I wasn’t sure what this safe would be like and I’m really glad I purchased. It’s actually bigger than I expected, so I’m pleasantly surprised. Seems solidly made (in the USA) and easily tucked in the closet area. Took me awhile to figure out the locking mechanism but all good now. I’m a bit slow sometimes. 😁 ... show more

  • Home Safe
Size: 1.23 cu.ft. Style: 1-Hr. Fireproof, Combination, Bolt-Down Pattern Name: Safe
I was thrilled to see my safe delivered in my garage when it arrived. The first thing I noticed was how hard it was going to be to move the safe where I wanted it to be placed; it needed two people and one of those fork lift things that the ups workers use (dont laugh, im not savvy.) After getting it to its destination I opened it up (upside down, but thats my fault) and the vault was already unlocked, but it a closed manner, and had all of the paperwork (lifetime warranty, readme, license, etc) in the box but outside of the safe. The code for the safe comes on a sticker on the back of the readme booklet and it CANNOT BE CHANGED.(The company states that this can be a benefit to the user if you choose to register your safe with the company; they can retrieve your code) It also comes with two keys, the keys do not override the combination lock, only adds another layer of security (which I enjoy). Also, I would like to take some time to explain a CON that most people would complain about that I'd like to bring to justice a little bit.. The hinge for the safe is on the outside of the container as you can see on the picture, however the hinge is very solid and bolted together on both ends, it would take a mass amount of force to break the seal off of the hinges also. But lets say that an intruder DOES break the hinge off; the way the indentions inside of the safe are made, you will not be able to pull the lid off of the same without being able to close the metal bars of the door, which will not happen without the key or code (or both) if it is locked. Safe was also made possible to bolt into the floor and it comes with the bolts and nuts to do it, but I find it unnecessary.. it will be hard enough getting it out the door.. I suggest putting the safe under a desk, shelf, or under some items that can add to the complexion of removing your safe. (Adding 30 pounds of items into your safe will already change the weight to over 120 lbs) PROS: Heavy, very secure, change-able shelf racks, dual security feature, keyring hangers, waterproof, fireproof, worth the price, comes with one absorbent pouch which will last for a while. CONS: Cheap inner shelf (Not for things over 15-20 pounds), password cannot be changed*, may sit unevenly** *The company (Sentry Safe) states that the code cannot be changed and it for YOUR security, just in case you lost your password they can send you your code or key again.. if your like me your questioned reasoning and security behind this, but hear me out.. In order for you to get another copy of your code/keys you have to fill out a form that they send you (originally, with the safe) and you have to fill it out entirely, giving your first/last name, address, and all the usual stuff, and also your unique ID number for your safe.. Well that happens to be located inside your safe and on the sticker with your password on it, so if you wish, you could keep it a secret or even destroy the ID number so not even the company who designed the safe will be able to tell what code/key you need. Hope that clarifies questions. **I also believe I have an uneven floor, but I've read another guy's review stating the same thing.. I just slipped the package of screws they gave me under the corner. VERDICT: I love my safe, Im sure they're are better and more secure beasts, but for the money you CANT beat it, it gets the job done. Hope I've helped, Cheers! ... show more

  • Good For The Money
Size: 1.23 cu.ft. Style: 1-Hr. Fireproof, Combination, Bolt-Down Pattern Name: Safe
If you live in an upper class neighborhood, the kind of thief that would be casing your home is a pro. He's going to know when you're gone for an extended period, then break into your home after avoiding your security system. Once inside, he is likely to find your safe, and if it's not an expensive 700lb gun safe with an sophisticated locking system, your valuables will be gone. But let's be honest, most regular folk won't invest in such a safe, because they either don't have the money, or the valuables they want to secure would not justify the cost. While this safe would not be the best investment to deter a professional burglar in a expensive neighborhood, it will do just fine in most middle class neighborhoods, where less sophisticated, garden variety thieves do their dirty work during the day, and want to get in and out of a home within 10 minutes. Very few can crack a safe combo, and this safe has a secondary key lock if they do. Most won't be carrying the tools to break into it either, and will not want to spend the time trying to saw through any part of the safe, which will also attract unwanted attention. What a thief might try to do is carry the safe out of the home. One would think that would be taking quite a chance with the possibility of neighbors watching, but if you have a dolly in your garage and a blanket, some thieves might take that chance. Keep in mind, if a thief only plans to be in your home for a few minutes, and is feeling bold, he might just park in your driveway. A strong guy could easily pick up this 100lb safe, walk out of your home and throw it in his back seat. Of course, you could bolt the safe to the floor and into the cement slab of your home, which I would highly recommend. It's not a difficult task using masonry anchor bolts and an impact drill. You can rent the drill at Home Depot and buy the bolts there as well. That's what I did, as this safe allows for you to drill and attach it to either a wall of the floor. My safe is going nowhere, unless the thief really knows what he's doing. Not sure if two guys with a long crow bar could get enough leverage to break it from the floor. This safe has a decent amount of room (enough for some cash, jewelry, documents, etc.), and a cheap, but reliable locking mechanism (it's only a $200 safe). Just make sure the handle is fully in the up position, before turning the dial, or it won't turn properly. The only negative I have is the plastic handle. Really? I get it's an inexpensive safe, but come on. ... show more

