When you pay this amount for a piece of machinist equipment, you expect to get junk. This thing does not disappoint. Pros: Rotary seems decent and reasonably smooth. Cons: The face of the chuck is not perpendicular to the base when the chuck is vertical. I needed to shim the base to get it close. Why close? The face of the chuck moves all over the place as you rotate the chuck, or run back and forth across it. Why it's not perfectly flat is beyond me. Kind of a guessing game getting it parallel to the mill table. I cannot confirm or deny that the chuck is centered about the axis of rotation. It's not perfect, but it does not jump out at me, yet. I also needed to spend 45 minutes removing chips and breaking every sharp edge. Does the manufacturer not own a file? I may eventually throw it on a surface grinder to try to square things up. Still working on that plan. Overall, if you are doing work with a lot of tolerance and are on a budget, go for it. But if you want to hold any sort of tolerance, look for something better. ... show more

Unit is very well built. Most every part on the indexing unit has been ground. The price of this unit is much less than the same item sold by others. A very tight piece of machinery. I'm not in the least disappointed with the purchase of this indexing head. I have turned this indexing unit into an electronic indexing head with the addition of a stepper motor and an electronic controller. I have no need for the indexing plates to achieve extremely accurate indexing. I would most definitely buy this unit again. ... show more

Build quality is great except for the spring handle. It’s supposed to slide in and out when you rotate around the plate, and it sticks a bit. Otherwise this has been a useful tool for me. I’ve already made some gears with it and find it to be quite good. Naturally there is some backlash in the rotation—basically you have to enter the holes from the direction you’re turning and not back into them. This is normal for all indexing setups though. The instructions don’t describe how to use this well. Check online for explanations and especially google for a “index plate hole calculator” which makes the math super easy. (For this item the reduction ratio is 40:1) ... show more

The media could not be loaded. After getting out half a dozen hex keys (!) and a spanner, and adjusting everything that can be adjusted to the point of resistance there is still half a degree of slop in the worm drive.
