Shimano produces high-quality, innovative products. My Shimano reels have lasted for decades with regular maintenance. I have used the Shimano Calcutta in saltwater with excellent results. However, the Shimano Tranx has become my new favorite saltwater reel. I bought two in 2019 for $200 each, and they are still performing well. The Tranx is a low-profile casting reel featuring a smooth retrieve and a reliable drag system. One is paired with a seven-foot medium-action Okuma Reflexions rod. The other is paired with a seven-foot medium-heavy St. Croix Mojo Inshore rod. We fish for speckled trout, redfish, flounder, bass, and more. Smooth and strong but gears stripped after 2 years of light saltwater use. I’ve use Shimano for years and never had any problems. Hopefully it just a bad apple in the bunch. Will send unit to Shimano for repairs.
