  • The elephant in the room: Large & heavy but great performance for the price.
Style: EF Mount
These dropped to ~$1000 on sale and I had to pick one up. Finding a parfocal zoom that performs nicely within a budget price range is hard to do. Although the 28-85 does not have the best wide open performance (T3.2) I found it more than enough when covering events. Parforcal performance is accurate with proper shimming and the image produced when stopped down makes for a great addition to my lens line up. All rings are smooth and nicely dampened. For my use case I am pairing the 28-85 to APSC and Super 35 sensor cameras (BlackMagic & Fujifilm). The elephant in the room with this lens is its size and weight, this is a BIG and heavy lens. I prefer keeping this lens on a shoulder rig as it becomes unruly with a cine saddle/handheld rig. Additionally make sure that you properly support this lens with a screw in lens to rail mount, given its size I would not be surprised to see a snapped lens mount. Another aspect is close focus, I found distances to be reasonable but do not think that you will get any macro level close ups. Distortion is nicely controlled and if using on a S35 sensor the added crop will help keep those elements out of frame/minimized. Overall if you are in the market for a parfocal lens for a budget price (especially useful for events), this should be on your shortlist to at least rent. ... show more

  • An absolute unit
Style: EF Mount
We rented this lens for a feature last summer to be paired with the Mars Anamorphic set, I loved it, and when I saw the recent price drop, I pounced. $1064 for this lens feels like I did something illegal. It's big, heavy, and built like a tank. The lens itself is extremely impressive - it looks and feels like a piece of art itself - and the images are fantastic (dare I say instantly cinematic?) - crisp but not with that digital sharpness, and just enough character. The zoom, focus and iris are silky smooth, the focal range covers just about everything I need, and the T3.2 becomes T2.2, with a speedbooster, which is pretty insane for a parfocal cine zoom. Even the case is impressive. I expect to be using this lens, along with the Mars set, for years to come. Great job, Sirui! ... show more

  • Exceeded Expectations
Style: EF Mount
Fantastic lens. It captures beautiful images, has excellent build quality, smooth focus, zoom, and aperture rings, and was packaged even better than an Apple product. It is a heavy lens, so make sure you have a decent lens support.

  • The Sirui 28-85mm Parfocal Cine Lens is what I've been waiting for.
Style: EF Mount
The media could not be loaded. I can't say enough about this lens. For the price, it's a clear steal. I have a lot of Canon lenses I use with my Pyxis 6K cinema camera as well as Rokinon cinema lenses, all purchased through Amazon. But changing lenses during a shoot drives me nuts, especially if I have a complex rig setup. The sir 2885m full-frame Parfocal Zome Cine Lens allows me to use most of my popular mm lenses all in one which frees me up to establish the distances I want to shoot at without swapping out lenses and slowing down the filming process. I've included a handheld run and gun short film shot at dusk. The lens performs flawlessly. I love the feel, quality and look of this lens. It's all metal and it is heavy but I don't feel cheated in the least. It's a real jewel. My rig setup with this lens is a bit busy but once I got use to it, I can't imagine shooting any other way. ... show more

  • Amazing Lens - The Price is imposible to beat
Style: EF Mount
I've shot with all types of lenses for the last 20 years. Arri, Zeiss, Angenieux, Cooke, etc. I put together a small kit for myself so I wouldn't have to keep renting for smaller jobs. Ended up going with the Sirui Saturn Primes and this zoom. Can't tell you how happy I am with the purchase. It produces great images and has all the ergonomics and feel of its more expensive predecessors. ... show more
