  • Best portrait lens I've ever used
This is an absolute beast of a lens - on my 5D mk IV the combination is almost 8 lbs. But it's worth every ounce. It's displaced my Canon 135 f/2L as my go-to portrait lens. Focus is dead on accurate with no microadjustments needed. Which is good, because at headshot distances your depth of field is less than an inch. Careful attention to your focus points is a must with a lens like this. Critical focus is tack-sharp and bokeh is as smooth as butter, which you would expect from a lens that calls itself the "Bokeh Master". There is noticeable vignetting wide open, but that is easily correctable if needed. Distortion is basically non-existent. If you're a serious portrait photographer, you need this lens. ... show more

  • AMAZING LENS
When I first received this, the first thing i noticed was how huge and heavy this was This thing is no joke. I took the hood and tripod mount off just to try and make it weigh a bit less. Once you get use to carrying it around though, wow! The bokeh on this thing is SO creamy. The colors are vibrant and it is SHARP! This is a keeper for portrait photography. I wouldn't lug it around for weddings or travel however due to its size. ... show more

  • Stunning Lens Stunning Lens
Stunning lens. Super sharp at the focus point but quickly blurs into a smooth watercolor like bokeh. See example images. Really a great portrait lens.

  • This is a great portrait lens
This lens was a hidden gem. I had had interest in this and was waiting to see if it would be offered in Canon RF mounting. Maybe one day but I really wanted to see how it would do from all reviews I had read. I purchased the EF canon mount and put it on a 5D mk4 thinking I could mount it canon mirrorless with adaptor later on. Well I have been so impressed with results in pet photography portraits on the 5D that I may just keep it that way! I know this lens will work on my R5, but shall continue on the 5D. I shoot mostly off hand and will admit this is a “beast” combo to hold all day, but results are excellent even though there is no stabilization! Having f/1.4 allows me to run faster shutter and thus eliminates some camera shake. Auto focus to very fast and responsive, focus is correct out of the box, thus no adjustment using the Dock were made.I really love this lens and wish I had purchased much earlier. Since DSLR cameras are not the primary marketing nitch at the moment Sigma may put its efforts to mirrorless mounts. Still I recommend this lens to Canon EF or RF shooters. ... show more

  • Tack Sharp! Tack Sharp!
Love love love! By far this is my favorite portrait lens thus far. It’s tack sharp and the bokeh is creamier than fresh churned butter.

  • Heavy but worth it.
Big, heavy and a little dorky lookin but man oh man does it make for some beautiful and sharp photos at 1.4.

  • Beautiful lens but isn’t communicating with my camera body well.
I love the quality of images it produces when it actually communicates with my camera body. I have to pop out my battery and put it back in or detach the lens and reattach it to get it to work sometimes. Some days it’s fine for a while. And other days it’s like every 5 minutes doing this. I’m a portrait photographer and it’s not proving to be very reliable. Really sad since it’s a pricey lens. Might be returning it. ... show more
