When it first arrived I thought it was a bit on the small side for a 3000, but it spooled up a fair bit of 20lb braid and after bringing it out for a test run, I managed to hook onto so very decent fish off the rocks and was surprised at how easily it handled the pressure from the Jacks, Mackies and Needlefish! The drag sound, for a reel this size is loud, rivalling my Penn Pursuit 4 and it held its own against formidable fish on the day. Great reel at the price point I got it for ($20), decent drag, holds a fair bit of braided line and can hold its own in a battle with notoriously energetic fish species in saltwater. ... show more

They seem to be okay and made well. They are cheaper reels not like the upper end stuff butt does the job. I've always liked Shimano components. I removed one star because these things aren't even greased though which I think would be a gimme when you buy a reel. But I'll see how they work in the long run. ... show more

Purchased fo the sole purpose of using on my ice fishing rods. Nice smooth drag. Light weight and balanced. Won't break the bank, or if you just don't fish a lot, or want to introduce a spinning reel for those advancing from spin cast.

Other than the questionable package when delivered, this is a great budget fishing reel that feels nice on the hands, looks great, and is very silky smooth. Also note that the body of it is made by plastic, but it is durable. Definitely recommended 👍
