I have a reputation as a sewing machine whisperer, so I had to see if this would be a good machine for me to teach children how to sew and/or to take as a travel machine for quilting. There are features I like about this machine, and features that have me concerned. I love the small size and how lightweight it is (under 5 pounds!). It's so easy to carry! It's also got all the stitches I need for creating quilt blocks. It comes with 5 presser feet and plenty of extra bobbins and thread. This machine does work and, while top tension is tight, that should ease up with use. All of those qualities would make this a great deal, however, I have concerns over some safety issues. The electrical cord is only 29.5 inches long - it either needs to be plugged into an extension cord or the machine needs to be placed on a very small table right next to an outlet. The foot pedal is tiny: it fits in the palm of my hand. The cord to the foot pedal is 39.5 inches long - it's also not long enough to reach the floor from a regular sewing table. On the right side of the machine, under the handwheel, is a slide button that says "OFF L H". In the OFF position, the light is turned off, but the machine will still sew if the foot pedal is pressed. In the L and H positions, the light turns on and the machine sews by itself. This is my biggest concern: it would be very easy for a child to accidentally start the machine and end up sewing a finger. Example: adult trying to change the needle or bobbin and child slides the button to L or H, or child depresses the foot pedal. I found it interesting that both metal and plastic bobbins are provided with this machine. I tested them, and they both work. Like many basic machines, this one is a bit loud. For now, I would not recommend this machine for children or for beginners in sewing. If longer electrical and foot pedal cords were provided, it would make an acceptable travel machine for someone with experience. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This is a very lightweight, portable machine that gets your average sewing job done easily. But with a few issues and oddities. First, the things to note that are weird and frustrating. The cord for the foot switch is very short, so short, it won’t reach the ground. I have a photo attached showing the machine sitting on a very average height dining table, near the edge. The cord for the foot pedal is plugged in the back and dangles just above the ground,,I have no idea how you are supposed to use it. In the short video included with the listing photos, by the manufacturer, it shows someone pressing it with their hand but that sure would be mighty inconvenient when both hands are better when guiding the material and sewing. How do you hold down the reverse lever, press the pedal and guide the fabric with only two hands? The other oddity is that you can only use the pedal when the machine is in the OFF position. If you switch it to low or high, it starts immediately and begins sewing. To stop it, you turn it off on the side. This is just so odd. All they needed to do was include another 2 feet of cord and you could use this normally. The power cord is also very short but at least with that you can use an extension cord. With this, I guess I need to see if extension cords are made for these types of round plugs that go into the back of the machine. So needlessly weird. Other than that, the machine seems like it’s made well and will hold up. The 82 piece beginners kit they included is a joke though, it’s the cheapest throwaway possible. The scissors are a joke - rusted, jagged bits of metal that do not cut and would be too small for a babie’s hands. Cheap thread and everything else. Don’t factor the value of the accessory kit into the overall value of the machine, it’s truly junk. But the included array of presser feet and other accessories are nice. I feel like the thread kit was something purchased separately and shoved into the box to make it seem more valuable when it isn’t. Luckily the accessories that seem to have actually come with the machine itself are nice quality. Unless you plan to use this sitting at a child’s table or have a solution for lengthening the foot pedal cord, I would look elsewhere. Otherwise I really like the machine. ... show more
