  • 4.0 out of 5 stars As Advertised
The chuck works well but using it to sand or straightening vase bottoms is tricky as it is hard to get them centered and keep suction. I thought the manifold may have been letting air escape after a vase lost suction and flew off while i was sanding the bottom but after I used a ceramic plate to test the chuck I found it was User error and not the chuck.. I'm sure after using this product several times anyone would be able to get past the 'newbie' mistakes and get it working like it should. I bought the vaccum and manifold kit that was advertised along with it and I am happy with my purchase. I will say this about a vaccum chuck - be prepared for a real learning curve 😉 ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Good Product
I am new to wood turning and the lathe. At first I had problems keeping my project attached so I called customer service and once they helped me find the problem it worked as expected. They were very helpful.

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Compare to Hold Fast
The Harrison Specialties vacuum chuck works OK for some shapes of medium to smaller sized bowls. The rubber gasket aged over two years with infrequent use in my shop, and left black marks on bowls. A replacement is $8.50 + 4.50 shipping, but it's just flat 1/8" self adhesive rubber, and a much better deal is to buy a sheet of Sponge Neoprene With Adhesive 1/8" Thick X 54" Wide X 1' (~$18) sold on Amazon, and cut the gaskets, leaving plenty of extra for shop use. The Hold Fast 6" chuck (http://www.amazon.com/Vacuum-Head-1-1-TPI/dp/B0036AYYE4/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1404153118&sr=8-6&keywords=vacuum+chuck) holds larger bowls MUCH better, but a vacuum adapter is also required. It is possible to make an adapter (I made mine with a small bearing, some PVC pipe, and 5/16 barbed/threaded "L" brass fitting). Hold Fast makes smaller and larger chucks, but I haven't tried them. The Harrison Specialties chuck may be a good solution for spinning some bowls, and it is complete (no vacuum adapter is needed) but it has limitations and a fairly high price. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great!
This chuck works perfectly. I have a vacuum pump for evacuating a/c systems that is only 3cfm and it holds just fine. I have used it for a 14" dia bowl turning so far.

Heavy duty, solid, and runs true on the lathe. Works great and I would recommend it to anyone who turns bowls.
