  • Firm but nice.
Size: Twin Style: 8" Reversible
I have been trying for years to find a comfortable and inexpensive bed. I'm still not there, yet. The major mattress makers love to toss around the word "plush". Every bed is plush. In effect, plush is an industry code word for firm or very firm. The mattress makers have a racket going. 60 Minutes did an entire story about the price-fixing, outrageous mark-ups, and anti-competitive practices of this entire industry. The truly comfortable mattresses are priced like a good used car. I'm serious. As for those of us with more modest budgets, we must settle for...plush. I was impressed that this bed had so many reviews (mine makes 227), and mostly five-stars. Clearly, this bed has a lot of satisfied customers. A good sign, so I ordered one. It came in a fairly large box. Heavy, too. The shipping weight is about 45 pounds but it feels more like 70. In addition, the box has no handles or lifting straps. It's a project lugging it about. A tip: Get a pillow for padding and lift it onto your shoulder. I've seen YouTube videos of this bed being set up. I highly recommend that you view a couple to better understand how it works. I had a hard time getting it out of the blue fabric carrying bag. It's tight! I finally had to cut (carefully!) a six inch cut in the bag's opening end to get the mattress to slide out freely. The bed has a few plastic tapes which act as wrapping straps. Cutting these sound almost like small gun shots. Crack!..Crack!..Crack! I just wanted to prepare you. The bed inflates as soon as you break the seal on the clear wrapping bag. When I cut away the clear plastic, I could smell a slight plastic-cloth smell. Not an industrial smell, but rather like freshly unwrapped Dacron-Polyester clothing items. You know the smell. Not too bad, a few hours later I could no longer smell it. My first impressions were that the bed is attractive, well-made, and with a soft white finish which looks and feels very appealing. The bed doesn't look at all cheap or plastic. It looks (and feels), like an expensive, quality mattress. My second impression is that the bed is durable and that it will last for years. Now, the most important point. Is it comfortable? Well, this is a subjective judgment of course, but I would say the bed is slightly more comfortable than the store-bought beds that I have seen in this price range, but still fairly firm. In short, if you want a bed that is "gushy soft" like a partially inflated air-mattress or a water-bed, then this will disappoint, but if you want a well made bed that is more comfortable than most semi-firm mattresses, then this might be OK. At five-foot ten and 260 pounds (too much ice-cream), my only complaint is that between my weight and the beds relative firmness, my hip gets slightly uncomfortable sleeping on my side. For someone less obese than myself, or for a back-sleeper this would not be an issue at all. All in all, I would buy this bed again. Like the many five-star ratings, that too, is a good sign. ... show more

  • Don't Hesitate.
Size: Full Style: 8" Reversible
This mattress (as I sit with my legs sprawled across it) inspired me to write my first online review in probably two years (I can get a bit lazy, hence the leg sprawling). I recently graduated from college; moving out of my parents' place and supporting myself and being a contributing member of society and other dumb stuff like that apparently come along with this. So, I moved to my own apartment, and for the first time in my life, had to purchase a bed. As a 22-year-old moving to Chicago to go to grad school with nearly no money, I was thinking cheap. But I had been told that "cheap" is a relative term when you're looking for mattresses; most of my friends had payed upwards of 400 bucks for a "cheap" box spring/mattress set. Thankfully, in a twist of fate, I went to Amazon and searched "mattress." Lo and behold, there's a 180-dolla (sorry folks, price has increased since I bought it) mattress, just sitting there, all like "Hey! Look at me! I'm a mattress! On Amazon.com! Yep! The same site you buy overpriced protein powder and used Stephen King books from!" Needless to say, I did a little research and found the catch I was looking for: it comes shrink-wrapped, rolled up in a duffel bag. "Ummm...yeah, no," I thought. But, just for fun, I went to YouTube and searched something along the lines of "video of unwrapping bed that comes wrapped in plastic that you have to cut open and it inflates itself." After watching a video or two, I was astonished to see that they really do magically turn into a soft-yet-firm, fluffy, plush, bouncy lil' mattress. With the added benefit of knowing I'd be able to watch it inflate before my very eyes, I ordered. After about a month and a half of sitting, sleeping, studying, reading, lounging, laughing, crying (I watched Titanic while laying on it, so sue me), and sulking because I have strep throat