  • Yeah, It Actually Works!
There are 2 photos that I added; they both show a corner of my backyard after dark. 1 photo was taken with my phone simply looking toward the back fence and the other, I took with my phone as well, but it is looking at the viewscreen of the night vision monocular. I did it this way so that you could see what it actually looks like to from point of view. The image on the viewscreen is much better than the photo shows but on the other hand it isn't great either. The refresh rate isn't fantastic but it is good enough. The built-in IR light is super bright and tends to wash out the picture if you are close to any reflective surface; and I am talking about the flat side of a shed/house/barn or any vertical, flat light-color painted surface. When looking into the woods or a field it certainly does a good job of illuminating out to, maybe about 75 yards or a little less. It even comes with a rechargeable battery pack! All this praise is because you get a digital night vision device that actually works and can give you a basic introduction to night vision. You can take photos with it and video as well but there is no microphone so there is no sound being recorded. Still, this is a great deal for the price. It is very lightweight; so much so that it feels cheap and the plastic housing looks & feels cheap, because it is... and that is okay, this little monocular is not trying to be something that it is not. What it is, is a handy little tool that will get you through the woods at 5am to your deer stand or blind. When your camping and hear noises out in the woods at night, you look out and see what's what, or you can inspect the perimeter of your home to see what may be out in the back yard in the middle of the night, and most importantly, you can do all this without dropping $100-$500 on an 'inexpensive' night vision device or $500 up to $3,000 for better quality device that you will never use enough to justify the expense. Plus, if I drop or otherwise break this thing, I will not be crying about the loss of several hundred dollars! ... show more

  • Not horrible
Got this as my first night vision device and I'm not totally disappointed, but not overly impressed. It is a 1080p device as advertised, not a big deal, but what you need to do is make sure that you're holding it very, very still when taking pictures after dark. The IR LED appears to fill the field of view with appropriate light when viewing on the screen but when you grab a photo the "shutter speed" appears to be slower than it actually is. A lot of my IR illuminated pictures were very blurry regardless of the zoom level. The 10X zoom setting is nice and works well during the day. When using the live view window at night it washes out my night vision and it takes me a few seconds to go from looking at the screen to looking at my surroundings or through a scope. An adjustment of screen brightness would be great, but I couldn't seem to find one. I'm also less than impressed that every time I turn it on it starts up in video mode. Some people may be ok with this, but for me this is a big no no, I want it to come back on in the mode that I shut it off in. Fair purchase if you're not expecting much, and have the time to wait for your night vision to adjust from the screen to your non-night vision scope, or viewing ability. Would make a nice gift for someone who's new to night viewers (first personal purchase, but not first exposure) or a hobbyist who's not looking for a lot. This is not what I would pair with a hunting rifle ... show more

  • Average IR monocular device
The monocular device worked as advertised. All the included features appeared to function properly and I was surprised how well it worked in the dark. I tested in my backyard, in a dimly lit subdivision which I have a forest on one property boundary about 30-40 yards away. Once focused and adjustments were made, I could distinctly see the different trees and structures with fairly good clarity for a $40 infra-red device. The display screen was small and the brightness settings made things challenging. It was hard to balance the right distance from your eye without killing your night vision in your other eye. The focal ring required your hand to block the IR illuminator so the display went dark while you tried to adjust the focus. The device overall felt like it was built with cheaper plastic components and its durability is questionable. I wouldn't depend on this device working in emergency situations. ... show more

  • It Works A Lot Better Than Described and What I Thought it Would
So, I thought this was going to be another bust in my attempt to get a low-priced infrared camera to take hunting with me, but I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by what I have experienced so far. The description on the site states, "it has a visual range of approximately 656ft in daylight and 98ft in complete darkness, please consider this before purchasing". Well, I have to say that I think that is selling this product short because 98 feet is 32.67 yards, and when I took this out to test it at night, I was able to pick up an old shed using the IR and that was at approximately 60 yards from where I was standing and there was no heat signatures in the shed, however, it illuminated the whole shed when it was pitch black outside with no lights. I took this out hunting one morning and I was able to get some deer in view at about 40 yards in the dark, so again it surpassed its own rating limitations. Now, granted the screen is small for viewing so if you are expecting to count a 1-inch point on a buck at 40-50 yards, it is probably not going to happen, so you need to be realistic with your expectations. However, if you want to see a buck in the dark and determine whether it is going to be legal once the sun rises, than this will work just fine. I am also hoping to use this in January and February when the coyote activity ramps up on my property. Overall, I am more than satisfied with this product due to it exceeding the description and my expectations for the price paid. I would highly recommend this product for an entry level night vision camera and spotter. ... show more
