Description

Your fabric blade, like your sewing scissors, will dull when used with paper. That's why it's important that a separate blade is kept on hand for cutting fabric with your silhouette. The silhouette fabric blade is identical to the current silhouette blade except for its distinguishing color.

  • Awesome blade for fabric however in case you do not ...
Awesome blade for fabric however in case you do not know the regular blade and the fabric blade are the same. They just put the fabric blade in the blue unit. Never use your fabric blade for anything but fabric. I have my blades designated for fabric, one for paper and one for vinyl. This way my blades last much longer. Cutting paper will dull your blade fast. When I change out my vinyl blade I send it to my paper cutting blade box and I do the same with may fabric cutting blade. I am very well organized LOL so if you do this make sure you keep your paper cutting blades all in one place and be careful not to get them mixed up. ... show more

  • Silhouette Fabric Blade
The blade works great on fabric and is adjustable for depth, but be careful. Use a setting of 1 to 3 to start and do a practice of something very tiny first. If you accidentally cut through the mat, repair by keeping the piece in place then just affix on the back side with duct tape. Practice first before cutting big pieces. Spend time learning because it is necessary to accomplish tasks with this unique tool. AND, this type of blade and the Silhouette machine it works in are wonderful for pre-cutting applique shapes of fabric that will be stitched onto clothing, etc. Again, practice by using a lower setting to avoid cutting through the mat. Write down your settings for various pieces of fabrics. Keep notes for future reference. ... show more

  • It's fun to cut fabric again!
Just about everything you've heard about the Silhouette is true. It's one of those things that you'll wonder how you lived without. Since I work primarily with fabric, I got this blade. It's so nice to no longer have to hand cut little designs out of fabric. My fingers would get tired, and yes, even professionals cut themselves! And then bleed on the fabric...the smallest cuts end up in disaster. Now that I have the fabric blade for my Silhouette, I can cut anything that I can design in the Silhouette Studio application. I really like unique things, and that's reflected in everything I make. The blade is perfect for appliques, custom designs, and if I want to create something for my home just for fun. I'm really happy with it. ... show more

  • Cuts very well!
This silhouette fabric blade cuts very smoothly! I am very impressed with how well this cuts all types of fabrics! The blade lasts for a long time and is easy to clean if anything gets stuck in it for any reason. It slides in and out of my machine easily, and is easy to change the depth with the cap provided. This price is wonderful as well, it is definitely more affordable than purchasing blades from my local crafting stores! ... show more

  • Good for having a dedicated blade for fabric projects
I have bought these blades many times and since they are absolutely necessary I cannot compare them to other blades. Personally, I like the fact that they have a blue and a black blade because I use my blades for different projects and this helps to keep my fabric projects all on one blade. The problem I have with these blades is that they do not seem to last very long. I realize that a blade will last longer with some projects versus others, but I find posts all the time from other people saying that they have used the same blade every day for multiple projects and haven't had to replace their blade even once in over a year. I seem to be replacing mine (for fabric more often) every other month IF I'm lucky. I don't even use it every day! Cleaning the strings and fabric out of the blade is not easy, either. The instructions are rather lacking and although I have found some information online, the best information has been from trial and error. As far as if this is a good blade... it is EXACTLY like the black ones (which I knew when I bought it) and has the same length of life on similar materials than the black one would. Do you need a blue one instead of a black one? I don't think so. It's more of a convenience factor, so go with whatever is the cheapest at the time. I AM happy that I can usually buy them on Amazon with Prime and not have to pay for shipping plus the cost is often times lower than through Silhouette directly. ... show more

  • Makes creating Bday Applique numbers go much faster
I have had my Silhouette Cameo for 2+ years and I am reasonably good at figuring out blade depth, medium thickness, matt tackiness required for most paper creations. Using the Fabric blades is definitely most challenging--but is highly dependent upon your use. I used on jersey knit that is backed with medium interface and then adhesive backing. In this scenario I have found it is best to place the jersey knit face down so that the blades first point of contact is the line paper covering the adhesive backing. Other tips would be to clean out around the blade regularly and don't be afraid to raise and lower the blade depth accordingly to the cuts you are getting. ... show more

  • Same fabric blade you will find in silhouttte store
I am very happy with this blade. It comes in the Silhouette package with the blade and the ratchet cap. I prepped my fabric with a good ironing, then I applied iron on adhesive (I use Heat N Bond Ultra Hold). I have heard to apply spray starch as well, but I skipped this step and it turned out fine. When my machine finished cutting, it looked like it didn't cut all the way through, but I was pleasantly surprised when I lifted the excess. The blade created a crisp, clean cut on my fabric. The fabric blade will make my machine appliqués so much more easier to complete. ... show more
