Review is long overdue. I bought this dryer in Dec 2023 after dropping and breaking my beloved Babyliss Pro and I've really been enjoying it. My medium length (at my shoulder blades) straight hair is problematic in that it's baby fine but dense, tangles in an instant, frizzes if you look at it funny and refuses to hold a style or retain volume for more than 10 min but this dryer can handle it all. It takes less than 5 min to fully dry my wet, not damp, hair; the concentrator attachment tames frizz and prevent knots; the brush attachment allows me to create volume and temp settings set the style. My hair is sleek and shiny with volume at the roots for much longer than my previous dryer. Some reviews have said it's too heavy and/or too loud but it's a similar weight to my previous pro ceramic type dryer and while a little louder than expected, it's nothing major. My only issues were that it's bigger than my other dryer, with a much longer handle, so it took a few uses to get comfortable with it (my hands are small) and it doesn't come with a storage box or bag so I had to find one large enough for the dryer and attachments. Those minor issues aside, I still give this dryer 5 stars and highly recommend it. Those used to a pro dryer will enjoy it and anyone using a traditional Conair or Revlon type will be blown away by the difference...sorry for the pun!

Before the Shark blow dryer (which my very good friend/professional stylist recommended to me) I had the BabyLiss with the Ferrari engine. But until this new dryer, I’ve still always had to towel/air dry my hair for a good 45 minutes to an hour before I could use my blow dryer. Then, it would STILL take about 45 minutes of drying, 20 minutes of flat ironing, etc. I have EXTREMELY thick hair, and a LOT of it. So washing, drying, and straightening used to take my stylist about two hours...myself, three. I’d always wait after getting out of the shower not only to save myself time and blow dry less, but also because if I dried my hair immediately after washing it, it would be insanely frizzy and get heat damage. Well, I took a chance with the Shark and dried my hair for the first time in years immediately upon getting out of the shower, while it was still soaking wet. It was absolutely amazing. Not only was it dry within 10-15 min TOPS, there was very minimal frizz, virtually no heat damage. I didn’t even try to use the built in diffuser/straightener nozzle and it turned out looking like I’d flat ironed it anyway! I still did briefly go over it with the flat iron, but wow...this dryer is seriously a lifesaver with the amount of time it now saves me! And I never expected it to look nearly perfectly straight without an iron (since my hair is like a mix of straight/wavy). I have no complaints at all. I’ve seen people complain about it being heavy, but it’s only what, 3.5 lbs? I think only half a pound heavier than my last dryer. I’m like 5’5 and 100 lbs too, so it’s not exactly like I have toned or muscular arms, lol. Also, if you’re only using it for ten minutes, does it really matter if it’s slightly heavier than your last one? My recommendation, especially if you have a TON of REALLY THICK hair like me, have always dreaded showering because drying and styling it takes SO much time, is to buy this dryer NOW. It may not be worth it if you have finer hair and not an obscene amount of it... I mean, my mother and sister can blow dry their hair in ten minutes with any dryer, straight out of the shower. I got my dad’s hair, however, and it’s like the equivalent of having a shrub on my head, lol. This is the first hairdryer that has given me such a huge sense of relief, in that I will no longer need to set aside hours for myself to shower and dry my hair (sorry to go on and on, I really am just that happy!).

