Top Amazon Reviews

  • Thorough review: Read through all the way!
Style: 12-inch Size: King
So, I have had the best for less than a week, but I think it's important to review thus far; however, I will also do updates after a month or so. I received the bed on Monday; I thought it strange that it did not come in the blue duffel bag like the description detailed, but we proceeded to take it out the box and it did inflate after a few hours, and completely after about 24 hours. HOWEVER, the outside box said that it was the Memoir 12" but it only measured to 10" (this is after the required 48 hours - the Signature Sleep booklet says that you can sleep on it out the box, but it requires a full 48 hours to fully inflate). So, here is where it gets tricky. Either we had a defective Memoir 12" that did not fully inflate to 12" OR we were sent another type of Sleep Signature Mattress because the Memoir only comes in 6", 8" or 12". We were going to have it replaced, which Amazon Customer Service seemed really excellent in the entire process; however, the situation got resolved. I think we just had a defective 12" because it looks like the picture with the exception of it not fully inflating. The mattress is firm...very firm. Not so firm that it's like sleeping on the floor, but it is firm. If you're laying in one spot then you can feel it soften up a bit. It's not uncomfortable but it's not as soft as I would like. To remedy that, I will just buy a mattress topper, and I believe it will be perfect. I am on the heavy side (about 240), so I had concerns with rather it would sink or not. Even with it not fully inflating to 12" it still holds my weight REALLY WELL. Of course, I have a solid foundation. Two twin xl box springs - not the box springs with actual springs but it's like wooden slats (like an actual wooden box but with a breathable cover), but they still call it a box spring. I believe with the great support I have, it holds well for my weight. Only when I sit directly at the edge does it sink in, but still not to the very bottom; it holds well. As far as it sleeping hot or cold...I believe it sleeps cold, but that's because it's winter. I am an extremely hot-weathered person. Between my spouse and myself, I am the one that will wake up in the middle of the night, throw off the covers and complain how hot I am, even in the middle of winter. On this mattress, however, I was cold. I was like really cold, BUT do not let that detour you. Once I put a blanket on top of the mattress, then I was fine; nice and toasty. So, once I buy a mattress pad, along with the mattress topper, it will give it that good feel that I like and want or I'll just keep a blanket over it and sleep on top of that, which I was doing with my previous mattress anyway - my spouse and I prefer that compared to regular sheets. I will say this, my spouse had a water bottle on top of the mattress and then jumped on the bed...the water bottle didn't move. Of course, I wouldn't suggest getting a glass of grape juice and jumping on the bed like they do in infomercials, but I'm just saying - the bottle didn't move. As far as moving around on it, it seems to not disturb the other person. My spouse is 100% comfortable. We both have had back aches, so it was important to know how this would feel - I still had a little bit of aches (very minor) and my spouse had none. Of course, I am heavier and I like the bed softer, so that may have something to do with it. I am a stomach sleeper, so I had to put a pillow under my pelvis for the extra support and I was fine. It's great if you are a slide or back sleeper because it fully supports you. I just think for stomach sleepers, you need the extra softness to fully enjoy it. Like I said, on my side I didn't have any aches at all and just slight aches on my stomach. I believe as my body continues to get used to the new mattress then it will completely be eliminated. Overall, I think it is a good buy. I recommend it, but you just have to tailor it to fit your needs. For the price, I don't mind buying a nice mattress topper to get that softness I want because I am still coming out cheaper than if I had when to a brick and mortar retailer. The mattress out the box is super soft; the fabric that covers the mattress. Just make sure to watch the video on how to open it BEFORE actually opening it which can be found on this Amazon page. Again, for the price I recommend. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because it did not inflate to the full 12". HOWEVER, doesn't let that detour you because if you do have a problem, Amazon is great about rectifying it. IF you do have that issue where it's not right and you need to return or replace; ensure that you speak with the LARGE ITEMS DEPARTMENT of Amazon. The first rep I spoke with (regular customer service, not apart of the Large Items Dept) tried to tell me to deflate the mattress and put it back in the box - that answer was unacceptable; however, the Large Items Dept handles it more accurately. Again, do not let any of that detour you from buying the mattress because it is worth it for the price; I'm just giving you a heads up in case you need it. I like to do thorough reviews. I read a lot of reviews and did a lot of research - this mattress is a best buy. Some did say that after a year or a few years they had problems with the mattress sagging - to that I say, the price alone is worth it, even it it's for only a year; however, the manufacturer has, at least, a year warranty; so exhaust all of your options before giving it a negative review after a year or so later - it's still cheaper than buying a Tempurpedic or Sleep Number (which I was originally going to do). Some reviews say it last great even after a few years, so it just depends on the individual experience. Just make sure you have a good foundation. The box says that it is a mattress to be used without a foundation; I believe that means you can set it directly on a platform bed and be fine, which you can; however, the Sleep Signature website (and booklet) says it is made to be used on any solid foundation so I think we made the right choice going with the box springs, but again, make sure the box springs doesn't actually have springs in it, because I read that will hinder memory foam mattresses. I bought my new box springs from Mattress Firm for $80 each, and what the rep told me is that box springs now a days are called box springs but are not actually made with springs because memory foam works best with a solid foundation and actual springs would give it to much "give" which is bad for it. Just do your research. Again, I am on the heavy side (almost 240) and my main concern was if it can hold me, which it does. The mattress has been tried and true; it's good. No noise. No movement. Nice and sturdy.I will review after about a month, and then again in about 6 months to give another review, but so far so good. Enjoy! Hope this helps. ... show more

  • A great nights sleep, a great value, so far anyway.