on this mattress, I decided it's only fair for me to write a review. Let me tell ya, folks: this mattress rules. I bought the cheapest bed frame from Walmart (which, may I add, is amazing), along with a bed skirt, mattress topper, and jersey sheets from Bed Bath and Beyond, and I swear this is the best bed I've ever slept on. It's soft and bouncy enough to remind you, "Hey! Look at me! I'm a real bed! With real springs! Go ahead, bounce on me!" but it's also firm enough to be like "Hey! Look at me! I provide support for the lower back you complain to all of your friends and family about all day long! I'm not like those lousy air mattresses! Go ahead, lay down and feel my support!" Also, don't listen to the people who complain that you "fall off the side." Yes, there is no wiring around the sides of the mattress, but I sit on the edge of my bed all the time and I wouldn't have ever noticed (I'm a 185 lb male -- yes I do cry from Titanic SO SUE ME). These complaints actually made me nervous about purchasing, but honestly, it's truly negligible. There literally isn't anything I can think of to complain about with this mattress. There were no smells, it's the right size, it supports the weight of two people, the springs don't make any noise, and, most importantly of all, I've had some amazing nights' sleep on this baby. I love sleep and I'm a snob for a comfy bed; I'd highly recommend this one. Disclaimer: Bed does not actually talk. ... show more

  • The Five Star Reviews Are Not an Exaggeration
Size: Queen Style: 8" Reversible
It's been about three months now, and I can safely say this mattress is definitely worth the money. This is a very firm mattress, and contrary to what you may have read, it is ready to sleep on the very night you get it. Mine expanded to full height almost instantly. Yes, there is a light "odor", but it is clean and pleasant. The smell lasted a couple of weeks in my case, but nothing offensive. I actually thought the aroma was a nice plus. Some reported that the queen size mattress was a few inches shorter in length. Mine was not. If anything, it has a slight overhang, so perhaps the manufacturer saw the complaints and rectified this already. My fitted sheets fit perfectly with a nice smooth finish. I'm actually a pretty heavy (>270lbs) guy, so sagging was a concern of mine. So far, there doesn't seem to be any. I have been flipping and turning it a little more often than recommended just as a precaution, but after three months, the mattress remains flat and lump-less. Opening the mattress is really exciting and fun. Yes, you have to use scissors to cut off the duffle bag. Don't bother trying to save it. Once you get the duffel off, you have to cut the tape to unroll it. Then you have to cut that inner bag and watch as it practically pops up like an exploding can of muffins! So is this as nice as those thousand dollar pillow top luxury mattresses? Of course not! But does it afford me a good night's sleep for a fifth of the cost? You betcha! Great mattress, great price, and fun to open. What more could you ask for? *UPDATE: I ordered this mattress on November 24, 2014, and today it is April 17, 2016. Guess what? My queen size mattress is still holding up! Keep in mind I'm a pretty big guy that weighs over 270 lbs. I continue to flip the mattress quite regularly, and while there is a small hint of wear in the spots where I lay, the mattress is still supporting my avoirdupois with a firm but comfortable repose. There are still no lumps and still no regrets! *YET ANOTHER UPDATE: So now it's June 22, 2017. I just thought I'd stop back in and let all of you know how the mattress is doing. Still no change to the number of stars. This mattress has been holding up very well for over 2½ years, and it looks great! While there are still no slumps or lumps, I have to admit that it's starting to feel a little less firm than it used to. I still flip and rotate it regularly, and I sleep on it every night. It's very comfortable. If you are on any kind of a budget and need a decent mattress, this is the one to get! I just hope they are still making them whenever mine finally wears out! *JUNE 23, 2020 UPDATE It has been over five and a half years now, and I still stand by my review. The mattress I bought from here has stood the test of time. I'm laying on the mattress as I type this. It might be a little softer than the day I installed it, but it is still comfortable. One thing I thought I'd mention: Early on, I bought a couple of waterproof "bamboo" mattress pads to protect it and wouldn't you know it, the mattress itself still looks like new. It has been over five years though, and the price has gone up. If they are still making them like the one I bought, you are still getting a bargain. Flip it regularly. If you keep it clean, dry, and on a firm support base, this mattress should serve you well for many years. ... show more

  • Solid Purchase, but beware delivery guys.
