I purchased these to hold my kayak using J-Hooks. I strap the kayaks to the J-Hooks then use these straps to tie down the bow and stern of the kayak. I have been using these for a few years now and they still work great. VERY easy to use and durable. True story: I had a vehicle cut in front of me recently (Did not see I was in his blind spot), I literally had to slam on my brakes and skid. The tie-down cords did not stretch or fray or take damage in any way. That experience just reinforced my confidence in using them.

I put my 11.5' kayak on my Toyota Sequoia and immediately realized I was only going to be able to secure it at one point on my car as opposed to the two I had been hoping for. Instead of being able to loop the rope through a point on my kayak and then tie it down to two points on my car I had to attach one end to my kayak and the other to my car which for me wasn't ideal. That being said I gave it 4 stars because it still did the job and was very easy to use. It just makes me nervous to have it tied down in this manner.

I am not using this for it's intended purpose of securing kayaks, but will use it to secure a projector screen frame I made to use outside. For the purpose of hanging this frame, this ratchet set is perfect. I can make the rope as tight or loose as I would like and the hooks give me many options of securing it to something. In all honesty, I was not expecting this set to be as sturdy as it is. The quality is top-notch, with the actual ratchet making a very secure-sounding click as you tighten the rope. With the push of a button, tension is released. I can think of a million uses for this little set, from a clothesline to a sporting situation, it is a great gadget to have around a house or boat. Great design, functionality and price!

These were an add on item when I purchased kayak racks and I'm so glad I got them! Good quality rope and the hooks and ratchet are super easy and smooth. This is going to work way better for tying down kayaks, canoe, etc ...without the clunky ratchet straps we used to use for the ends to the trunk and hood of vehicle. Recommend these for anyone who needs to tie down kayaks, canoe, etc...to a bumper or with special tie down accessories.

Received these today, and this evening did a test run with my 14' 6" kayak on a 1997 Sable/Taurus station wagon, which sits low and is not a large vehicle. With front fender loops as anchor points, the line for the bow tie down was just long enough. About 4 feet short for tying down the stern, where anchor points are holes in the box brace under the rear bumper fascia. The lines only come down from the kayak to the top of the bumper/load floor. If I used one central mounted hose-type anchor loop that you slam in the trunk/hatch lid, the line would be long enough. An 18" soft tie anchored to the latch bar of the load floor cover does work, but prefer an "A" tie down configuration. These are easy to use, just be aware one of the hooks is attached directly to the ratchet mechanism, as is obvious in the photo. The rope/line on these is about 8 feet long, so you could measure from your anchor points to see if these will work for you. Be nice if they came in a 12' length. I will probably switch out the rope for a longer piece. It is simple to remove and replace the rope/line.
