Features

  • CoreSolid Body (Magnesium): Integrates the B-Side Plate, levelwind guard and frame into a solid one-piece construction. This delivers an unprecedented feeling of rigidity and sensitivity, and is the first design of this type in a low-profile baitcast reel.
  • HAGANE Body: The HAGANE Body is a metal reel body with high rigidity. The body rigidity and impact resistance virtually eliminates body flexing. The result transforms the angler's actions directly into cranking power. It's efficiency through strength.
  • MicroModule Gear: The MicroModule system creates a smooth retrieve. The new gear set makes use of smaller teeth and more of them. This means that there are more contact points between the drive gear and pinion gear. The result is a more efficient gear train with less gear feel.
  • X-Ship: Provides improved gear durability. By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear maintains precise alignment with the drive gear. This means the gears will stay in the same position under the heaviest loads. The added benefit is that friction between the spool shaft and gear are eliminated. This will enhance the casting performance of the reel with lighter lures, and allow for longer casts.
  • MGL Spool III: An ultra-thin spool that thoroughly pursues low inertia. The spool has a reduction in inertia by about 15% compared to the second-generation MGL Spool by using a narrow shape with a width of 19 mm for the outer diameter of 34 mm. Resulting in unparalleled casting performance.

Description

Thanks to Shimano's signature technologies and unwavering commitment to innovation, the Shimano Chronarch MGL Baitcasting Reel delivers dependable top-grade performance cast after cast. This high-performance low profile baitcaster has a 9-bearing drag system (8BB + 1RB) with a maximum of 11 lbs of drag. It boasts the Magnumlite Spool to lower the moment of inertia and to improve the casting distance by up to 15%. Featuring a Hagane body for strong performance without tilting and any warping despite a lightweight body, it is fortified with Shimano's newest set of reel technology: the MicroModule Gearing to ensure smooth, frictionless gyration, X-Ship technology for more smoothness and durability, and the SVS Infinity braking system for fine- tuning. The Shimano Chronarch MGL Baitcasting Reel is available in 6.2:1, 7.1:1, and 8.1:1 gear ratios in both Right and Left Hand retrieve. Note: due to the magnesium alloy found in the Magnumlite spool, Shimano does not recommend this reel for saltwater applications.

  • Top notch
Style: Gear Ratio: 6.2:1 | Size: 150 Right
Really an amazing reel. Good size. I actually used it with 50 pound braid to haul in frogs and weeded bass and it worked for that. It’s now at home on a jerk bait rod. Wonderful reel easy skipping casting everything you need.

Lightweight. Can cast far even with light lures. You get what you pay for in quality. Most of my Shimano reels have lasted decades.

  • Bad a$$
Best reel ive had in my hands. Its construction improves sensitivity. Its light, its Shimano tough, easy to dial in and enough drag to get the job done. I pair it on 7'2 med/hvy (2020) zodias and its my favorite set up. Has good line capacity. Nothing bad you could say about this one. I didn't read any bad "real" reviews before my purchase and now i see why ... show more

Smooth as silk retrieve. Rock solid breaks. That’s all I ask from a reel. I’ll tell you how it lasts in about 10 years.

  • Side plate would not open per instructions.
Style: Ratio: 7.1:1, Left Hand
The box had been opened previously as the lid tape had been cut. The reel was outside the bubble wrap which was torn open. The reel looked fine so I loaded 12 pound line and then started to adjust the settings. However, I could not open the side gate per the instructions. The little switch for opening worked okay but the side gate just would not budge. I had to return the unit as defective. Now I know why someone else had already returned it. This seller did not check the unit. ... show more

  • Another great Shimano product
Buttery smooth drag, casts a mile, would give it a 5 but the finish isn’t that durable
