  • Don't know why I waited
After watching multiple online reviews and videos about the srpe 53k, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered one, and now I honestly don't know why I waited. It's exactly what I've been looking for for years. I wore a gada for years in my circa 2003 tag Heuer link auto, but it eventually needed service and repair, and so while it was being done, I branched out into the watch collecting world and have since acquired several other watches, of many different styles. Following that watch, I'd assumed I'd want a dive watch, since the watch I didn't get back then was the seamster pro. However, after eventually getting one and several other divers, I kept gravitating back to explorer like watches. However, my need to repair my tag and even my smp later on (thankfully still under warranty) got me spooked on using any pricey watch as a real daily. And the quartz watches I had never really replaced the feeling of an auto watch used as a daily (needing to wear it to keep it going). Naturally I then gravitated to homages since they were cheap and cheerful and automatic Problem was I still didn't like having a homage be my gada daily either. Felt off for one of those to be my most worn watch so to speak (the lynchpin of my collection). Then the srpe came out. Bezelless dive watch from a respectable brand with all the provenance of the venerable skx clearly seen in the dial, hands and case and with an in house movement, but at almost homage pricing. And yet I didn't pull the trigger. Maybe it was the hardlex, the case size, the unscrewed crown or reports of the iffy bracelet, or the day date (not my preference), or that I already had a pd1692, which was pretty good and with better specs. However, this year, after finally accepting that the pd wasn't going to be my daily, and too fearful to lose my recently acquired longines conquest 39 to repair from overuse, and also having the excuse of my wife asking me what I wanted for Xmas, I decided finally to bite the bullet and see (via prime no less in case I changed my mind) if the srpe 53k was all the reviewers said it was. And am I glad I did. I never had an skx so had no idea how nice that case is. The sides are awesome and make a 40mm oyster case feel slabsided and too sharp. Also now that I've had the longines with it's sharp crown, I fully appreciate the comfort of the 4 o'clock crown on the Seiko 5. And the lightweight bracelet is actually comfortable and pretty good, and I recently realized I prefer these hollow bracelets for comfort (had already swapped the one on the pd for the hollow bracelet from my invicta). As for the stamped clasp, I don't mind it. What people never talk about is the reduced weight and size that comes with a stamped clasp. Also that you can bend or flatten the stamped parts to make the bracelet ever so slightly tighter or looser on your wrist (which you obviously cannot do on a milled one, though I did watch one video where someone had to do that with a vise to fix an oddly curved one. The case size while 40mm like the pd1692, looks smaller and a better fit on my 7 inches wrist (feels like a 39mm). The push pull crown is fine for swimming (have done plenty with the sur) and can be very convenient when winding (also you can foul screw down crowns; broke my mako screw down pusher and that crown also stuck). And finally that blue sunburst dial is just awesome. It fades from blue to black depending on the light and I find myself checking it out constantly. Plus lumibrite lume is so good it beats all of my watches save my Omega. In the end, I'm well glad I got one, and I suspect if you're wondering about it like did, you might too. ... show more

  • Perfect everyday watch. Keeps amazing time.
I always liked the dial of the Seiko 5 divers, so I bought the graphite one last year. Then this model came out without the diver’s bezel, making it easier to wear and very clean looking. My diver loses 5-10 seconds a day, but this stays within 10 seconds over a week of occasional wearing. I have three invicta’s with cheaper Seiko Automatic movements than this watch and they keep very good time as well. I have a Tag and a Sinn with Swiss ETA movements and one loses 7-10 seconds a day and the other gains the same. The band is clean looking and very comfortable. ... show more

  • Perfect watch for beginners
Comfortable watch, can be used dressed up or down. I changed the bracelet with a jubilee one and changed the crystal with a domed blue sapphire, and now it’s competing against my other $1000 watches, because it feels so premium.

  • Nice watch for the price
This is a really nice watch for the price. The steel bracelet links are good, however, it has hollow end-links and a cheap clasp. I'm giving it 4 out of 5, just because they went cheap on the endlinks and clasp. I ended up swapping out the clasp that I had laying around from an Orient watch that I have in my collection. The watch itself has a nicely laid out clean dial that pays a bit of an homage to a Rolex Sub. (Clearly this is not Sub quality) but it looks great on the wrist and has a solid Seiko movement. It wears a little smaller than its 40mm case size ( I have a 7.25in (18cm) wrist ). Seiko is a great watchmaker, and there's a lot of value here. Great for casual wear and it can be dressed up with a nice leather band. ... show more

  • Maybe My Favorite Watch
I own 10 watches but this Seiko 5 is one of my favorites. It is beautiful front and back. After adjusting the bracelet this watch has become the most comfortable one on my wrist. I track all of my watches weekly for accuracy. Of course my quartz watches are more accurate than this automatic movement but this watch is plenty accurate. Over 4 weeks this watch has averaged -45 seconds per week. The first week this watch was 63 seconds slow but the following weeks were much better. Since I do not wear this watch everyday I appreciate that it can be hand wound in addition to the automatic movement. ... show more

  • Stopped Working
Purchased this watch in February and wore it every day. It randomly stopped working however, I kept wearing it all day hoping it would start up again since it is an automatic watch. I brought it to a watch repair shop and they said it would cost more to fix it than replace it. Very unfortunate since I really enjoyed the style. ... show more