  • Just what we needed!!
Size: 2.05 cu. ft. Style: 1-Hr. Fireproof, Combination, Bolt-Down Pattern Name: Safe
This safe is just what we needed! It's strong, roomy, easy to operate and we are so glad we went with the manual dial instead of the electronic--we don't have to worry about replacing batteries or the electronics not working since....there aren't any! It's just a basic manual dial safe. It has a very solid feel and locks up tight! When turning the dial, though, you want to remember to just hold the lever up a bit and you will see how easy it turns by doing that. It's a roomy safe and has two inserts-one a tray and the other a bin, to use for keeping items separated. We like that you can easily adjust both the tray and bin to fit your needs. The combination is preset at the factory and is shown on the back cover of the manual. Make sure to make a note of it some place safe where you can easily find it. The manual also shows the serial number for you so that's good to have in case any issues come up. We drilled into, and through, the floor so did not need the concrete bolts. Actually, we used a couple of 7/16" bolts we had and also the matching nuts and cinched them up nice and snug. Make sure when you drill that you drill from the outside of the safe, not inside. The Bosch drill bits went through the metal easily. We then righted the safe and used a brush to clean out the debris. Some of the debris is sharp so watch for it. The door closes nice and snug however the drilling compromises the waterproof feature but it's well off the main floor so that was not an issue but it is something you want to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to anchor the safe. We read the directions before doing anything and they are very clear and easy to follow. All in all, a great safe and we are very happy with it!! A further note: The bottom of the same is very smooth and we were able to slide it along to it's permanent location!! (We are seniors so paid the fee to have it delivered inside our home. It weighs 125 lbs. so it was well worth it to have the delivery men bring it inside) ... show more

  • Solid build, great quality
Size: 2.05 cu. ft. Style: 1-Hr. Fireproof, Combination, Bolt-Down Pattern Name: Safe
It's more expensive than the average ones but you get the build quality and design. Yes the lever is plastic but it's the point, you want it to break if forced so no one can get into the safe. The entire box is super heavy for the same reason: protection. It also has a hinge that appears to be very easy to defeat but if you look inside you will find the door is completely wedged into the frame when closed. Taking out the hinge will not result in defeating the lock, the door shall remained locked. I do not regret paying for it. Excellent design & quality and it shows. ... show more

  • Good middle of the road
Size: 1.23 cu.ft. Style: 1-Hr. Fireproof, Combination, Bolt-Down Pattern Name: Safe
So when i was safe shopping, i was looking for a medium size safe, didn't need to be a fire/water safe but i wanted a secure safe with a few locking rods and a dial lock. I also didn't want to pay $300 for a safe. This is the perfect safe for what i was looking for. It will keep anyone out, not many people can just come in and lift it up and take it out alone because it is awkward, it could be done but not easily. You can also bolt it down to prevent that. The only thing I do not like is you need a key and the combination to open it. But to get away from this, you can simply leave the safe at the ending number of the combination and lock it with the key and use the key only for quick access when you are home and need to get at a gun or something quickly. The dial does seem a little cheap but I don't see it breaking. It locks tight, opens when you need it too, no batteries to go dead, nice interior, shelf is nice. Overall I love it. Isnt a perfect safe but absolutely worth the $170. You won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY!
Size: 2.05 cu. ft. Style: 1-Hr. Fireproof, Combination, Bolt-Down Pattern Name: Safe
I bought this safe after my mother passed away to store documents, coins, stamps and a couple antique metal items. Nowhere in the Amazon description, provided by SentrySafe, are there any warnings about what not to store. The images that SentrySafe provides show books, a camera, and what looks like photo albums, none of which are in airtight containers. The first description is on Amazon "...safe for irreplaceable documents, valuables, DVDs, and USBs...". How I read that is that if you can store irreplaceable documents, USBs, and such than it is safe to store a wide range of items. I haven't opened the safe for a month or so and opened it to add some items. The first thing I noticed was a strong odor of mildew. I removed some items, and they were moist, as I checked other items some leather products were covered in mildew and the antique metal items were starting to rust. I then got out the manual and I noticed that it states, "SentrySafe products which offer fire protection have a proprietary insulation that has a high moisture content". The safe did come with three large moisture packets which I left in. Then it continues "DO NOT store delicate items directly in your safe". It then goes on to list jewelry with working parts, watches, stamps, or photos. SentrySafe recommends putting them into an airtight container to protect against moisture. Then it goes on to state, do not store pearls, computer disks, audio-visual cassettes, or photo negatives? What the hack can you store in it then? So, after I received the safe the first thing I did was find the combination and how to open it, simple. I put the manual away, loaded it up and then locked it only to find irreplaceable items being ruined. Yes, I should have read all the warnings in the manual but saw no indication of any "warnings" in the Amazon description on what and what not to store. But come on folks, do you read all the warnings with new products? We know not to put kids in refrigerators or plastic bags, don't use a hair dryer in the bathtub, or knives are sharp. The warnings should have been listed in the Amazon description as well as a warning tag on the safe. I contacted Amazon regarding this issue but since the safe is over a year old they wouldn't do anything. So, I tried calling SentrySafe (mid-day) but was on an indefinite hold pattern and hung up. I'll try again in the morning and wait it out to see what the response will be. Update: I tried calling back the next day but once again I hit a long hold time. I've now contacted them via email and the automated reply states they will call me within 3 days, we shall see? This post will be updated with the response from SentrySafe, stay tuned! ... show more
