An ideal product for homes with narrow stairwells
Size: Full Set name: 12"
I purchased this mattress on Amazon for a specific reason -- I have a very narrow stairwell in my home, leading from the main floor to the bedrooms. Traditional bedding just won't fit very well. The idea of a mattress that "comes in a box" was very appealing, and it definitely worked as advertised. But there are a couple of things purchasers should be aware of. Like many who live in vintage homes, I have a narrow staircase with a curving flight of stairs. This kind of staircase is not friendly to those of us who have newer, larger beds. They weren't making queen-size beds when this house was built in 1935, and you just can't get a queen box spring up the stairs. I had to toss mine. I just couldn't use it. And I got my old queen mattress up the stairs only by scrunching and twisting it. Now, the box-spring problem I was able to deal with, by buying a metal-frame box-spring you assemble yourself. You can carry the box upstairs and assemble it in the bedroom. I found those on Amazon. But when it came time for a full-size mattress for the guest room, I found myself thinking a mattress that comes in a box and expands upon opening would be much more sensible than a standard mattress. This particular mattress is priced about the same as a standard mattress, so no problem. Now, this mattress is absolutely fine. It expanded properly when I removed it from the box, and it is nice, solid and firm. It was strange to watch it take full shape in seconds when I removed the plastic outer wrap. What will those miracle boys dream up next? But I should make two observations. The first is that I made a mistake when ordering. This mattress is offered in two sizes, 9 inches thick and 12 inches thick. Nine inches is the standard mattress size. I ordered 12 inches, thinking it would be plusher, but when I finally got it seated on the bedframe I had to think I would have been better off with nine. The mattress is about 5-6 inches above the level of the footboard, and it doesn't look quite right. It also seems a bit too bulky for the small bedroom. But the way I look at it, this was my mistake -- and I can hardly see a way to return a mattress when it has already been taken out of the package and it has expanded to full size. I mean, it can't be resold to anyone else. I can live with it. The second thing worth knowing is just how heavy this mattress is -- probably twice as heavy as a standard mattress. In 12-inch size, the full mattress is 76 pounds. It is really a two-person job to get it up a steep staircase. The box has no handles and it is pretty unwieldy. During our current coronavirus shutdown I couldn't call anyone for help, and it took me a while to figure out how to push it up the stairs. Once in the room, the box was so heavy and the space in the room was so tight that I couldn't pull the mattress out, as the pictures on the box suggest. Indeed, the box doesn't open very easily -- the end flaps are glued solidly shut. I had to set the box atop the assembled box springs and then carve the box with a kitchen knife, and remove the cardboard around the mattress until I finally had it free. I could hear the mattress trying to expand when I removed it from the box -- wheezing noises, etc. But the expansion really took off when I began carefully undoing the plastic wrap. The box says it might take 48 hours to fully expand. Well, I would guess the mattress was fully expanded within one minute of the removal of the plastic wrap. Poof. No waiting involved. Anyway, the mattress is firm and comfortable, as good as any standard mattress, if not better. I wish I'd ordered the nine-inch version, but that's on me. This one will suit my purposes perfectly. But when it comes time to move, sometime not-very-soon, I hope, I am not looking forward to lugging that mattress down the stairs. ... show more

Great mattress we own 3!

I love this mattress! We literally own 3 of these for all of our kids. All bought within 5 years of each other. The mattress that is the oldest is still perfectly comfortable for our teenager. There are no dips in it and it has held up great! It is so easy to set up you just cut the plastic off and you can hear the air start to inflate the mattress. It doesn’t have any crazy chemical smells either which we love. I would highly recommend this as a great bed in a box and affordable mattress. ... show more