Size: Full Style: 8" Reversible
Hello fellow customers. These here mattresses are quite nice. I purchased three of these bad boys, 'cause I'm not rich, and have three kids, whom all needed new mattresses post haste, reasons for which are another tale, for another review. Yesterday, a disgruntled FedEx employee alerted my dogs to an alien presence just outside the front door to our domicile. I sprung from my desk to take whatever action necessary to subdue the would be intruder. Less like the special forces solider I was pretending to be and more like an idiot teen from a horror film, I flung the door wide open, and immediately took the stance of a man who'd watched too many Kung Fu movies. What lay before mine eyes, was a field of cardboard cube towers, emblazoned with the markings of a rival tribe. From behind the second cardboard cube tower, a small man peeked, and said exasperatedly, "There's one more." Once he'd dragged a third box to the doorway, I saluted, and threw the boxes inside with one hand, a show of strength, in case the blue shorted man had any ideas about capturing my home and family for himself. (have I mentioned I've watched too many movies?) After carrying one of the long boxes up the stairs, to it's literal resting place. I opened the box and saw what looked like a cheap memory foam topper, sealed inside a plastic sheath. My heart sunk, I was certain at this point, that I had been bamboozled, and played the fool once again by a giant mega-corp. Once out of it's cardboard tomb, I had to remove a sheath of plastic, which revealed a tightly sealed whitish mass about one inch thick. Another barrier betwixt me and my sleep. This doesn't bode well for my future nap. I begin to paw and tear at the final plastic cage. As soon as I penetrate it's smooth shell, the mass begins to expand, rapidly. It's growing faster than I can free it from the plastic. Fully formed, it smells like new carpet, and it's slightly warped on the ends, but I can already see it trying to correct itself. I instructed my middle son to throw open the windows to create a cross draft to battle the odd smell. I had each of my sons attend the mattress, and tell me if it was worse, the same, or better than their current mattresses, (which cost five hundo a piece, by the by). Each of my heirs claimed it to be better than their more expensive mattress cousins. I muttered a quiet "Success!" to myself, and threw a tiny fist pump, which resulted in smiles all around. The first night's sleep for my eldest was one of awakening, and enlightenment. He awoke from a comfortable slumber both refreshed, and aware, feeling ready to take on whatever High School could throw at him. So why 4 stars? 'Cause nothing is perfect. ... show more

  • 8" Signature Sleep Mattress Hybrid (Memory Foam & Springs Combo)
Size: Twin Style: 8" Reversible
Hi everyone, All I can say is WOW I'm just glad to have a nice bed to sleep on after 11+ years, it fits my old maple twin bunk bed frames too! :D Rated by K. travel: Comfort Rating: 9 of 10 Soft Rating: 8 of 10 Firm Rating: 7.5 of 10 Support Rating: 6.5 Overall: The bed is excellent for the price and quality wise earns four stars for it right there automatically and affordable pricing with Amazon Prime- gives us the final 5th star in the Amazon 5-star rating above here. I got this for 150 USD and was well worth it minus UPS's delay to ship the product on One Day Air which took way longer than it needed during the days between Christmas & New Years. Even in-spite of the shipping part of this experience it will retain a 5 star flawless rating... Thoughts: This bed is certainly firm yet softer than the firm core and spring support, so this bed will basically fit your needs- no tossing and turning through the night. I am one of the few in the world that can sleep with the lights on but as of late I have had a mouse issue that means I cannot shut my lights off in the bedroom for the time being, however I have slept noticeably better than I do on any coach or futon. The Mice in the house also oddly seem to have stayed away from this new bed while I aired it out for the 48 hour period (with one turn over in the middle) on a spring cage. Most reviewing buyers stated that 48 hours with nothing on the bed is the way to air it best, So I did that even though at 8 inches it was ready to go right then and there for me. Onto things that factor in for my use, I personally weigh about 148 pounds, 5' foot & 8.5" Inches and I am an adult of age 26 as of last August in 2014. This bed does meet what I need and its on a spring cage so it can air out far better, most reviewers tell you to place this on a "solid surface" but as long as you have a good enough solid surface to place this mattress-bed on this bed does work very well. My advice is to keep the bed light with sheets, pillows, and other accessories in order allow you to flip the bed over every 24 hours with ease if you do use a spring cage with your twin's frame to ensure longevity. You'll be naturally re-dressing and changing your sheets daily by that standard. Which isn't terrible and I was used to before when I had my last twin bed that had no springs and was mostly only batting. The old mattress was lost to a flood when I was living in the basement way back then about 12 years ago, so I had to take on the couch ever since. Finally I decided to get myself a mattress-bed worthy of sleeping on and I have effectively done that with this purchase. Also despite the fact I have to sleep with the lights on for the last two weeks with mice occasionally driving me crazy on a subconscious level, I have had excellent rest on this bed without bother from anyone- including mice but I will update when I can finally comment on getting full REM sleep with the lights off after a while. I plan on moving at the end of February so I will update before the 1st of March to note if I am getting full REM. As I will need to readjust to the lower lighting levels again... Q:] Do I recommended this mattress bed to another potential buying customer? A:] The answer to that is; YES! :) I hope this review was insightful, I wont be answering questions or reading/replying to comments in relation to this bed or post. I will be making a update later as promised though. Never fear ;) ... show more

  • I can easily say I've been on the quest to find the ...
