  • Love this lens!
Style: Canon Set: US Version
First, I am not a pro photographer, more like a serious hobbyist. Retired, so don't have the need or funds to shell out thousands for lenses. This lens came on time and was well packaged. Looked like original box and included both caps. Second, maybe call it ego, but I normally buy used, renewed, older quality glass that seems to hold it's value. This lens cost me about $425. Seriously pleased with the cost. I took a chance because the buyer said it had a scratch on the lens but wouldn't affect the sharpness. Thrilled. I found no flaws in my photos and I did zoom in a lot to look. The lens is a beast. Shockingly heavy for it's size. But I do mostly astro stuff on a tripod, so weight is not an issue. Also don't travel or hike far to carry equipment. Haven't done astro with it yet but on the normal few shots I have done, the colors are accurate and quite pleasing compared to others I own. Wow! Sharp. Autofocus is quick, accurate, and relatively quiet. It is a prime lens but they're my preference anyway. Can't wait to try it out on a Milky Way Pano! ... show more

  • It's SIGMA Art for landscapes or astro. Absolutely incredible.
Style: Canon Set: US Version
It's SIGMA ART.. you literally cannot go wrong. I bought this to shoot astro. It does this very well, so long as you get the focus right (manually focus ASTRO). I initially shot on a Ti3, then a 6D Mark II. Took it to AK and shot the lights. Flawless. Some online report autofocus problems, so I bought the lens dock to adjust the AF. I did not need it. Shot perfectly out of the box. LOVE sigma. It's heavy (you know this), the image quality is just as good as Canon L (better in some cases), and is cheaper. DO IT. ... show more

  • Fantastic Low Light Portraits!
Style: Nikon Set: US Version
I bought this lens mainly for the focal length and 1.4 aperture, but the optical quality ended up really surprising me. It's extremely sharp even wide open. Sure the edges lose some of that sharpness, but it's hardly noticeable unless you're pixel deep diving. Stop it down a bit and it might just be the sharpest lens I've ever used, really damn good stuff. And the depth of field is so silky smooth, I absolutely love the dreamy watercolor like backgrounds this lens can provide. Auto focus in low light can be a bit of a letdown (sometimes), but it's easily worked around once you get a feel for what the lens needs. I've been hearing some people have had issues with focus calibration, but luckily mine was perfect out of the box. It's a very large and heavy bit of glass, not to the extent that it's uncomfortable to hold, but it definitely has a significant presence in the hands. The fast aperture and wide focal length make this an ideal choice for low light street photography. I'm loving the shots I can get just using the beautiful neon signs, warm street lamps, and the triple color threat of a changing traffic signal. The Sigma 24mm 1.4 has been my go to lens for everything of late, it's great for portraiture, product photography, landscape. If it's in your budget, and you don't already have a fast wide, I wholeheartedly recommend you add this to your camera bag. ... show more

  • Amazing lens after USB dock firmware update and minor calibration
Style: Canon Set: US Version
This is a fantastic lens. All of the Sigma Art series lenses have been fantastic. I now own the 24mm, 35mm, and 50 mm. I currently have the Tamron 85 1.8 that is going to get switched with the Sigma 85 1.4. That's how much I've enjoyed my others. Fair warning, though, you will need the USB Dock to update the firmware on all of these. I had MAJOR focus issues with all three prior to updating the firmware. After I updated, I only needed to make very minor in camera calibrations (+/- 3) to get these things absolutely tack sharp. These adjustments were so minor I opted to make them via my 5D IV in camera calibrations by lens instead of the USB dock. It was just easier that way. After updating the firmware these things get the focus bang on at a way higher percentage than the majority of the Canon L glass I have owned and do own (at comparable apertures). Being someone that can afford all Canon L glass if I wanted, I would still buy these over the Canon versions. The only thing that would sway me would be if I required weather sealing, and I don't. If weather sealing isn't an issue for you, and you make sure you get the USB dock to update/calibrate the lens, this thing is a no brainer. ... show more
