  • A great machine
Bought this for my mom as a Christmas gift. She is very pleased with the quality of the machine and how well it operates. She is a beginner sewer and this machine was very easy for her to learn with!

  • Very disappointed
ISSUE: I purchased the 7285Q Patchwork Singer model six weeks ago for quilting projects. I loved this machine until it locked up after using it only three times. The error code is C4. Very disappointing. STEPS TAKEN TO RESOLVE: 1) Read instruction manual, it was useless in offering solutions to fix error codes; 2) extensive research for information on the internet (didn't find anything helpful); 3) contacted Singer customer support. What a joke! The support person read from a procedural manual to walk me through steps to reset the machine. After less than 15 minutes she concluded the issue would require professional service. I was and still am very skeptical. Keep in mind I have an older Singer model that I've had for 20 years and it still works great! OPTIONS: 1) Mail the machine to a Singer service center in Atlanta,GA at my own expense sense there are no centers located in my State; OR 2) return the machine to the seller (again I would have to pay for shipping plus up to 20% restocking fee). Neither of these options seem fair or reasonable to me!! ... show more

  • Singer Patchwork
I have had this machine since January 2020. I liked it because it was easy to use. But my complaint is the “bobbin basket”. Not sturdy and made of plastic. My needle jams bc bobbin thread tangles and the basket has broken twice. 1st time under warranty , but again not under warranty. I think I may be looking for a new heavy duty machine. They don’t make machines like they use to. ... show more

  • nice sewing machine
I have not used the quilting yet, but have been sewing a lot to make Christmas presents and have been very happy with the machine.

  • Look elsewhere for apparel sewing
I'm an experienced sewist with both high end and low end machines. Among my machine collection is a non-computerized Singer Heavy Duty that I use for topstitching, quick basic buttonholes, and anytime I am sewing through multiple layers of denim or another heavy fabric and don't want to subject my nicer Juki to such abuse. The downside of the Heavy Duty is that it only has four different stitch lengths and no "needle down" function. So when I saw the Singer Patchwork on sale for a steal at my local fabric store, I bought one as a means of upgrading my Heavy Duty. I think I should have taken the "Patchwork" name literally, because this machine is not built to handle anything tougher than quilt piecing. It locks up and spins its wheels anytime I'm sewing on moderate thickness--I have to hand crank it to get it sewing again. And the automatic buttonhole is a joke. It only works about 35% of the time and, when it does, the stitching looks atrocious. I wish I hadn't been such a cheapskate and had paid about $50 more for the Brother equivalent or the new computerized Heavy Duty. ... show more

  • Singer Sewing Machine 7285Q
I'm only giving it 4 stars because I wish the throat was larger for quilting and the automatic needle threader has to have the needle in the exact spot to work. Other that that this is great. I love the ease in choosing stitches. Two buttons to choose a number for the stitch. I rarely change anything else, as it's all automatic. I've changed the straight stitch length for quilting, but found I really didn't need to. I love the needle down button. Great for quilting or turning corners when I have to lift the presser foot. The auto speed on the machine helps with my Free Motion Quilting or other sewing when I need to sew slower because my foot just presses down. Love the drop in bobbin with clear case. Now I can see when I'm getting close to the end of the bobbin thread (as opposed to my front loading bobbin). I bought this after Thanksgiving in 2012 and it still runs smoothly (after cleaning out the bobbin area for dust--which I didn't think to do). I've sewing cotton, knits, quilts, lace, on this machine. Haven't tried double needs or used all the feet or even all the button hole options. I love the decorative stitches, they just add a little extra (especially to bags). ... show more

  • Quilting
I like adjusting the stitch length. It doesn’t give me any info on quilting. I wish it gave me some info about it as I am just starting to quilt.
