again without thinking about it. ... show more

  • Bought this to replace my dead radial arm saw
Style: Worm Dirve Table Saw
Was finishing a rather large prefab storage shed and needed a saw to replace my nonfunctional radial arm saw. I like the mobility, it is a great plus and it has plenty of power. Owners manual is quite extensive and gives very clear instructions for setting up and maintaining the saw. You can download a digital copy, which I did, and had my tablet nearby referencing the manual as I setup and used the saw initially. I like the way it stows away and it is very easy to take it from the stowed condition to the ready position. If you have the room you can leave it in the ready position as it is quite easy to move around. Everything tucks into holding areas on the saw which keeps me from losing or misplacing them. A well thought out and solid saw. There are some good choices out there but I’m glad I chose the SKIL. ... show more

  • when is an inch not an inch?
Style: Worm Dirve Table Saw
this saw is almost everything i wanted. i am an old pro finish guy. i won't be verbose here so quickly, let me point out the highs and lows from a 50 someodd years of carpentry point of view. first, this saw does all i need and then some. the extra 5/8 of an inch in blade height is a bonus as i can rip 4x4's in one pass. tons of power for sure. those are the biggies. i chose this saw for those reasons as well as the rack and pinion fence and the wormdrive power. now let's nitpick. when is an inch not an inch? the thing that sent me to the moon, and not in a good way, is the fact that the ruler at the fence isn't even close to s.a.e. the 12 inch mark is actually 11 13/16". the 24 inch mark is 23 3/4", etc. how can the manufacturer have an incorrect tape measure? i had to overlay an old stanley tape with contact cement to get an accurate fence setting. that was a pain and though it is now correct, it looks like hell. it did not come with a book! so i had to figure out how to assemble it using the picture on the box. i had to figure out how to fine tune the fence and i still haven't figured out what some fittings are for. if you plan on going fourwheeling with your saw then the wheels are fine. otherwise they are huge and cumbersome. there is no provision for an outfeed table. rollerstands are fine but i often need a full table behind the saw and so i, again, had to make some modifications for that. the throat plate was (is) warped and wants to ride higher than the table. assembled, the saw takes up fully half of my shortbed pickup. i wish there was a quick disconnect for the saw from the stand. while i was reading other reviews i noticed someone saying something about the on/off switch as being hard to get at. i have no problem with the switch. it has knee bump access and the e-brake is great. i don't use guards and etc. and so i can't offer any opinions as to their performance. but i will say that i am very satisfied, mostly, with this saw. ... show more

  • Fantastic saw
Style: Worm Dirve Table Saw
Motor and fence were dead on accurate and table is reasonably flat right out of the box. Bevel stops and indicator required minimal and easy tweaking. Locking/unlocking the fence is a little more dramatic than I'd like, but the fence doesn't move when doing so. Fence and blade lift mechanisms are smooth. The included blade tested fine for what it is (rough cut), though I replaced it with something else immediately after. The design of the stand is mostly great, and i appreciate the left-side support it offers, but reaching the release lever with your foot can be a little awkward. The motor stops quicker than other saws I've used and the brushes spark when stopping, which was a little unnerving at first, but is apparently normal. I didn't find it particularly louder than any other saw, but I'm wearing hearing protection anyway. Overall a breeze to put together and an exceptional portable saw. ... show more

  • Excellent coontractor tablesw.
Style: Worm Dirve Table Saw
Excellent contractor tablesaw. All the parts were included and assembly was easy and took reasonable time. Blade was square to the table right out of the box and the fence took only a minor adjustment to make it parallel to the blade. I am very pleased with it

  • Can handle ripping harder woods.
Style: Worm Dirve Table Saw
I bought this to replace my twenty year old Bosch portable table saw after the motor seized up. Almost replaced it with a new one. It was a great saw and It did a lot of work. This worm drive Skilsaw has a few upgrades I sometimes rip oak, osage orange, purple heart and other dense woods. Even wet southern yellow pine is hard on a saw. I feel like it isn't stressed by hard woods and won't overheat the motor by the sound. The springs on the brushes of my last saw got too hot and detached from the brushes. Twice. Don't need that happening again. The large wheels, directional sawdust exhaust, and the crosscut guide locks into grooves are nice. The way the fence is gear driven is good and more accurate. I put an optional table extension attachment on it and I think it should be a standard feature, but it wasn't. Iv'e used it for a few months now and I think I made a good choice. ... show more
