  • It's an SAS drive.. yay
Capacity: 20 TB
SAS drives are hard to find on Amazon (I find the "SAS is not what I ordered" story hard to believe). Even when I put "SAS" in the search box, I get a whole bunch of recommendations for SATA drives. Ok, SATA is a reasonable alternative, but, it doesn't fit my use case. Anyway, this IS an excellent drive. It's not noisy (I don't know where this "it's noisy" myth comes from?); no it isn't - it makes a brief quiet buzz at boot up - whoop-Dee-do. Otherwise, It has a 2.5 *million* hour ttf. It is as fast an hdd as is available in 2024 and the capacity is just overwhelming compared to a farm of nvme's. It requires a cable connection to an HBA (that requires at least 4x PCIe) and a piece of tape for pin 3 (the auto shut down pin). It's not plug and play, but, it's not impossible for anyone. ... show more

  • Great SAS drive but you might need to modify your chassis or drive
Capacity: 20 TB
Some of the drives being sold here have the new SATA 3.2 power specification. If power is applied to pin 3 of the SATA power connector, the drive will NOT spin up. Google for "toms hardware PWDIS" to learn about it. They have a few suggestions that wouldn't be ideal for me. I chose a more drastic solution of using a razor blade to pry up pin 3 and then micro pliers to twist the pad until it broke off. The drives immediately started functioning correctly in my SAS enclosure with hot swap plugging. My Linux box immediately detected the drives and they are now working great. ... show more

  • Work great
Capacity: 20 TB
Working great so far using an Microsemi Adaptec SMARTRAID 3152 host controller. People should not have posted bad reviews for not paying attention to the interface. These are Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drives primarily for use in RAID with an SFF-8482 connector and require a SAS host controller and the appropriate cable of sufficient quality to support 12GB/s speed. Older SAS controllers such as the PMC-Sierra Adaptec 5000 and 6000 series won't recognize drives of this size so check for compatibility. These give off a fair amount of heat under continuous I/O so a properly cooled enclose is recommended. ... show more

  • READING COMPREHENSION
Capacity: 20 TB
This is a SAS drive. If you rated this product one star because "it doesn't have a SATA port" congratulations you've just ruined the ratings for everyone with reading comprehension skills.

  • Garbage
Capacity: 20 TB
I'd say my biggest problem with it is it doesn't work. It formats as NTFS and lets me start copying files but it's extremely loud and also eventually it fails the copy operation. I would not trust these refurbed drives with data you don't want to lose.

  • Get an IronWolf Instead (Also DOESN'T Have Typical SATA Ports)
Capacity: 20 TB
Upon getting this drive I realized it doesn't use a TYPICAL SATA interface, but instead a more industrial design. I wanted the capacity, so I attempted to buy a SAS to SATA adapter, and it never worked. I am willing to bet the adapter didn't work, but seeing no sign of life from the drive was also concerning. Ended up getting a Seagate IronWolf 22TB for the SAME price so you might as well go for that. ... show more
