  • So thrilled Sharp still makes their combination microwave/convection oven
I’ve been a fan of the combo oven for decades, and actually use it both ways. It’s so roomy, I haven’t used the gas oven in my house since I’ve lived here. A toaster oven is great for small, bread stuff like leftover pizza or baking a fish filet, but the whole pizza and Thanksgiving dressing fit and cook in the convection oven. The newer version is updated some, and easy to clean, too. ... show more

  • Remains to be seen
I don't know why it is always so hard to find a black combination microwave and convection oven, but the choices are always very limited and the ratings are not great. Our last one was the predecessor of this one -- 1.5 cu.ft. and 900W. I would have liked a larger one with more power. The really big, powerful ones were the kind that go in range hoods over cook tops. I only found one other brand which had more size and power, but it also cost like 50%+ more and my Vice President of Finance (aka: "wife") decided to stay with this model, even though our last one blew up after 4 years. Oddly enough, it is more powerful than the old one which had the same 900W rating. We've had to adjust our cooking times down about 5-10%. Reference point: cooking a snack-size popcorn bag (1) takes 2:34 - easy to remember. It seems to me that it makes a harsh grind-y sound when it's cooking. Guess we'll see how long it lasts. Edit -- One year later (9/26/2019) The door's push-pad doesn't work well after using the convection function. Apparently the extended heat is doing something to it since it works fine when just microwaving. It's kind of scary when the food in the hot oven is done and the door won't open. The worse part is that a company we had used in the past to repair an older version of this microwave refuses to work on anything from Sharp anymore. The only other repair outfit we could find in our area of the state charges $100 just to come out and look at it. If they spend 2 minutes looking at it and say it can't be fixed, we're just out $100. If it can be fixed, then the parts and labor are on top of the $100. Too bad nobody else seems to make a comparable (and black) convection-microwave. ... show more

  • Door doesn’t open when it hot - it has to cool off before you can take your food out!!!
The button to open the door sticks so you have to push it multiple times and pull on the door to open it. I wish it had a + 30 second feature instead of the +60. But after broiling chicken the door doesn’t open at all. I’m told it’s a safety feature and I just have to wait 5-10 minutes for it to cool down. Since it’s not a defect I can’t get my money back. This feature should be in the literature before you buy it. I never would have bought this had I known. So while the unit cools down so does the food inside! And that’s on purpose!! ... show more

  • These last a very long time
I did not think I would be able to replace my previous MCO (Microwave Convection Oven) but I was. Sharp still makes a similar (if not identical) item to the one I purchased 23 years ago. Some feel the microwave power low (930 watts) and that may be true. My primary uses are the combined microwave/convection modes and convection only. The dimenisions and weight are as they were before and to me the maintained weight indicates there has been no reduction in the quality of the components. The sensor cook menu is extensive and the sensor cooking is very accurate. It is equipped with a carousel which precludes a temperature probe feature and a possible lockout of rotation and probe would be a nicety but in using the previous model i never had a true need for it. in summary it can likely do anything you want and more. ... show more

  • Good Replacement In-wall Microwave
We had another Sharp microwave for over twenty years before it failed. It's part of a wall oven / in-wall installation. This replacement Sharp microwave was designed to fit in the exact same place, using the same trim pieces. It fit exactly, and has a bit of an update look. Functionally, it is identical to the old microwave it replaced. This is a combination convection oven and microwave. It has the same 900 watt power rating as our old unit. 900 watts is less than the current standard for full size microwave ovens, which would be in the 1100 - 1200 watt range. Thus just means it will take a little longer to heat certain microwavable foods, longer than the time spec'd on the food packaging. ... show more

  • Lighter and works well
This replaced a 37 year old Sharp carousel microwave/convection oven that no one wanted to fix. It is slightly more powerful and lighter (60 lbs vs 75) and so far easy to use. My only issue is that the screen continues to show it is finished until you open/close the door. Probably fine, though I don’t need it and it probably stresses those sections of the screen unnecessarily. Still, works well. ... show more
