It's not leather. It's not textured. It is very silky smooth type material. It is comfortable but no much of a rocker unless you make a platform to sit it on giving it more room to rock further. Worth it as it is well made to last. Much better than the Chinese made ones.

I purchased two of these from Ashley Furniture 10 years ago. To my surprise after being used extensively, they are fully functional and in rather nice condition for their age. I have two dogs plus human beings who use them, and they’ve stood the test of time. The only reason I purchased two new ones is that I’ll never find a better chair than these once they are no longer available. I put the two new ones in an unused bedroom until I’m ready to use them. I purchased this recliner in brown from Amazon to match my sofa, chair and ottoman that I purchased at the Ashley Furniture store. The color is slightly darker than the “cocoa” color of my living room set but the design matches exactly. It’s not as noticeable because it’s set against a wall by itself. It arrived quickly and the shipper provided an arrival time. I wish I had not purchased the extra charge for “delivery into the 1st entry” because the box was way too big to fit through a doorway. The box had to be opened in the garage and needed my son and myself to carry it inside and set up. The recliner was slightly less expensive at Amazon with free shipping. If I had ordered it from the Ashley furniture store, there would have been a 2 to 3 week wait and a $289 delivery charge so I’m very happy with this purchase. The recliner is very comfortable, the material is the same as my living room set, and the manual ring on the right side of the chair is easy to maneuver. ... show more

Extremely happy with this purchase. I am 6’7 and feel like I have plenty of room to stretch out when reclining. Had a few spills on the material already (we have a 1 year old) and the material has held up fine. Hope to get a lot of years out of this chair.
