  • Only sews backward, weaker motor than described
UPDATE: After setting up the return I decided to try one more time to fix the backwards feed. I found plenty of people with the same issue but no clear details about what could be wrong. To fix this issue you’ll need to take the bottom of your machine off. It’s two pieces. Right under the bed is the gear with the hooked rod that controls the fed direction. There’s a tiny piece of metal that needs to be insides groove that is extremely easy to be knocked out of place, especially while being handled and shipped. Simply lift it gently back into the groove. If your machine also has the hooked rod out of place the attachment point is right beside it and the other end fits over a cog behind the reverse control bar. If you press the bar down it shifts the cog over and you simply hook it back on. I’ve added pictures because this is obviously an issue, you can likely manage this repair yourself. (I’m still returning it though, mine was clearly used and missing parts). ORIGINAL: I really really really wanted this machine and saved up some extra money so I could treat myself. I use mostly older machines but this model has been mentioned to me for years as a versatile, tough machine. I call bull. For starters, the "case" is nothing more than a rigid dust cover. First impression? Meh. My grandma had beefier covers over her toaster. Worst of any though, the front says it's the HD3000, but the actual model label lists this as a model 7-something with a weak half amp motor, not the 1 amp described. I have a Janome Hello Kitty machine I gave my daughter that has a .5 amp, this will not handle even the basic darning I do on double layer heavy denim. I didn't notice that motor/label thing at first. I didn't care for the cover, but whatever. But what really got me torqued up is this dang thing will not sew forward. Ever. It only sews in reverse. I tried everything, reading dozens of articles and watching mind numbingly tedious YT videos. Eventually I opened it up in a last ditch effort to try something. As soon as the cover comes off out drops a hooked rod that is clearly not supposed to be free ballin' inside. I spent 4 hours - FOUR. HOURS.- trying to fix it. I found one post that the rod was supposed to attach to, and which piece was disconnected and preventing the feed from going the correct direction, but never found anything to connect it to. I'm not spending another minute dealing with what was supposed to be a brand new hoss of a sewing machine. I don't care about the missing accessories or flimsy case. Lawd knows I have more bits and pieces already. But to get a wimpy, broken boat anchor? Nope. I'm so frustrated with this, work is in literal piles that I need a heavy duty machine for and doubt I'll even bother ordering another one of these. Disappointed doesn't even begin to describe this mess. ... show more

  • Well built and sleek appearance.
I purchased this machine on recommendation from a fellow sewist. I am overall pleased with it. However the first task I set out to do was make buttonholes with the auto buttonhole foot. It failed to complete that task which was frustrating and disappointing. The instructions are barely adequate but after watching some videos online I determined that I had followed all the instruction correctly. It still doesn't complete the full buttonhole cycle and I am unable to make a buttonhole. The lower bartack works and the left side of the buttonhole is completed but then the left side either just continues to get longer or it attempts to make the upper bartack. That bartack is not the correct width and the right hand side never gets made. Looking for support on Janome website. Have not been able to find that support yet. Update on buttonhole foot: I was able to discover settings that enable the machine to complete a buttonhole. I am pleased with this machine and will get hours of use from it . ... show more

  • Love this machine!
I bought this machine as a secondary machine for bag making and small project. It's easy to thread and use immediately. I was surprise of the many decorative stitches it had. I showed my son how to use it and now he has claim it as his own. I can't blame him. It looks like I need another one!

  • Quite the little power machine
I've been sewing for many years but not much industrial sewing. I bought this to add surf pockets to our boat bimini. This involves sewing heavy canvas with heavy weight thread and heavy sewing needles. I have enough experience with machines that the few tension issues I ran into I was able to fix pretty quickly. There is a fair amount of tension adjustment. When I used this to sew a thinner material for blind backing, I had tension issues similar to some other reviewers. So, while his machine works great on heavy materials, I won't use it on lighter weight materials. When sewing the bimini, at times I was going through 7 layers of canvas + exterior reinforcement vinyl. If crossing over perpendicular seams I sometimes slowed and turned the needle by hand, but otherwise I used the presser foot. It's true this machine doesn't have bells and whistles, but I have another machine for those. I was able to transition from 1 to the 7+ layers without much tension adjustment, if any. I used Schmetz 18/110 and 16/100 needles that said made for home machines and had no issues with their size. I did add the walking foot attachment. I'm 100% sure I couldn't have done this project without it. It says for quilting only, but it worked. I also have an external bobbin stand for the Selric UV Resistant High Strength Polyester Thread #69 T70 Size 210D/3 (V Resistant High Strength Polyester Thread #69 T70 Size 210D/3 (purchased on Amazon). I ran it through the machine, set the stand to the side and set the lid down but did not push it closed. Conclusion: For this price point this machine is fantastic. Comparable industrial machines cost $1,000+. I would definitely buy it again. ... show more
