This is the second pair of IR night vision goggles that I have owned. The first set was powered off of AA batteries, so the rechargeable, longer lasting battery in these is a huge upgrade. I also think that the range of visibility is better on these. Since the functionality is determined by shining an infrared light into the darkness (invisible to humans) and using a camera sensitive to those wavelengths to see what ti reveals, the range is quite limited on this design of NVGs. I found that this pair functions quite well and had enough range to actually be useful. I also like that I can record what I am seeing. I am not a fan of how challenging it can be to use and navigate the menu systems. Zooming in and out is done with the same buttons that adjust the brightness of the light, so it can be frustrating to remember/figure out how to do one function instead of the other. I think that these are a nice, portable option for seeing in the dark that won't break the bank. They are more of a novelty item than a practically useful one, but you never know when they might come in handy.

First of all, these aren't goggles, or binoculars, as described in the listing. The image is displayed on a 3" screen that is meant to be held at some distance from your eyes. - The image is fairly bright, even at its dimmest setting, which can be a little disorienting in the dark as you transition your view from the screen to your surroundings. - The flashlight function works pretty well, and can be used at the same time as night vision. - The 8x digital zoom feature is just okay. Adjusting the zoom requires a rather long press and hold of the '+' or '-' buttons. - Focus is performed manually, by rotating the lens focus ring. - Night vision is surprisingly good. This device offers 4 lighting modes for different low ambient light scenarios: "low light", plus 3 different IR intensities. - This device does a pretty good job maintaining a charge. Mine has held a full charge for 4 months (and counting) - perfect if it's going to sit on a shelf and only be used sporadically. - It has a standard 1/4-20 UNC female thread for tripod mount - Many options are available in the onscreen menu, including Time Lapse (i.e., shutter delay; 2, 5, or 10 sec.), Photo Burst (3 photos), and video and photo quality options Overall, this device is a solid option if you're looking for a night vision camera/camcorder that won't break the bank.
