This is one of the sharpest lenses made, with beautiful bokeh and negligible color or geometric defects. In combination with a high megapixel camera, it's an ideal portrait lens. You can take head and torso portraits and then, if you wish, crop to a tight head shot. The definition is there, as though you had taken the shot with a 85mm lens. What a wonderful lens. I find it as sharp and in some cases sharper than the Sony 55mm. I like the AF better and it seems more solidly built. Of course a lot newer than the 55.
