  • 4.0 out of 5 stars OK for the price and basic use
Color: Black
I was trying to replace a 20+ year old Casio scientific calculator and decided to give this product a try. I like that this product has a display with two lines. So you can see the calculation and the result at the same time. It comes with batteries with is great. It’s a good product for basic scientific calculations. Something that would be appropriate for a high school student or early college. The product is extremely light, not my personal liking but for some people it might be great. I was disappointed that this calculator does not have engineering notation capabilities like my old Casio. It does have an Eng button so you can change scientific notation to engineer notation but doesn’t allow you to enter calculations in kilo, micro, milli notation. Overall ok if you just want a good basic scientific calculator. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars A good basic Scientific calculator
Color: Black
If you're looking for the old-school type LCD display calculator but it's capable of doing more than just basic arithmetic, this calculator does a good job of it. The downsides are the LCD display itself which can't easily be read in low light, and of course the viewing angle of the LCD means if you're not looking at it directly, all of the numbers turn into black blobs... The display itself isn't very large either so if you've got bad eyes, you might have trouble reading it, especially with the exponents. It has a little plastic cover to protect it from having the buttons mashed while it's in your pocket (which means you don't have to worry about it draining the battery from accidentally being turned on). The whole thing is powered by a couple of small button cell batteries (LR44) that are easy to remove and cheap to replace. Since there's no backlight or large display you save a bit on power usage, but at the cost of being able to see everything better. I'm also not a big fan of the fact there's no dedicated off button/switch. I guess you could say that it saves you from accidentally turning the thing off in the middle of calculating something, but they could have made the same button with a 3 second press = turn on or off. That way you wouldn't just accidentally bump it and turn it on OR off. Overall I'd say this calculator is adequate. It's not going to make anyone jealous, and it's not going to do fancy graphs or anything, but it's also probably not going to get stolen either. Probably the perfect calculator for the kid still in high school that isn't taking a ton of AP classes. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing handheld calculator for the price.
Color: White
I've been a calculator nut for 50 years -- I collect them -- and this one will be featured in my collection -- not just for what it does, but for what it does at this price point. Seriously, unless you need graphing, calculus, matrices, or inference solving (c'mon, do you?), this little guy will do it for you. For old-timers, the functionality is about the equivalent of an HP-11C or an HP-65 without the programming. Astonishing. It comes with batteries (two L1131s -- the type is undocumented, even in the compartment -- use a sharpie on the inside of the battery cover to indicate the type) and a plastic slide cover in a rainbow of colors. (I got white). Physically, it's not nearly as solid as a modern TI or the old HPs -- it couldn't be at this price. It's light-weight plastic, there's no leather case, and there's no backlight, but the keys are solid and standard, have plenty of travel, and the key caps are clearly labeled (you have to squint to make out the alternate functions). Functionally, it's algebraic like the TIs (has parenthesis keys and an "equals" key), but that's a handicap that most students have gotten used to because they don't know about the alternative. (But if you're an engineer, you know to stay with RPN). There're ten digits of precision plus two exponents and apparently, one or two guard digits for rounding, a nice feature. For instance, 1 / 3 * 3 comes out to "1" instead of the ".9999999999" on most calculators. For those interested, the Dexin 82MS scientific has the usual functions: logs, roots, traditional and hyper trig in various decimal or DMS angle units, simple stats including linear regression (tedious to set up, but you *can*), a few variables as memory registers, and even a randomizer. There's an Alpha and a single Shift key to get to rarer functionality. The main drawbacks: * When the display goes off after about a minute of inactivity, the calculator resets and the prior answer is lost. * There are no "business functions" I could discern, but this IS a "scientific." * A single sheet of paper makes a decent attempt at directions, but it's incomplete -- not all functions are covered. Another plus: The clever LCD has two rows. The bottom row contains the calculated value in very readable 7-segment LCD digits, but a smaller alphanumeric dot-matrix row just above shows the formula that was typed in to obtain the result. The formula can be scrolled through, *edited,* and recalculated. Not too shabby for the price of a hamburger and fries. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars It counts!
Color: White
Calculators are amazing instruments. I’ve always been fascinated by the ability for them to take a series of inputs and provide an output, like addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. This one also has several scientific functions in addition to the basics which i rarely, but do occasionally need. The quality? It’s a $7 calculator. It’s light plastic. If it was heavier it would feel higher quality, but it certainly wouldn’t help the functionality. The use? Works. Buttons are a little soft for my preference, but completely adequate. Center button is good but takes a second or two to get used to. LCD screen is about as easy to read as any unlit LCD screen - completely functional, but again, this is a $7 calculator which rivals functionality of a several hundred dollar calculator of about 30-40 years ago. Easy to use. Slide off cover like the old TI’s which protect it in your school bag for transport. Happy to have on my desk so I can now do math calls while on my phone. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Great school calculator
Color: Pink
This calculator was exactly what my kids needed for their school math class. The cover was so hard to get off when it arrived, because the instructions were wedged so tightly between the cover and the back of the calculator! Aside from that, it functions very well, and this is a great choice if you are in the market for this type of calculator. ... show more
