  • Nice Flat Top
This is a nice top! The cast iron is ground really smooth, with no sharp edges, like someone took some pride in their work. Putting my straightedge just in front of the cutout, there's a gap of 0.35mm (0.014") on the left and 0.55mm (0.022" ) on the right. No quite to spec, but certainly close enough for woodworking IMO. To be fair, some of that could be my straightedge, although I I believe my straightedge to be very close to straight. My only (minor) complaint is that they put a slot in the table for a miter gauge, but that is clearly shown in the photos and description. After 45 years of woodworking, I still don't the need for a miter gauge on a router table, but maybe that's just me. ... show more

  • great iron top but need better packaging for shipping
it is truly an amazing iron top I have two comments to make 1 ). it is very heavy there is a card board packaging but I think they must have dropped my box it was a little damaged in one corner I had to file it and sand it so I guess a better packaging would be good 2 ) also if you buy the iron top from swastop you need to buy the table base from sawstop also. I bought the one from Kreg and I couldn't screw the top to the base the alignment was not compatible apart from that super happy about this iron top super shiny and polished ... show more

  • not flat
The top I got dipped at the cut-out. It was .024 lower than the edges of the table at the back left corner, and .020 low at the front right corner. I tried to set the router plate level with the edges of the table, and I couldn't, I think because the table edges weren't coplanar. When I set the plate level with the table edges in one place, it would be way off in another place. Also, a .020 dip is too big to feed a board over smoothly. Another reviewer said they couldn't use a Jessem lift because they couldn't secure the plate. I think you can make it work. I have an Incra lift, which is probably identical to the Jessem, and mine has 6 different bottom tapped holes on the bottom of the plate, that don't go through the plate. You can buy a piece of aluminum bar stock at Home Depot, which will cut and drill easily, and fit it an inch longer than the router plate so it spans the plate and overlaps the edges of the cut-out. Then drill holes in the bar stock that line up with a couple of the bottom tapped holes, and secure it with a couple of bolts and lock washers. A different reviewer said they had a Kreg table base that wouldn't work with the top because screw holes didn't line up. That's also a fairly easy fix. There are several tapped holes on the bottom of the cast iron top. You can buy a 10' piece of Unistrut, also at Home Depot. Cut two pieces with a Sawzall and a metal cutting blade, to a length that spans the bottom of the cast iron top. Make sure you file down the sharp edges of the Unistrut after you cut it. Fasten the pieces to the bottom of the top using the tapped holes. Then drill holes through the metal aprons on the Kreg base that are centered on the pieces of strut, slide strut nuts into the Unistrut to line up with the holes in the aprons, and fasten the Unistrut to the base with bolts. There are plenty of work-arounds to make this top fit with equipment that isn't the Sawstop brand. But one thing you can't fix is the flatness of the top. If you get a top that's within the Sawstop spec of .0118, you'll be good. But if you get one that's as far out as mine was, you'll have to send it back. ... show more

  • Durable, lifelong routing surface
I purchased this for a completely new and higher end routing and shaping solution, and overall, functions as intended [for me] but a few notes of caution; had to replace first table sent as it was NOT FLAT, about .020" variance, which is unacceptable, but replacement much better [.010 at most, edge to edge over a slight crown, which is better than dished]. I'll qualify any criticism by noting that I own a Sawstop PCS, for which I can find no fault whatsoever, impeccable quality and dead accurate, and tables/extensions are just plain flat. The router top is not the same, I'm afraid, though is fine in its own right. The jigs and fixtures I use employ miter bars, so having a durable, accurate miter slot was imperative, and this does. Table cutout is deep; if you opt for Jessem/Incra, as I did, I would suggest slightly longer set screws in the lift, for better purchase on the threads. I think its best to view this in a cost/benefit ratio, so good value for the price, but ultimately wish it was of quality equal to my PCS, thus making some of the phenolics compelling, though I would suggest a flat heavy substrate to resist the inevitable bowing of the surface. All in all, a 3 to 4 ... show more

  • beutifull table, well machined. Flatness not as good as it should be.
Very nice table. Well machined, ground, and finished. Very heavy duty. Although certainly usable, the table flatness was not as good as it should be. easily measured convex surface (better than concave!) exceeded flatness spec.

  • The vendor's answers to some questions are misleading - the Jessem router lift does not work
The Jessem mast-r-lift II does not work with this table as the corner screw holes necessary to secure the router lift to the table are not aligned between the Jessem lift and the Sawstop table top. There is no way to secure the router down to this table.
