It is also UL classified to survive in a fire for one hour at 1700 degrees Fahrenheit and ETL verified for water submersion to protect against flood.

This is an upgrade to another safe I’ve been having for over a decade, which is a cheaper model, smaller interior, lower fire rating and no water rating. Sentry Safe arrived earlier than promised, which was great. I opened the box labeling up, but it was the bottom, no big deal, I flipped it around..VERY VERY heavy box. The plastic face part, which contains the locking mechanism and the handle, was detached in the box. If this was the way the company intended to ship it, it would have had some type of protection for it. It’s all in one piece. This sent waves of thoughts through my head. Do I need to send it back, was my first thought. Seeing the plastic detached, I saw how cheaply constructed this portion of the unit is. In a fire, this part will be gone very very quickly. I wondered about the unit as a whole, if it would do the job it was intended for. Plain to see, by smashing this cheap plastic mechanism, the safe will fall open, effortlessly. I was however, able to easily snap it back onto the safe. I took it to the other room, carrying it with my arms and hands around the body, now, not trusting the handle, as my 13 lb puppy was underneath following me as usual. The safe I really wanted from this company, I did not buy only because it lacked a handle. After seeing this, I thought, its so cheap to make, why not put one? Now I can speculate, any heavier, and a handle like this cheap construction, likely wont carry it. It comes with two keys. I’m going to keep it mainly because I did significant research on this and options are few. I just hope if there’s a disaster, it does as advertised. ... show more

For me, its just the right size. We don't need to keep much beyond some important documents such as birth certificates, passports, digital storage devices and 7 million in cash (just kidding). It fits just about anywhere which makes it convenient to access. This provides more protection against fire than it does protection against theft which is what I wanted it for. I'm glad I cannot comment on how well it performed in a real fire and I'm hopefull I will never have to! Best of luck in your search! ... show more

I realized I didn't have anything for storing important paperwork and documents at home - at least that could stand up against a catastrophe. I wanted something fireproof for sure but also portable. You certainly have to weigh in the risk of theft with this as well, since it could be easily stolen (compared to something permanently affixed to the floor, for example). My decision on this was made because, in a hurry, this could be grabbed and tossed out a window or just carried out with you if need be.
