Great build quality, it metal barrel feels great, no flex or plastic texture. As a result the lens does weigh more than it's plastic competition but it's not uncomfortably heavy. I find the focus is fast for portraits and stills. Slight (you have to pixel peep to notice) chromatic aberration but is easily corrected in post. The aperture ring is a light light on the detent, can move it accidentally when changing lens or if you hold that far back on the lens. The images, what really matters, are amazing. I had a friend tell me once you use a F1.4 or F1.2 lens you will look at photos in a new way. And he was right. The images are sharp, the bokeh is exactly how you'd imagine f1.4 can give you.

So far so good. I purchased this lens because I really wanted a 85mm 1.4 but didn’t want to break the bank. Sirui really knocked it out the park with this lens. The image quality is great really sharp in the middle. Light weight and the focus speed isn’t that bad. The only thing that I don’t like is that the aperture ring doesn’t lock. It doesn’t take much to accidentally change your aperture while shooting but that’s not a deal breaker. Overall it is a really good lens!

On video performs wonderfully on a A7S3. I use multiple systems and found the results from this lens focus and looks wise was close to the RF VCM 35 1.4L for my Canon RF system. It has very pleasant out of focus (Bokeh) areas, sharp where you focus, but also a nice character to it that works very well for the price you pay. Balancing it on a RS4 gimbal was a breeze, and there wasn't anything difficult on it. Installing a focus ring on it to use motorized focus was fine, though for most of my use AF was on point and had no issues. Only issue I had with it is the minimum focus distance is a little lacking compared to other lenses in the arsenal. It was great for a collar up headshot on a client, but for closer details I found the distance was a slight struggle sometimes. It felt a lot stronger using this composition wise for being a little further away from the subject, but with active punch in and loseless zoom on the A7S3 it wasn't the worst to deal with. Did throw this on the EV-E10 II to snap a few photos and did love the results. Has a beautiful rendition to it and felt quick and perky to use. Having used my friends 35gm lens to try a few things, I can say there isn't a deep desire to get one after using this for a few sessions. This covers the bases for me for a prime 35mm for video.

I've been a fan of Sirui's anamorphic cinema lenses for a while but I honestly didn't even know they made spherical lenses. My Nikkor 24-70mm ƒ2.8 is my workhorse lens and I probably shoot 90% of my photos with it, but I've been wanting a good portrait lens ever since I moved to mirrorless and sold off my F-mount lenses Unfortunately, I don't do enough portrait work these days to justify dropping $2600 on Nikon's lovely 85mm ƒ1.2 Z-mount lens, but when I got the e-mail announcing the 85mm Auroria (with Black Friday discount to boot), I impulse bought it without even thinking. It helped that I had almost exactly the right amount of points on my credit card to get it without spending cash, I'll admit. But, even if I had paid cash out of pocket, I would have zero regrets. It's a really freaking nice lens. As with all of Sirui's lenses, the build quality is great, especially considering the price point. It also somehow manages to feel both modern and vintage at the same time. The satisfying clicking you can turn on when using manual aperture brings me back a few decades, but the option to also spin it to A and just use it like any other Z-mount autofocus lens really seals the deal. I haven't had a chance to really use it in anger yet, but I took a few test shots around my studio and a couple outdoors after sunset. The low-light performance is really solid and the bokeh is really beautiful. I also shot a test grid out of curiosity. There is a bit of pincushion distortion, but it's pretty minimal and nothing that you would notice in most real-world shots. I'm very much looking forward to running this lens through its paces, but I have little doubt it's going to quickly become my #2 lens for still photography.

Image quality - A Autofocus speed - B+ Build quality - C I give build quality a C because of 2 things 1. The aperture ring is too close to the grip and digs into your fingers. Use it enough and you’ll start blistering 2. The aperture ring does not have a lock. So you may accidentally knock the lens into f16 by accident Those are my 2 qualms but it really is an amazing lens and I would recommend this well over the GM version. I’ve used both and optically you can’t tell the difference. So save yourself $1200 and get the Sirui