Size: Queen Style: 8" Reversible
I have actually tried many mattresses on Amazon (I have moved several times in my life to New York, California, Pennsylvania, and Washington so I've needed to purchase new mattresses each time, and my (ex-)girlfriends have also ordered Amazon mattresses. I've also gifted memory foam mattresses to my family members). I can easily say I've been on the quest to find the perfect mattress. This one is by far the best one I've tried. If you prefer a stiff/firm supportive mattress (and have back pain), I really recommend this mattress!!! Here is my breakdown: Tuft & Needle (2/10): It feels like sleeping on the ground, firm but also lots of pressure points, surprisingly the worst I've tried even though I like their "message" as a company -- they really market the @#$! out of these. When it's warm, this mattress is really hot to sleep on, and you feel sweaty and uncomfortable. LUCID by LinenSpa (5/10): Soft, but too much sinking into -- I actually know a lot of people who really love these that prefer soft mattresses over firm mattresses. If you prefer soft mattresses, this is the one to get, even if it's a little spendier. Tempur Pedic Rhapsody (4/10): WAY overpriced, comparable to the 10x cheaper foam mattresses, way too soft, lots of pressure points. I actually did have a lot of back pain with this one, and I thought I could throw money at the problem by getting an esteemed name-brand mattress: Nope. Sleep Innovations Sure Temp (6/10): Still too soft, firmer and more comfortable than the others, but the temperature/humidity really affects the firmness of this one. Sometimes I liked how firm it was, and other times it was too soft. It also did get too hot to sleep on sometimes. Signature Sleep Contour: (9/10) Very good support, no pressure points, very firm. Signature Sleep Memory Foam: (5.5/10) A good balance between soft and firm, but lots of pressure points. It had that "slept on the couch last night" feeling of discomfort upon awakening. Costco Spring Mattress: (7/10) I've learned first hand from this mattress that in order to get a decent mattress, you need to have springs. No pressure points, but not as comfortable as foam. I've learned that mattress manufacturers are really hyping up foam mattresses because they are less expensive to manufacture and significantly cheaper to ship -- which means more profit per mattress sold for them. For a while even, the foam mattresses were sold at a premium under the moniker "memory foam," which makes it sound like you're getting something fancy, high-technology materials that are superior to springs (*ahem* Tempur Pedic -- foam is foam, you're getting the same stuff even if you pay 10x more -- it's like buying the base level Audi instead of the Volkswagen with the highest trim package, they are basically the same car, just different branding). This, of course, is just a deceptive name that allowed them to charge more for a cheaper product to manufacture. Some companies like T&N called them out on this by releasing foam mattresses that were priced more "honestly." Nonetheless, spring mattresses are actually superior for relieving pressure, as we know from freshman physics, springs absorb/dampen energy through so-called "restoring forces" -- remember Hooke's Law? Mattress companies HATE spring mattresses though and they will do everything in their power to hype up the "scientific processes" behind their totally superior "memory foam." Foam is good for a "soft" topper, but as a base to the whole mattress, you're just going to end up with a lot of pressure points because foam just isn't as "springy" as actual springs are (who would have guessed?). So yes, this really is as good as it gets, and the reason is that it is a hybrid coil/foam mattress (I guess you could retrofit a spring mattress into this by adding a foam topper, but you have to be careful which topper you choose because even the LUCID toppers are too soft and create problems as well as help). ... show more

  • Twin mattress measures 71.5 " NOT 75 inches
Size: Twin Style: 8" Reversible
UPDATE 2023: Since I'm unable to write separate reviews for this item I have to add my latest here. I've never had problems with these mattresses. They are comfortable and durable and fit the metal frames I've bought for them. HOWEVER, THE LATEST TWIN I ORDERED IS NOT 75 INCHES LONG AND MEASURES IN AT 71.5 INCHES WHICH LEAVES A HUGE GAP AT THE FOOT OF THE BED. The metal frame is 75 inches so I'm at a loss for WHY this twin mattress is missing inches. Obviously, I can't easily return it. The current mattress I've received is NOT as advertised. Also, on the tag sewn into the mattress it says "finished size - 74 by 38 inches." when the seller lists the sizing as 75 by 39. Whatever the case, my mattress is only 71.5 inches long, not 74 or 75 inches long. See my pictures. Disappointed! 