When I first purchased this blow dryer in September of 2022, I hesitated. I waited. I debated spending well over $200 on a blow dryer - I've *never* spent that kind of money on a blow dryer, not even on my salon-quality Babyliss dryer (which I was replacing). However, I LOVE Shark's vacuums and have been a loyal customer for 20 +/- years, so based on my experience with the brand, the purchaser reviews, and the promises from Shark about their advanced technology + avoiding damage to my fine hair - I was finally convinced and bought it. YAY, yes? Not. So. Fast. It hasn't lived up to the hype. Not even close. First, this thing is H-E-A-V-Y. And when I say it's heavy, I mean it's the kind of heavy that you need to keep this thing on your nightstand or under your pillow as a weapon against intruders. Be prepared for arm fatigue for the first six weeks of use. Your arms and hands will legit get tired as you're drying and styling your hair. My momma didn't raise a wimp, so I sucked it up and told myself that I was doing it for my locks. My dominant hand and arm are now a bit more toned as a result (bonus, I guess?). The second thing is that the controls for adjusting the strength, heat, and cold air blast just aren't located in intuitive places or operated by more intuitive controls, so even after several months of use, I found myself still having to interrupt my drying and styling to make changes that you'd think you'd be able to do on the fly after a little bit of use. NOPE. Thirdly, I purchased the option that included the concentrated nozzle and the drying/styling brush. I have fine hair that's on the straighter side, so this seemed like the appropriate option since I won't be using a diffuser. However, the tools suffer the same design flaws as the dryer itself - nothing is intuitive to use as far as your hands are concerned, so I'm constantly interrupting my drying and styling to just try to get the #$&+ tools to work for me. Switch sides of your hair? Okay - stop drying your hair, fiddle with the styling brush to change the direction of it, and then you have to rotate the brush around to find the right position and angle for that part of your head - and you have to do that every single time you move to a new section. Every single time. Like you, I value you my sanity, so I finally just ditched the attachment tools all together because seriously friends, life is far too short for all of that hassle. It's a battle that we time-pressed users shouldn't have to engage in when you're one handed (because you're literally holding a two-ton brick of a hair dryer with one hand while simultaneously attempting to maneuver the controls and attachments with the other), and it was resulting in wasted time that we don't have. You'd think a company like Shark would have engineered all of this to be the kind of user-friendly tool that we've come to expect from the brand. But they haven't. Lastly, and here comes the worst and most insulting part: After owning this dryer for just six months and only using it a few times a week, it's suddenly started to shut off mid-blow dry + style entirely on its own. Now, you may be asking yourself why this would happen, as I did I (though I did it with some expletives because I only blow dry and style when I have somewhere to be). I can't be certain, but it seems like the unit is overheating. My filter is clean, though TBF, there's no great way to clean it. The unit doesn't open up so you can remove a filter and clean it thoroughly like you can with every other blow dryer I've ever owned. No, with this piece of modern engineering technology, you're supposed to only use something like a soft-bristled toothbrush to attempt to clean the filter from the outside, and FWIW, mine's never seemed dirty. Regardless, I've been doing that faithfully all along since I'm so used to doing it anyway, so the only thing that I can attribute it's premature demise to is that there's some kind of hardware component failure in the guts of the beast. This does have some kind of limited two year warranty through Shark, but it will have to be sent in to be serviced, and it looks like there's a charge of around $30 for this, of which I'm entirely salty about. An appliance this costly should have a manufacturer that stands behind it fully for at least a year. Add to this that it's also created the need for me to buy ANOTHER hair dryer, because my Shark HyperAIR doesn't work, and I still need a way to dry my hair for however long it's going to take to get this one shipped to them, fixed, and returned back to me. Yes, I'm cussing again. Unfortunately for Shark, this brought about a revelation, and since I love you all so much, and let's face it, you've read my review novella so you should be compensated for that effort: I discovered a hidden gem that's right here on this site and it will save you your hard earned dollars, some swears, some unnecessary workouts, and the need for a third arm when blow drying that hopefully none of you have. It's called the Remington D3190 that is also an Ionic-Ceramic Tourmaline blow dryer. It's lightweight, user friendly, fits nicely in your hand, has a THREE YEAR limited warranty, and is under...get this...twenty dollars as I'm typing my review. It actually dries my hair faster than the HyperAIR, which I think is because without all of the messing around and wasted time with controls and attachments, it's just a more efficient tool to use. Even if the price goes up to double what it costs at the time of me leaving this review, you'll still be money ahead, with nicely styled hair, and have far less exasperation in your life. You're welcome. Now, you're probably wondering what I'm going to do with my fancy (not so fancy) Shark HyperAIR after I get it back from Shark, and even if you weren't, I'm going to tell you: I'm going to get it fixed and see if I can't sell it on Marketplace or some other site. I cannot recommend it as an appliance after my absolutely horrendous user experience, and I hope to spare some of you from the same fate. It hasn't done anything to improve the quality of my hair experience in six months, though it has given me some fits. SAVE YOURSELVES. Save your sanity. Save your dollars. (Unless you're into really expensive paperweights. Then, meh, this might be for you?