Great mattress for the price for the RV
Size: Queen Set name: 8"
I needed a bed and fast for an upcoming camping trip in the RV. I had a leak and threw away my old bed right before I was to leave on a trip. I wasn't sure what to do but Amazon was able to get this bed to me in like 3 or 4 days. The Fed Ex guy delivered it to my yard the day we were leaving and we carried it down to the camper and threw the box in to hit the road. I didn't know what to expect because I never had a bed that was this cheap before that came in such a small box. I wish that I was there for the unboxing... I was attending a function the night we got there and my fiance came running in a panic. He exclaimed that he thought that the bed almost tore the camper cabinets off the wall. It must have exploded into shape right when he cut the last cord on the packaging. I don't usually see him that animated but it was hilarious for him to be that worked up about anything. He said that the people outside the camper probably thought that he was shooting a gun off in the camper. He said that each spring made a really loud popping sound as it unrolled. The bed is definitely comfortable enough for the camper for the handful of times that I will get to sleep on it. I like that it is not as thick as some of the mattresses that we have in other places because I will likely be moving it around when I remodel the camper. You can definitely tell that there are springs in the bed when you are crawling across it on your knees but it has enough padding over them while you are sleeping to not notice. I feel like it is supportive and firm enough but not too hard to be uncomfortable. I previously had a tempurpedic style for a few years and I'm definitely back to preferring a spring-style mattress if I had the choice. Overall for the quickness of shipping and the cost, I would purchase it again. I think that if I drove to my local discount store (like thinking Big Lots?) to try to buy a bed, it would have definitely cost more than this one... and it wouldn't have been any more comfortable. ... show more

Amazing budget mattress
Size: King Set name: 12"
We bought this mattress when we moved into our house in December 2024 and upgraded to a king bed. I waited until now (July 2025) to leave a review so that we could give it a good amount of time and see if it held up. It does. We love this mattress. It’s the perfect firmness (not too soft, not too firm). We both sleep in various positions and it’s comfortable for all (back, side, stomach). We’ve experienced no sagging or anything so far. We don’t spend a ton of time hanging out in bed, mostly just sleeping so maybe it would be different if you spend a lot of time in your bed. It fits our bed frame pretty good, there’s a couple very small gaps. As I recall, when we got the mattress, it took a day or two to fully expand. There was no odor at all. I honestly don’t think you can beat the price - I think the mattress over delivers for the cost of it. We’ve been really happy with it. ... show more

2 years later- still so comfortable! Buy this!
Size: King Set name: 12"
2 years later and I STILL love this mattress. This beats out expensive mattresses I have that have cost 2k plus and have been terrible with wearing down and sagging. I read lots of reviews and so glad I went with this one. I’m a stomach sleeper and it’s given me zero issues. No sagging or dips, even 2 years later. ... show more

Very happy with this mattress!
Size: Full Set name: 12"
1st MONTH: Arrived quicker than expected. That's always nice! Unpacked and leaned against the wall, since instructions say to let breathe 24 - 48 hours. Reading reviews and a family member's experience with a new mattress, I immediately was focused on any bad smells. NONE. Didn't have ANY smell to it. After close to 60 hours (I wasn't in a hurry), I zipped the mattress protector on it and put it on my frame and added sheets. Couldn't wait to lie down and just feel it. Definitely notice the cushy top layer. But, it was soft and comfortable. It's a solid feel! I moved naturally to see how it felt. My only negative impression was that it's not as firm as I like. BUT - it's also not for me. This was bought for 2 under 10yr old children to use when they stay at my house. Anyway, I have it on a frame that doesn't have a box spring, but is supported by slats. I slept on it the first night and, again - felt that it's not as firm as my actual bed, but I slept well and woke up with no adverse feelings. I can't complain at all. Makes no noise when moving. It's thick enough. It's comfortable. Seems to be made VERY well! The girls spent the night the next 2 nights and the first night - well . . . they ended up in my bed and I ended up sleeping in this one. Again - fell right to sleep and woke up feeling fine. It's still a little cool at night, so no way to make a real impression about the cooling gel. The next night I made sure the girls stayed in the bed, and they're 7 & 8, so they don't care. They slept. It's still VERY early into the life span of this mattress, and truth be told, it probably won't get a lot of use on a regular basis since it's in the extra bedroom. But, I'm happy. It took me months to decide on a mattress. The "Design by Ashley" part was the draw. Ashley mattresses have great reviews. The price was the next draw - holy fatwallets, batman - mattresses are expensive anymore. Amazon customer reviews are the next draw. This one had less legitimate negative reviews than the others in the price range. At this point, if I needed another mattress, I'd look at the other options in the Signature Design by Ashley store. I'm happy with this purchase and would get a more firm model next time. ... show more

