TL;DR: Finally decided to invest in a home safe, and this SentrySafe exceeded my expectations. Despite a minor dent on arrival, it's a reliable and secure choice. If you're anything like me, you've debated getting a home safe for ages. I've done the research, eyeballed them in stores, and scrutinized the prices repeatedly. It's a back-and-forth dance that lasts way too long. But I've finally taken the plunge with this SentrySafe, and I couldn't be happier. Let's address the elephant in the room first - the safe arrived with a nasty dent (see picture). It's a bummer, but it doesn't affect the safe's core function. Plus, it doesn't impact the fire and water rating. Amazon's customer service offered replacements, refunds, or a discount, but I opted to keep it. Now, onto the fun part! Grab four AAA batteries and keep your documents far away from the safe - don't lock them inside! Trust me; it's a headache you don't want to deal with. Follow the owner's manual, and you'll have this baby up and running in no time. My safe came with lag bolts for floor mounting, but keep in mind, that voids the water-resistant warranty. I'm not too concerned since I don't live in a flood-prone area. Inside, you'll find a lockbox that I absolutely adore. It helps keep things organized, and I've even ordered another one. The LED lights that illuminate the interior are fantastic, and you can program them to stay on for your preferred duration. The keypad is user-friendly, with an audible beep for each key press (you can turn it off). The door opens and locks smoothly, and there are small bins inside the door, key hooks, and ample space for documents. In conclusion, this SentrySafe was well worth the wait. I've read a lot of reviews that said it was a good safe for the money, but arrived scratched, dented, etc. Some people complained about the locking mechanism, and so on. But for me personally, I consider myself lucky, I guess? My safe arrived in absolute perfect condition! No issues at all what so ever. For me, the locking mechanism works great. I can get in, and out of my safe within seconds. I don't know what else to say except that I love my safe, and I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. Excellent product!!! I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of this safe for the price we paid. We aren’t trying to ward off sophisticated thieves trying to get at our gold bars or anything like that, our main concern is having something that’s fire / water resistant to put passports and birth certificates etc. into. For that purpose, this safe is perfect. Setup was a breeze, though we opted against trying to bolt it into place. I didn’t read the description carefully before purchasing and haven’t had a safe like this before so below are a couple things that surprised me that others might find helpful: 1) There is a master safe code included in your manual that cannot be deleted and will always work to unlock your safe, though you can add additional codes that will be easier for you to remember. 2) Two keys are included, which I was aware of. However, I thought the keys were backups to use in case the keypad for whatever reason wasn’t working or you forgot your code. That’s not the case, the key can instead be used as a secondary safety mechanism. If you turn the key to the “locked” position, you’ll need both the key and your code to get into the safe. 3) The batteries for the keypad are removed from the front of the safe. For some reason I though for security purposes it would need to be inside of the safe, however it does make a lot more sense to have it outside so it’s easy to change out when it dies. Sorry for anyone that’s had a safe before these are probably no-brainers, but I’m a newbie to the safe world. Overall I’d say this is a very well made safe that seems very solid and tamper resistant.
