  • Massive difference from the Ti 83/84
If you're hoping to jump up from the Ti 83/84 you may have used in grade school to this thing, well it's nothing like those calculators. The user interface is very picky and the "mouse" isn't the best. The calculator does all kinds of stuff but good luck figuring out how to do it, Even plotting a graph from points and tracing it requires going through a couple windows. I couldn't just pick up the Nspire from the 83/84 and figure it out. I've been having to watch multiple videos and reading the manual to figure it out. It's obvious this calculator is capable of a great many things but figuring it all out will take a while. If you don't need all of these features maybe look at something more simple. ... show more

  • I WANTED to like it...
This may be the best calculator on the market, it definitely wasn't for me though! I figure it is more for programming than mathematics but I may be mistaken. The full keyboard served no purpose for me. I did not like the rocker type buttons for common math functions. I didn't like the scratch pad or the software layout. The keys were nowhere near a TI normal layout. I could go on....... I'm a TI fan, been using them since the 90s but this one was not for me. I sent it back and replaced it with an HP Prime. Hopefully it'll be a better fit for me. ... show more

  • A New Graphing Calculator Model From TI
So far I enjoy this graphing calculator product. The letter keyboard and text document interface and improved file manager are the most obvious new features. All of the catalog functions, built in constants and other symbols are easily accessible. A touch-pad and pointer are built into the device. The enter key is a little out of the way. The back-lit display is a nice improvement. A lighted keypad would be a nice feature, for use in a dark place. The built in rechargeable battery is another good improvement, compared with the 85 and 92 models. It has all the matrix operations and also a programming interface. The graphing window works good and is easily toggled between the calculator screen. Also the calculator pages can be saved as documents, like a script! All the calculus, probability, statistics, and finance calculations are still built-in. I think is has an expansion slot of some sort for data logging. The built in clock feature and EE-Pro software is missing :( ... show more

  • All the functions, but the buttons...
This calculator was an upgrade to my TI-84, as I needed the Nspire for the imaginary portion of my Intro to Circuits class. The calculator has a lot of functions and can solve almost anything for you, including Calculus, Statistics, and can even run some games if you install them. The main drawback are the buttons, which are much less user-friendly than the classic TI-84. The buttons do not give much physical feedback compared to the 84, are much more noisy, but most importantly, sometimes it seems that the numbers do not always register, so you always have to max sure you are inputting what you are clicking. ... show more

  • Product
I use this for AP Calc, and it is extremely useful. Because it is CAS, it has so many functions and can really help with homework if you know how to use it well. The battery life is a bit questionable however, as for mine, it goes down and up by 25% intervals. The battery only lasts a couple of hours for me, but that could be normal? ... show more

  • Best Calculator I've Ever Used
I'm a college student, studying for a degree in Economics. Needless to say, my life these days is all about maths. For the past couple of years I'd been using the TI 84 Plus CE which, although it's a pretty good graphing calculator all in all, has it's issues, but I is the recommended calculator for all the classes I've taken so far. So, imagine my surprise when I found out about the Nspire calculator series. The TI Nspire CXii CAS is an extraordinary tool. It can factor polynomials, calculate complex equations giving the answer in terms of i, and graph in 3D. That's right...Z-axis! The CAS in the calculator's name stands for Computer Algebra System. It allows you to solve polynomial equations in any number of variables and give answers in terms of those variables. That's right! You don't need numbers! One of my favorite upgrades is in the graphing feature. In the TI 83/84 series, if you wanted to trace a graph to a point of interest that was not in you current viewing window, you needed to leave the graph and go to a separate page where you needed to reset the viewing window to include your point of interest, then you had to navigate back to the graph and calculator would redraw it often very slowly. The Nspire CXii, on the other hand, allows you to make adjustments to the screen from a pop-up menu that comes up while you're still in graphing mode. And, if you don't want to bother with that, you can use the track pad to pick up the screen and move it, or you can just trace your chosen graph in either direction and when you reach the edge of the screen, it moves the screen to match your movements. You can also split the screen to view your table of values while looking at your graph! I'm still discovering all the things I can do with this calculator and I'm sure I'll continue to discover much more as I advance to higher levels of maths. There are entire apps dedicated to geometry, statistics, trigonometry, and more. Also, apparently there is a whole set of science tools witch can plug into the calculator to give you data on a wide range of things; heat, speed, velocity, etc. So much good stuff. Ok, now for areas that could use improvement. First, there is set of educational software that you can download and access for free when you purchase the calculator. Unfortunately, the software is only compatible with Windows or iOS. I, like many students, am a Chromebook user. Not making their systems compatible with Chrome OS is, in my opinion, an epic fail. I contacted their customer service department and suggested that improvement as well as a cloud computing option for those who want to access the tools from any computer. I was told that they passed my ideas on to their product development department. All in all, though, this is a great calculator! I'm sure I'll get several years of enjoyment out of it as I work toward my degree. It's way more intuitive and easier to navigate than the TI 84. That said, if you're like me, you'll need some help to get started. There's a pair of books by Lucas Allen in the Kindle store that really jump-started my understanding and enjoyment of the TI Nspire CXii CAS. I highly recommend reading them. ... show more
