I love the feeling of the water resistant seal as the door perfectly aligns up during a lock. The Sentry website has a nice way to help you securely tuck away factory codes and such. Also, the door storage isn't too shabby. flashlight on top, box in the bottom pocket. I think I read you can have more than one door code to make it easy to access and the battery tray is so awesome! Cons: No lights on the door :-( and the dimensions were a bit misleading. The 18" is actually depth from front to back. -not side to side as the photos suggest. a bit difficult to fit in our original spot, but still glad. Works well in all aspects of functionality. Nice and heavy and sturdy and roomy. Better than I expected w some of the negative reviews. Very happy with purchase. Yes it has a plastic handle and button pad and I'm sure if it went thru a fire you would have to drill or cut it open but as long as the valuables inside are still valuable I'd say it's a win. ... show more

    • BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED!!!!!!!!!!!
I was stumped for awhile when I first got this, because I could not open it. I read the instruction manual over and over. NO WHERE DOES IT MENTION THAT YOU NEED TO PUT BATTERIES IN FIRST! In fact, there's no mention at all that there are even batteries required. It would be nice if there was a big red sticker in front of the keypad that warns you that batteries are required. If the safe came with a set of batteries, that would have also been a good clue. Anyway, there's a slot, kind of hidden in the side of the keyboard, in front of the safe. Put your own batteries in, and your good to go. (I was relieved that I didn't have to return a hundred pound safe.) The safe appears to be sturdy and works fine. The only two comments I have is that it locks from only one side. Other safes have a locking mechanism that have multiple bolts that lock on all four sides. With the door hinge on the outside, the pin holding the hinge seems like it could be cut and removed. Obviously, I didn't try this. The other tip is definitely don't keep the instruction manual next to the safe. Although it doesn't tell you about the batteries, the instructions do tell you how to open it if you forget your user-set combination! ... show more

Pros: Very reasonable price, easy to operate, satisfy my needs. Cons: Can program another code but the default code can still open. Very practical for items like jewelry, hand guns, and other small expensive items. Need to put enough absorbent materials to make sure the inside is completely dry to avoid rusting of any metallic items.     • "Safe" against what?
It is hard to write a review for this product. With the massive invasion of products from Asia, it seems that the word "safe" has changed meaning. If for you a safe is a metal box with some kind of lock, which can avoid kids, family and weekend thief to access your belonging, this is a safe, and it is not bad compare to the others. At least you can change the battery without opening the safe. But keep in mind that it will takes less than 10 minutes to open it with tools you can find in most of US home. You better glue it to the floor/wall, there is no other way to fix it. Update: After one month of use, the safe lock is already broken, with of course my passport, credits cards and papers inside. When you buy a safe you expect durability and reliability. Sentrysafe seems to have a quality control system not very efficient. I tried many time to contact the customer service by telephone, it seems very busy, maybe too many unhappy customers. At the end I had to open it by myself because I needed my papers, you have so many designs flaws, check youtube and make your choice. My biggest problem was the material uses for fire protection, which I hope it is not asbestos, which generate a lot of dust. For the rest the metal front plate is as thin as my mailbox and you can pill it with your hand, after it is just mud and plastic.     • Very nice and Easy to Use
The safe arrived in perfect condition and was very easy to set up. I like the option of have two different codes for the safe. It is a heavy safe (approximately 100 lbs) and is replacing a smaller Sentry Safe.
