  • Great machine, easy to setup and use!
Style: Heavy Duty 4432 High Speed Sewing Machine
I'm very much a novice at sewing but this machine is easy to setup and use. The instructions are a bit vague, but there are plenty of YT videos available to give you a better feel of how it operates. I use this for alterations and it plows through a denim hem without hesitation. The threading and bobbin loading are very straightforward and the multiple stitches it sews, are easy to set up. I'm very pleased with this machine. ... show more

  • Good machine for the money
Style: Heavy Duty 4432 High Speed Sewing Machine
Love this sewing machine! I grew up on a 1972 and was afraid of how much of a difference it might be but it was rather easy learning to thread and getting to be used. I haven’t used it for anything heavy duty like leather but it has gone through some pretty thick quilting materials.

  • Excellent sewing machine. Perfect stitching.
Style: Heavy Duty 4432 High Speed Sewing Machine
The sewing machine sews spectacularly. The only issue is that the needle used to be on the left when sewing. I opened it up and found a loose screw; tightening it fixed the needle's position, right in the middle. Yes I do recommend it 💯%. Excellent machine.

  • Not for absolute beginners
Style: Heavy Duty 4432 High Speed Sewing Machine
I had to have this machine serviced about a month and a half after I bought it. I take most of the responsibility for this, mostly because I tried to sew through a particularly thick section of vinyl. HOWEVER, there's a few things I'd like to mention in the hopes of helping out folks like me who are looking for a first, domestic sewing machine. Negatives- 1. This machine did not come with a paper user manual. I'm ok using a PDF as a manual, if just given that I have my cell phone with me any time I'm using this machine. However, the manual is for several machines in the "heavy duty" line, so not all of the pictures are accurate to this machine specifically. Also, the PDF is set up so that one page is in English, then the next 3 pages are reproductions of the English page in various other languages, so it is very difficult to navigate the PDF by page number, even going off of the table of contents. 2. The user manual is not comprehensive. This is my first domestic sewing machine, so although there is a flyer in the package which shows you how to thread the upper and lower tensions for the first time, there are still a bunch of stitches on the machine which I haven't used and are not in the manual. There is a stitch guide on Singer's website, but it is all images which you must then click to get a basic description. Basically, it feels like I have the figure out length, width, and tension for about 75% of the stitches on my machine on my own. I wouldn't really have a problem with this either, were it not for the fact that just getting the timing fixed on this machine starts at $60, which makes me reluctant to mess around with settings. 3. Not actually "heavy duty" by a lot of definitions. Essentially, it seems a more accurate description of this is something along the lines of, "Heavy [Domestic] Duty". As in, the machine has handled materials like vinyl and canvas for me, but the timing went completely off pretty much immediately after hitting a single section of vinyl which was twice as thick as the rest. The folks at the repair shop said that I shouldn't even be doing vinyl or canvas at all on this machine, and that pretty much anything I might consider heavy duty should be done on an industrial machine. 4. Not a ton of accessories. It seems like common practice for manufacturers to only include the bare-minimum of feet. You get four feet with this machine, which is great, but there are a lot of other little accessories which it seems the manufacturer could have included extra or spare, just for convenience's sake. Stuff like the spool holders and bobbins. Maybe the bobbin case cover. Positives 1. Easy to use once you've got the basics. Takes less than 30 seconds for me to reset the thread to begin sewing again. Automatic threading tool is great. Bobbin case is easily accessible. Seems like all the switches and dials and levers are manual and easy to find. 2. Plenty of features. While I mentioned earlier that the machine may have too many stitches for me as a beginner, it also has more directly useful features like the automatic buttonhole setting and the button sewing setting. I already mentioned the automatic threading tool. The machine also has an LED light built-in, which is nice if just because I shouldn't have to worry about changing it nearly as soon as I would have to if it were an incandescent. 3. Sturdy, yet portable. Really the biggest reason I went with this machine in the first place, and it has not disappointed me in that regard. Metal frame and stainless steel surface in the sewing area make me feel a whole lot less anxious about using this machine in general (I'm a big guy with big, shaky hands, and I haven't managed to poke myself with the needle or scratch the stainless surface or knock the machine over... yet). I work in steel and can imagine the sturdier frame also contributes to less frequent timing adjustments, but I don't know that for sure. It came with a basic cover and has a carrying handle, which made it relatively easy to get to the repair shop. ... show more

  • First defect found before turning machine on. And WARNING: this uses only SINGER needles, can't use Schmetz!
Style: Heavy Duty 4432 High Speed Sewing Machine
After I put the machine on the table I was SHOCKED to find that this "heavy duty" machine uses thin needles made just for SINGER machines. So I can't use any of my special thread/fabric Schmetz needles I can use with my other sewing machines, sergers and overlocks machines that I have or share with friends. I had to wait 2 days for amazon to ship size 16 and 18 Singer needles before I could proceed to test "heavy duty" sewing with this, I think it comes with size 11 needles. Next, looking at the dials I was SHOCKED to see the needle positioning dial had only three choices, left, right and center. I have used sewing machines for 40+ years and I have NEVER seen a zig-zag sewing machine before where the needle position was limited like this. Then trying to move the needle left and right DID NOT WORK, it only moved the needle way left and 1/2 way between center and left. But I thought before returning it, at least I would test how well it handles my heavy duty projects and how well the stitches turn out. Finally got the heavy duty needles. The machine actually made perfect seams for the limited time I tested it. I did not test button holes or all the stitches but what I tried worked out really well. The machine was speeding over thick fabric stacks (thick terry towels, fleece) using my favorite 3-step zig-zag stitch set max wide - I use that as a quilting method when there is no need for any pretty designs. That was the primary reason I wanted this low cost machine, not to wear out my more expensive quilting machine for simple projects. Then I wanted to test top stitching using #69 nylon thread. SHOCKED again because now after 30 minutes of sewing other than straight-stitch, the needle position could no longer be changed. So if I end up replacing this unit with a new unit I will try to avoid moving the needle position at all. The dial is not very easy to move, and it does not seem to have a solid gear behind it, seems like it would wear out very easily. It's louder than any other sewing machine I have ever used and sounds like it could use oil somewhere. Pros: it's very sturdy and did not vibrate. The light is good. I love the easy to use bobbin cover and looks like the metal face plate should also be easy to open/close for maintenance. By the way, many Brother sewing machines (e.g CS6000i) have an absolutely horrible metal/plastic face plate system, way too frustrating to clean the base, and Brother's flimsy plastic cover right in front of the foot keeps me from pressing down on a bulky corner for better results - I donated my CS600i. I got this machine on a PRIME DAY deal and now I'm wondering if I should return it or replace it. If I replace it I'll update with review of the new unit. I'll use this one more before returning it to see if something else fails. CUSTOMER SUPPORT on the web states call M-F 8am-8PM. I called, the voice said they had "changed their service hours to M-F 8am-8pm", then another voice said they "close at 4PM CT ...call when they are open".... . So all that makes me wonder if Singer has anyone who knows what they are doing, no quality control?? Made in China. I wanted to find out more about warranty and service under warranty, but failed to get any info Fri 2pm calling from Arizona. ... show more
