  • This is an amazing tool for refining your espresso shots!
I've had this amazing little scale for about 2 months now and it's been it's made a huge difference in my ability to pull a great shot of espresso. I have an older ECM Giotto that doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the latest generation machines. The scale easily fits between the porta filter and the overflow tray of this semi-commercial machine. It tares to zero after you place your cup on it and it allows you to see exactly what your brew time and weight of brewed coffee is. You can really refine your shots using the basic scientific method of changing only one factor at a time and adjusting grind size and brew time as necessary. This is the best money you'll ever spend on improving the quality of your espresso shots! Love this thing! Buy one! ... show more

  • This is the scale if you are using it to weight your shot for Espresso
I went through a bunch of scales looking for one that would actually start the shot timer within a reasonable amount of time after the first drip hits the cup. Despite claims all the others were 1g+ before the clock started which is a lifetime of drips if you're preinfusing and then ramping up. First, this scale is the first one that essentially starts the clock at the first drip (sometimes second if it's a small drip) so trigger has to be at .5g or less. There are others that claim this but this is the only one actually doing it. Second, and this was a massive bonus that came as a surprise, when it's in espresso mode it auto tares your cup and then auto resets after the shot it done. To explain: scale on. It tares itself to 0. Put cup on. It auto tares the cup to zero. Pull shot. It leaves the final numbers up for just enough time - probably around 10 seconds (I haven't timed it) and then resets everything after a 3second countdown for the next shot if you're pulling back to back. Looks hood, feels good, the silicone top pad is molded around 3 sides of the scale so it isn't slipping off like all the others that have it only molded down on one side. Like I said, if you're using this for espresso it's the one to get. Can't comment on how long it will last as I've had it for a week. ... show more

  • So far so good
This is a compact and sleek scale that fits pretty much any espresso machine (even ones with tight clearances). It's a specific use device. The scale area is honestly too small for it to be used as a general kitchen scale. Solid aluminum construction. The one I received reads accurate (tested with separate calibration weights) and has a good reading sensitivity. The rechargeable battery works great as well, I haven't had any issues with it discharging or not being able to hold a charge. It's been going strong for about a month now without needing to be charged. The only complaint I have is the almost $50 price tag. Overall, I'm pleased with it and would recommend it. ... show more

  • Premium scale and timer
This Bucanim Metal mini coffee scale is a premium looking and feeling scale. I shopped for a while for such a scale and read lousy reviews of lack of repeatability, drifting and hard to use. This one is none of those things. It works great! The regular mode is just a scale with a tare mode. I have put my portafilter on it tapped the tare button and waited for it to zero. It doesn't drift, it stays on zero. Add 18.1 grams of ground coffee remove the portafilter and put it back it is the same weight. That seems like a duh what did you expect, but it is not as normal as it should be in small inexpensive scales. This scale repeats down to the .1gram. I've never had a scale with a timer built in and that is one feature I was looking for. I wanted to get my Breville shot timer programmed as it was making about 60g shots instead of 36 to 40g. The espresso mode is awesome. It does it all automatically. Set the scale under your work head tap the clock button 4 times and the display switches to ESP. Set you cup or shot glass on it, and it will automatically tare. Start your shot and as soon as the first drop hits the cup the timer starts. When the shot stops the timer stops and it holds the numbers so you can read them for 5 sec. Then it tares again and is ready for your next shot. If you are doing multiple shots, you can just leave it on under the work head and it will tare to each cup and time every shot without input from you. I have never worked in a coffee shop or stand but I could see this as a double check that you just leave in place and let it do it's thing. If you get off on shot time or weight you will notice right away. In my little home setup, I am not doing shots back-to-back that often and I am still using this scale to weigh my grounds. For me it's back to REG mode weigh the grounds then change to ESP mode and time and weigh the shot. Repeat. It's easy enough and I'm not in a hurry, usually the most I'll do is two coffees. One with one shot and one with two. Three shots back-to-back isn't a problem. The scale looks great and is not light weight, weighing in at 8.1oz without the rubber pad and 9.2oz with it. I have a larger kitchen scale that weighs less. The heft gives it a feeling that it is not cheaply made. That may be just an illusion, but it looks and works great. I didn't mention that, but it comes with a rubber mat that covers three sides. The bottom is also a thin rubber pad, so it doesn't slide around easily. The scale is not waterproof but with the rubber mat if you spill a little coffee or water and it runs off the side, the mat covers the charging port so that a spill doesn't run into the port. The buttons are on the top of the scale so when you press them you see the scale react to your pressure. I thought this may be an issue, but it always comes back to the same weight or if you are taring the scale there is enough of a delay for the scale to settle first. ... show more

  • Impressive, small footprint espresso scale
Love with this mini scale - it fits my espresso machine well, even using a double spout portafilter. In terms of operation, take some time to read the manual / at least look at the pictures. It was not intuitive to me to press and hold the T button to put it in to standby mode for instance. Once acquainted, the timing modes are very helpful (my espresso machine has a timer built in but I could see how useful this would be for those without) and the taring function works well. It seems accurate when compared to other scales. The silicone cover is extremely useful given the inevitable spills & drips you will encounter while making coffee. ... show more
