This great little machine sports some of the same features found on much larger mill/drills: Dovetail column, variable speed 3/4 HP motor, R8 spindle with digital read out, tapered gibs with double locks, and large 5-1/2" X 19-11/16" Table. This is an excellent value and great for just starting out or even as a dedicated, single-purpose machine in the shop! Purchase the optional D4780 stand for the ultimate mill/drill package.

  • Good Machine for Part-Time Use or Hobbyist
3- stars because this isn't good for daily professional shop use. And the price/quality ratio is skewed. I purchased this machine for our shop primarily for drilling small holes (less than 0.065" dia) in aluminum parts. All of the machines in our shop were built pre-1960 and this machine instantly reminded me why. This machine won't survive being used 8 hours a day 5 days a week. But we sort of expected this when deciding to go this route versus a different machine. So if you have a clean shop, lab, garage etc and you're not doing production work then this could be a great machine for you. The z-axis handle is inconveniently tucked behind the head. Not much room to rotate the handle when the head is down and you have big hands. There's only one x-axis handle for the bed. It's on the right side. This is a huge inconvenience when you're already using your right hand for the quill handle and you're trying to align a setup. Shipping damaged the stand. Dents in the cabinet. The stand height is really low if you happen the be taller than 6'. ... show more
