Dampens. Muffles. Works fine, but upon receipt it have a distinct oder from the black dye used ( or mine was packed in a cheap cigar factory). There is too much dye also so it can leave a ring on your guitar or bass. Just run them through the wash once alone (soap or not is fine) to remove the excess dye and stink and you'll be fine. These are simple to use, work well, and fit perfectly. It came with 2 in a pack. I use one of them on my 7 string guitars and the other on my 6 string. I assume the larger one is for a bass guitar. However, it fits my 7 string guitars perfectly.

I am a bass player and have seen many YouTube videos with musicians using mute dampers. They appear to be wider then SAPHUE product. I really didn't notice much difference in sound when using the product. They seem to be of low quality materials and will wear out quickly. Maybe that is why they give you two of them.
