  • Great saw blade.
Style: Blade
Whine, whine, whine... I guess people just like to whine in the other reviews. I almost didn't buy this blade due to the negative reviews. Then I thought to myself, why would sawstop make such a phenomenal table saw and then sell a cheap blade? So here is an honest review from a guy that knows what he's talking about. I have been teacher of high school and middle school woodshop and construction for over 25 years. Over 8000 students have come through my classroom. I also have done all my own home renovation and repair for over 30 years. And I have worked in the trades since I was 14. And oh by the way, I still have all 10 of my fingers, so I must know what I'm doing too. I have 2 sawstop table saws in my life, industrial model at school and a contractor model at home. This blade is a PERFECT blade for your perfect sawstop for most cutting. You may need the 80 tooth for materials like melamine, although even on these sheet goods, this blade still workes awesome. It gives a nearly mirror finish in both hard and soft woods, and has enough throat on the blade to cut quickly and efficiently. The teeth hold their edges well. Maybe other reviewers are confusing this blade for the general purpose $40 sawstop blade? That blade is a great general purpose blade that works OK, but not up to the task of cabinetmaking... But, these titanium blades are as good as any blade I have ever cut with. And this blade is quiet as can be. No ringing, as another reviewer stated. Why would you not buy the sawstop blade for your sawstop saw? They are designed by sawstop to work specifically WITH their sawstop safety system. Coated blades will cause a delay in the firing of the safety system, as the coating can block the electrical contact between the blade and the arbor. So never use coated blades on a sawstop. Blades with feed rate control designed in can also hinder the action of the brake system as they limit how fast the blade can chew into the braking block and stop, allowing more teeth to chew into your finger on that bad day you bought the saw to prevent. So I would never use those feedrate control blades either. Think about it. You paid lots of money for the sawstop saw to get their safety braking system. Why would you not buy their blades, so you were guaranteed the braking system would work correctly? And why would they put so much attention into building the perfect saw, to then cut corners on their blades? My only minor complaint is their blades are a full 1/8 thick. But once again this is necessary to ensure there is plenty of strength in the blade for that time when the braking system fires and saves your finger. A thin kerf blade would not stop as quickly as there would be less friction. But do you really safe that much with a thin kerf blade you have to pay more for? Really? I doubt it. I started woodworking back in the days when there were only 1/8 inch kerf blades. Everything always worked great back then. So maybe it is a little wider than say a 3/16 thin kerf. But it is safer, and at 1/8 the math where you need to account for the kerf width sure is easier. Other negative reviewers can say what they want. This is a perfect blade, designed for a perfect saw. It is priced comparably to every other blade. So don't let the whiners get to you. Got a sawstop. Just buy this blade... ... show more

  • Better than I expected
Style: Blade
This is actually a very nice blade. I previously had a Freud Fusion 410 in the Saw Stop that got munched when I forgot to disable the brake when cutting pressure treated lumber. That was a nice thin kerf blade that rips and cross cuts nicely and I was pissed at the cost of my mistake. I decided to try this new SawStop blade because it was a bit cheaper than the Freud or a Forrest. If I'm going to mistakenly eat a blade now and then with an accidentally triggered brake, I want it to be a cheaper blade. Know what? This blade is pretty damn good. It rips and crosscuts cleanly and is rather quiet. I don't have a lot of time on it at this point, but so far, I am not missing my Freud or Forrest blades, which says a lot, I think. Nice blade Saw Stop! ... show more

  • smooth as butter
Style: Blade
I have been using my SawSop saw for about a month now, with the standard blade that came with it. But the original blade got wrecked when I tripped the brake, so I ordered two replacement blades -- one standard, and one of these fancy titanium blades. I have been cutting oak into strips to make small boxes -- it is hard wood. Today I switched in the new titanium blade and it made a big difference. It cut more smoothly, and where the other blade was heating the wood to the point that it was smoking, this blade cut so fast it did not smoke the wood. I have only used it for a day, so I cannot speak to durability, but at this point I would say it is worth the price difference. ... show more

  • Very good rip and cross cuts on hardwood and plywood. The blade is noisy (whine or a kind of ringing noise).
Style: Blade
I have almost 8 years of experience in woodworking area. I am a home improvement contractor. I do kitchen and bathroom upgrades with custom made cabinets, bookshelves, entry doors and a little of fine woodworking staff. During this 8-year period I've owned/used several dozens of different blades from different manufacturers (red, orange, yellow, dark blue, blue, green, etc.). I've received this SawStop BTS-R-40ATB blade two days ago and I've tested this blade on my 3HP cabinets saw upon arrival. The blade did pretty good rip and crosscuts on pine, walnut, oak and 3/4 inch plywood. While doing rip cuts on 3/4 inch plywood, I've observed only very minimal tear out with a smooth plywood edge. Crosscuts on 3/4 inch plywood were better than average. There was a little of tear out on plywood veneer, but I would say that it wasn't bad at all. Very good rip cuts on hardwoods. No burning marks and it feels like you don't have to push the wood while ripping. As other people have mentioned in their reviews this blade makes some ringing noise, not a lot and only when no load on the blade applied. It is not irritating and in fact, if you are working and not staying and looking at your saw you wouldn't even notice that noise. So, this blade is a great general purpose blade for a table saw and hopefully it will last for a while. Update #1: Today I was running this blade on my table saw for several hours mostly cutting 1/4 inch plywood for cabinet doors and cabinet back panels.... The whine/ringing noise is definitely there and it is noticeable. It is almost a couple of hours since I've stopped using my saw, but the whine is still in my ears. Planning to use the blade tomorrow for several again. Need to cut 3/4 inch plywood, 1/4 inch plywood and a lot of solid wood boards for cabinet face frames. Will see if that ringing noise/whine produced by the blade will any different. Don't know what to say. On the first glance it wasn't a big deal, but after several hours of work it appears to be an issue, at least for me. Should mention that the blade cuts pretty well both rip and cross cuts. ... show more