2018 - We've bought another of these beds (Twin) and it's just arrived. This time it did not come with an outer soft carrier bag but rather just wrapped in the sturdy plastic and rolled up like a tight burrito, then stuffed into the cardboard box. Right now the mattress is sitting in the middle of my living room. It's a little bent and wrinkled but it's already expanded and it says to let it do it for 48 hours. The last one I bough, it looked fine almost right away, and so I hope this one does the same. Now here's how you get this thing out of the box:The box is about 4 feet long and heavy, so use good body mechanics when bringing it inside. Two people are better than one alone. But it was just me here today, and I managed it just fine. OK, so it arrived a day later, but I'm happy it's here and you've got to feel for the carrier who has to drag this thing out of their truck and onto your porch. They stood it upright which makes it MUCH easier to pivot through the door. Once inside, leave it upright and get a paper towel or old cloth and wipe the dirt and dust off the box. If you want to preserve the box for now, don't use a box cutter, use a kitchen knife and peel only ONE end of the box apart. It's strongly sealed so be careful and take your time in separating the end flap. It actually took me 10 minutes to get the end open. Alright, once you get the end open, lay it down on its side. You want to have enough room to do this part. Get on the floor,,, open-ended side, and you'll grasp the plastic around the mattress on that end, while you put your feet on both sides of the box opening, this way the whole thing just slides out easily. The mattress is surrounded by heavy duty plastic that's taped. Use scissors, not the knife to cut away the tape. As you do, suddenly the mattress will begin expanding on its own! After it expands all the way, go to end of mattress and cut open the rest of the plastic bag. You might want to preserve the bag in case you need to wrap the thing up and send it back. However, you will never get this bed back into the box. The plastic will have tears in it but you can always get the thing fully plastic wrapped if you were going to attempt a return. Cross your fingers that your bed won't have any probs and then enjoy the best night sleep you've had in ages. Of course give your bed a couple weeks for you to adjust to it and I promise you, it's the only bed you'll want to sleep on. We've bought 3 king size beds in about 8 years for thousands of dollars and they have all been awful. Most beds are no longer reversible and warranties are garbage in most cases. In time, we'll probably get rid of our current king and then buy 2 more of these pushed together and that will be that. No more spending thousands, being ripped off, dealing with delivery problems, dealing with mattresses that break down within months of buying. I'm crossing my fingers that this latest twin will be all I anticipate it to be and better! Previous Update: I still say this is absolutely one of the most comfortable beds I've ever had. It's been almost 3 years and this twin mattress is still going strong. It's both firm yet gives and is cushy enough; you don't feel like you are sleeping on a board but don't sink down when you sleep either. We also bought the metal spring frame that goes with it but decided to just go ahead and use the old twin boxspring we already had even though it was for an extra long twin. (wish they made these mattresses in extra long!!). WE just cover over the gap with the blanket. Works great, so if you have a good box spring already, you don't have to buy theirs unless you want to. I mostly sleep in it because our own king size bed is horrible. We are NOW seriously considering buying the King version of this because our own bed is tearing up our backs which is why I usually sleep in this bed alone. My concern is that since the Queen or King requires a larger expanse of materials that perhaps the quality will be compromised. Im seeing more negative reviews for this mattress in the larger sizes. But considering how expensive brand and store versions are, I might be willing to take a chance and see if the King will work - with our existing boxsprings. So far so good. We bought this mattress to add another bed in our guest room. We already had an extra long twin and put a small night stand between the two beds and it's now 'Lucy and Ricky' style! Very comfortable mattress. Delivered promptly, easy to assemble as you basically just get it out of the box and after taking off the wrap, allow it to expand to normal size. The only thing is we had to cut the mattress 'carrier' bag off the rolled up bed because it is in there so tight there was no other way to get it out. It's OK, we didn't need the bag anyway. This was a good purchase. ... show more