Was great for 5 months… then suddenly awful
Size: King Set name: 12"
Purchased in July of 2023, completely toast by May 2024. We got the mattress, set it up on a brand new Zinus steel box foundation and we let it breathe and rise for a while. It didn’t rise to 12 inches, but got to about 11 which was fine. There was no odor or anything like that. It was soft, but then firm once you were on it, which was exactly what we wanted. For the first couple months the mattress was nearly perfect. We slept great, it felt great, and we felt like we’d gotten a fantastic deal. We loved it - it was supportive and immediately helped my back pain. Then the foam near my head started going flat. The corners on the head side of the mattress started sinking and rounding off. We don’t even lay or sit on those areas, so that was baffling. And suddenly it was significantly less comfy, especially on the wife’s side. On my side, about a pillow of depth was lost where my pilllows go, so without a pillow my head was below my body.. So we rotated it in an attempt to keep my wife happy and maybe more comfortable and to get my head level. And within a week, the bed entirely collapsed at the feet, the end line of springs just rolled over and out. The wife is more miserable than before the new mattress and any comfort this bed had has been lost. I keep pushing the wonky springs end back into place to keep it looking normal, but this bed is DONE! It was such a promising start, but I would not recommend this mattress to anyone at any price. It’s just going to end up in a landfill. It lasted us about 2 months before problems arose, and those problems kept getting worse. Attempting a warranty claim, but not expecting much. UPDATE: Added video - checkout how the springs collapse with just a hand pushing on it. ... show more

Only buy the 2 thicker versions, the 8" isn't good
Size: Full Set name: 8"
I've moved a lot & have had to purchase 3 of these same mattresses in 5-yrs. The thicker mattresses are the best I've ever slept on, including a $1,500 mattress I once owned. Here's my breakdown: I bought the 12" first. Blissfully comfortable, but I'm a small girl & at 70-lbs (more than 1/2 my body weight) could barely get it inside my door, out of the box & into the bedroom, then on top of a frame... took 1-1/2 hrs. I also couldn't easily turn the mattress with use... took 20-min for me to do it alone. For that reason alone, I next bought... ... the 10" version. Same as above with comfort, but at 60-65 lbs, same thing. Hard for me to set up & move around without back strain. Then, I got this 8" version, mainly as it was cheaper & I know I'll be leaving it behind again next year. I hate it. I like a supportive mattress with not much give, but love pillow/soft tops, like these mattresses, for that reason... firm underneath, soft support on top. This mattress is about 50-lbs, so easier to move, although it is a bit flimsy & catches on the carpeting & begins to fold in half... it's a pain in the ah... soul... to move around alone. It's mid-level to soft, so if that's what you like, you'll love it. As an example, you could fold this mattress & tie it up if moving... with 2, you'd be able to roll it & tie down. With the 10-12" mattresses, that's not possible. Additionally, it is not comfortable at all to use the bed to sit up & watch movies or work on the computer, as it's too soft to support the lumbar area of the back & I get back pain quickly... I did not have that problem with either the 10 or 12". So, if you need this for a kid, guest room or someone who likes a softer mattress (my senior mom would love it), it's great. I can't imagine 2 people could sleep on this comfortably for any length of time, unless they're house guests because there'd be too much give. Can't wait to leave this behind... my heart usually breaks when I have to discard a brand new mattress... but, I'll bet I could roll this one up & haul it to the trash chute with a dolly on my own. I'd say skip it, if it will be your nightly bed. 3* out of 5, cuz it's still a good product... but, I really give it a 1*. I'd continue to buy this brand cuz it's great, but never a thinner mattress. ... show more
