I dont know what the people who rated this low are talking about. I'm going to chalk it up to one of two things: either they unfortunately got a lemon, or it's operator error and they are not using it correctly. First of all, it says it can handle 1500sq ft, but realistically it's about half that. And that is what you should keep in mind for ALL dehumidifiers except for those name brand, cost you your whole paycheck ones. Those DO work for the space they say. Keep that in mind and you won't be disappointed. Anyway, I have it set up in my bedroom, where I get a lot of condensation on the windows and it starts to cause problems with mold and mildew. I turned this baby on, set the fan to High, set the unit to run continuously ( the manual says to do so for the first day upon initial use), set the desired RH to 60% and let it go. Within 7 hours, the humidity had gone down to 61% ( and you could totally tell the difference in the air feel) and the reservoir was FULL, the unit shut off and indicated that it needs to be emptied. Emptied it, it kicked back on, I went to bed, woke up, and it was full again! And......and......not a DROP of condensation on my bedroom windows!! And like I said, you could feel it in the air, it was noticeablely drier and more comfortable and fresh. This dehumidifier works like a beast!! Quality overall is excellent. The unit isn't that large, you can see that in the product dimensions, but man is it heavy! It just feels solid and very well made. It also is SUPER easy to use and could even be figured out if you didn't have a manual! Just a word of advice though, if you set up the automatic drain hose people, you need to have whatever your draining it into LOWER than the drain port on the unit, because after all, it relies on gravity to drain, not a pump, and last time I checked, correct me if I'm wrong, gravity pulls things down, not push them up!! Great unit and I will actually be buying a second unit to use for my other bedroom! ... show more

I needed a powerful dehumidifier. This is it! I bought a stainless steel garden house and this thing pumps a lot of water out of the air. I'm not sure about the people that had trouble hooking a garden hose up to for drainage, ha. I have a big house so I just leave this unit on continuous mode. The air filter is very easy to access and I actually prefer the way it is set up over any other dehumidifier I've used. My only complaint is the noise. It's not really loud and is a bit quieter on low. With a unit this powerful it wouldn't be possibly to get anything quieter at this price point. ... show more

Have a very large basement in a high humidity location. Existing GE dehumidifier worked but only brought the humidity to 60%, so obviously not working to optimum performance. I installed the Shinco 7,000 SF Energy Star Dehumidifier with Pump 28 days ago and as you can see am I can get the humidity down to 40%. The pump works great. So why not 5 stars? 2 reasons. The humidistat is not very precise, but then again neither is the humidity. I have it set for 40% and as you can see running full time at highest fan, I can get to almost 40%. Since I am running full time I purchased the ASURION 4 Year Housewares Protection Plan ($200 - $249.99). Not sure the Shinco 7,000 will last 4 years. While I needed to buy a longer silicone tubing for pumping, (5mm) kudos for Shinco for providing in the manual the inside diameter of the tubing so I could purchase my length (20 feet). The other reason for no fifth start is the somewhat misleading advertising that it removes 150 pints under 95°F, 90% relative humidity (RH) condition. That may be true but the typical measurement standard recommended by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers uses conditions of 80°F and 60% RH to measure capacity. However, hard to argue when they are selling the capacity at saturation, which represents the maximum moisture removal capacity, which is measured under more extreme conditions, such as 95°F and 90% RH. This gives an idea of the dehumidifier’s performance in very humid and warm environments, but it’s less practical for everyday use since most indoor environments rarely reach such extreme levels. It is not false advertising, it just makes it difficult to do comparison shopping when most (if not all) of the other manufactures use the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers condition of 80°F and 60% RH. AI tells me that if your dehumidifier removes 150 pints per day at 95°F and 90% RH, it would likely remove around 75-90 pints per day at 80°F and 60% RH. Pretty big difference. 4.5 stars is very good but just not meeting all of my expectations. But very close. ... show more

As an older homeowner I have used and owned many dehumidifiers. All worked with some degree of satisfaction. But none have worked as well as this Shinco. Now, yes of course I've only had it a few months, but unless it craps out early, it will be the most effective dehumidifier I have owned. Note: 1. Inexpensive to buy, 2. Quiet in operation, 3. Reduces humidity quickly, 4. And for me, so important, removes collected water without a pump, easily and thoroughly. Burning out electrical pumps on units has been a past problem. It's real simple, unless it fails early, I HIGHLY recommend this unit. It was cost effective to buy and works very well. ... show more
