Description

Shimano's Thunnus CI4 Spinning Reel is seemingly against the laws of nature, lightweight with the power to stop big fish are not words commonly found together in a sentence. Thunnus CI4 takes a page from Shimano's bicycle division and uses carbon materials in high-impact situations in response to anglers wanting a reel with bait-running functionality but in a lightweight body. Thunnus CI4 is up to 7 ounces lighter than its predecessor without sacrificing any power and incorporates new drag systems for the main drag as well as the baitrunner drag. Thunnus CI4 is the most efficient live bait spinning reel on the market with unmatched adjustability for fishing live bait in any condition while still having the smooth stopping power.

Size: Gear Ratio: 4.4:1 | Size: 12000
I ordered the 12000 that way I can drop rigged ballyhoo back while trolling cause I don’t like conventional reels offshore. It said it can take 500 yards of 50”lb test. I only think I got 400yards on the spool. I bought a 500 yards spool. Didn’t take it all. Not even close. I wanted something with more capacity in case I hook a something bigger than 200+ lbs ... show more

This is the 'baby' Thunnus. I bought it because it is reasonably lightweight yet gives me good line capacity. I use it with a medium weight 7-foot Cabela Saltstriker rod for stripers and blues in Long Island Sound. I've spooled it with 30-lb braid and fish with a 5-foot fluorocarbon 25-lb-test leader. It's got an exceptionally smooth drag and the oversized handle makes for an easy retrieve. It won't wear you out after a long day of casting. I like the combo because it's extremely sensitive; I have lots of fun fighting fish in the 2 to 12 lb category but it gives me confidence that I can handle something much bigger. The bait-running feature is interesting but I haven't had a chance to give it a fair test yet since 95 pc of my fishing is with artificials. ... show more

  • Well packaged smooth winding, and with adjustable winding profiles for different types of line.
Size: Gear Ratio: 4.8:1 | Size: 6000
‘The reel arrived with the box wrapped in bubble wrap so very well protected for shipping. The reel is balanced and reasonably lightweight. It’s on a Penn Carnage II 10’ and spooled with 50# braid. Using 2 ounces of weight practice casting I averaged 260 feet with out any issues. i will be put to the test in early May in the Florida panhandle waters so more to come. ... show more

  • Reel locked up.
Size: Gear Ratio: 4.8:1 | Size: 6000
After receiving the reel. I noticed the gear train was gritty. Thinking it because it was new. I spun the reel for a few minutes. The gritty feeling became a skip in the gear teeth. Spinning it a little more and the reel locks up tight. This isn't the only Shimano spinning reel I have. This reel showed up in what looked like a previously opened box. With a vibe that it had been a return and sold again. With the seller having to asked when the refund was going to occur after 7 days had passed. From the received date of the reverse tracking. Never again with the store that sold it to me. ... show more

Ferrari of baitrunners in my opinion , own 3 and by far the best of all I've tried . Simple fresh water rinse after saltwater / sand exposure and greasing up every year which shimano offers free is unbeatable . This reel goes well on any rod 10 feet or larger and is incredibly light for all that it offers . ... show more