Just as I hit the 11 month mark I began to get the overheating error. The blow dryer would stay on for just over a minute before failing. No amount of cleaning the blow dryer seemed to help. The fan felt like it was barely pushing out air. Got on the phone with customer support and 15 minutes later and $25 in shipping I have a replacement on the way. It's a great blow dryer when it works! I'm just worried about the longevity going forward. //////// Update: /////// I've had my replacement Shark for 4 months, I've cleaned it after every single use following the steps in the Shark YT video and this one is beginning to fail as well. The issue is incompetent design on the filter which can not be removed or repalced. I've even attempted the filter deep clean (Another official Shark YT tutorial) and that did not help either. I believe I'm still in warranty but at this point I'm done. I just bit the bullet and ordered a Dyson. Shark as a brand has been soured for me. I'm pretty frustrated that the cheap $40 fake Dyson look alike I had years ago outlasted a $220 Shark.

I don't normally write reviews but this is definitely worth the time. I didn't think my curls could look so good! I got this set and bought the diffuser separately in case I wanted to give up and straighten my hair again cuz going back to natural curls is driving me nuts. But the dry time was cut in half and my hair feels much softer. My hair isn't out of control or frizzy. It's a bit noisy but all blow dryers are, it's not any louder than any other dryer. The heat settings are different, the lowest setting is almost the same as the highest on the cheaper ones. The speed setting is about the same as most dryers. The cool setting is truly a cool setting and great for getting the flyaways down! I got mine as open box and it's perfect. Not sure why they blacked out simple things like the name of the dryer or the QR code for "styling tips" but you do not get a warranty with an open box/refurbished so just an FYI. It's worth the buy tho, when this one gives out on me I'll definitely buy another one. Great find!

As someone with naturally long, straight hair, I've always been hesitant to use hair dryers. The fear of heat damage was a constant concern. However, a friend who often battles frizziness highly recommended the Shark HD112BRN HyperAIR Ionic Hair Dryer. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did. I just want to start this review by saying this is a great hairdryer. I have no regrets about spending the money on this because it does a really great job at getting my hair fully dry in a short amount of time compared to my old hairdryer, and the attachments work really well too. BUT.... I had this unit for a month (literally - arrived on October 22nd, and broke on November 21st), and then one day I went to turn it on and.... nothing!! The power just didn't work anymore. I frantically went around to every outlet in my home and it didn't work in any of them. I called into the Shark warranty department and went through the troubleshooting with them (this required me getting on a video call with them, and showing them that the product didn't work when plugged into a few different outlets). After going through the troubleshooting, I was told they could send me a replacement unit, but only after I showed them on the video call that I had cut the cord on the product (easier said than done... this hairdryer has a really nice thick cord on it). He also said they usually charge $20.99 for shipping the new unit, but since I hadn't had my hairdryer for very long he waived it for me. I do have suspicions that Amazon sent me a hairdryer that had been previously used (or maybe refurbished?), as there were small scratches on one side of the unit (like from repeated picking up and putting down on a surface), but they were relativity minor and the unit was clean otherwise, so I decided to just ignore it since it would get scratched from me using it eventually. In hindsight I should have immediately returned it and requested a new one, as it might have been damaged before being sent to me, and it was only a matter of time before it would break for me. I have seen a couple of reviews from other people saying they also received units with scratches on it. I'm excited to get my replacement in the mail (I was told it would arrive in 3-10 business days)... hopefully I have better luck with the next one!