Style: 12-inch Size: Queen
We have been using this mattress for a week now, so I now feel comfortable writing an initial review (no pun intended). I like the mattress a lot, I ordered my kids twin inner spring mattresses from Amazon last year, so the rolled up vacuum packed mattress concept wasn't the novelty it was then, but was still kind of cool. Naturally the mattress is a bit heavy, my very healthy 19 year old son and I had no problem carrying it (still in the box) to my bedroom, we had more trouble carrying the old pillow top mattress out. The box has a cartoon of a tiny female loading the mattress in its box into her Mini and carrying it into her house, she must be a very strong woman, she would have to be to accomplish this by herself. Anyway, the mattress unrolled and inflated without issue, and didn't even have wrinkles on the cover. Once inflated and ready, we put the same sheets we used on our old pillow top on it, and they fit very well, and were easier to get the corners pulled down than the old mattress. We reused our old (very high quality, very good condition) box spring, and it doesn't seem to be a problem with this mattress at all. I have never used a memory foam mattress before, aside from trying them out in a couple of stores (After laying down on one I was hooked). I have always preferred a very firm mattress, my wife prefers a soft mattress, so we have never been able to find one that was just right for both of us, until now. The first few nights I was a little off put by the feeling when you first lay down on the mattress, it felt kind of mushy (remember, I like a very firm mattress), but once you lay down the mushy feeling goes away and everything feels nice and firm, not hard, and certainly not lumpy, just nice and firm, once you have sank down into it and it contours to your body, the feeling is hard to describe, but it is very comfortable and pleasant. My wife also really likes the mattress. We have both been sleeping better, and I wake up feeling more rested. Our old mattress wasn't completely worn out, but it was showing its age at eight years, and my wife was starting to complain. It wasn't until I slept on the new mattress that I realized how bad the old one was. I have minor back issues, and the old mattress wasn't helping matters, the new one does help them, since getting it I have been waking up feeling great. I had been waking up with minor pain in my back, and my knees and shoulders feeling a little stiff and aching a bit, I just chalked it up to getting older (I am 41, and have lived an action packed life, never holding back physically), but since changing mattresses I have felt great in the morning. I didn't realize it at first, I just woke up and went about my routine (I am not a morning person), a couple of days later I realized that when I stood up after drinking my cup of coffee that my back wasn't aching, and my knees weren't cracking, I also noticed that my shoulders felt fine. I won't say it was a life changing experience, it wasn't. What it was was a good reminder that you spend a huge part of your life in your bed, and compared to what you get out of it a few bucks more or less on a mattress is nothing, and with the prices for this mattress there is no reason to accept a worn out or poor quality mattress. My only concern is longevity, neither my wife or I are that overweight (I have to admit to suffering a bit of middle age spread, but no more than 20 pounds), so I would expect a quality inner spring mattress to last 6-10 years, and would like to think I will get that much out of this mattress, but if I don't I won't be upset, the price is half of what I expect to pay for a lower end quality traditional mattress, so if I replace it after three years, I will still be ahead, four years or more and it is still a bargain. I still have a few questions about this mattress, and concerns, but won't know the answers for a while. It is February in East GA, the weather is cool, so I wouldn't be able to tell you if it holds too much heat until later in the spring. I honestly don't know how it will hold up over time, but I do know this, if it is still performing like it does now in two years, I will almost certainly replace it with another one just like it, if it lasts three years I promise you I will replace it with the same model. However it works out, I will update this review for better or worse. UPDATE Nearly three years later and I am still happy. One side is starting to get worn out, but that is my fault, I haven't rotated the mattress a single time, I don't think it would be an issue if I had. After a couple of long hot summers I have no complaints of the mattress being too hot. When it is time to replace it, I will get another memory foam, maybe this same model. ... show more
