  • Durable useful product
Color: Black Capacity: 8GB Style: 1.44” TFT-LCD
We purchased this to use on the move and have not been disappointed. No need to worry about wifi or data, get your music or audio learning wherever you like. This small powerhouse has lasted us for several years with only the replacement of the ear buds once. You just load on whatever you want to listen to and it works well. ... show more

  • Audiobooks - Overdrive & Audible Work but Pause is bad
Color: Black Capacity: 8GB Style: 1.44” TFT-LCD
UPDATE: 11/15/14 Just found out that you can NOT transfer overdrive (library) WMA format books. I didn't realize it earlier because all the books I'd put on it were in MP3 format which do work fine, but some library books only come in WMA and apparently the sport only supports DRM free WMA, which means not library books. UPDATE: 11/8/14 Wound up w/problems w/this clip & had to return for replacement. Was w/in 30 so did thru Amazon & just got new one in. Will see how it works. This happens occasionally w/clip+ & zip so not too worried. Still think the clip+ is the best, followed by the zip, then the sport. UPDATE: 10/5/14 I have since found the Pause delay has gotten much worse than when I 1st tried it & can last way too long like others said - sometimes about 15 seconds when resuming play - which may not sound like much, but it is. It becomes very problematic in that it takes so long you don't know if you pushed play again or not. If you push it again too soon then when it finally does come on it immediately goes off again. Sometimes it's taken me up to 6 tries to get it right & that is ANNOYING! Also, it tends to go to have a delay before playing after you FFWD, which again can cause the same problem. And, as others said, the FFWD is Very Slow. Sometimes when I try to FFWD I have a pause issue & then somehow it goes back to the start of the book & then I have to start all over w/the FFWD - again - very irritating. The bigger screen seems a waste too, as the book cover is shown in a tiny square that's hard to see. In the zip it fills the whole screen & is actually bigger, so what was the point of the larger screen? I don't know who at SanDisk could actually think all these usage & design changes were good ideas, as far as I can see they've only come closer to ruining a good thing. If they wanted a new & improved clip, they should've kept all the features & workings of the clip+ & just added a larger color screen, a more durable clip (& a longer battery time is always nice), but changed nothing else. Each newer model, even the zip, but especially the sport has taken away more than it's gained. For the meantime, I've reduced it from 4 to 3 stars & must say the sport model is the worst of the 3. I'll be writing to Sansa support to see if there is some sort of software fix. If there is, I'll revise this review again. ------------------ Original Review: Works fine with audiobooks. Read a number of bad reviews & 1 that said couldn't use with library's Overdrive Media system, but I did not have any real trouble with it. Yes, it's true, doesn't have a MSC setting, but I xfr'd books from OM w/no problems. The only difference was I normally make a new folder under audiobooks & name it w/book title, series # & author's name. When I made a new folder it wouldn't let me name it. Instead I simply chose Audiobooks, then in the first box where that showed, went in and typed a / then how I wanted sub folder to be named, then continued as usual. It make the sub folder as I named it and xfr'd the files there. When I checked my books folder, they were all there under the folders I'd named that way. I'd had this same problem once before with a clip zip, and it's not a major impediment, it's actually a bit faster, really. With Audible, I've never been able to activate or deactivate a device, I always have to contact them to reset. Also at 1st it showed the internal drive space as the external drive space even tho no card was in the clip. I chat'd them & they logged onto my pc, activated it, renamed the drive it was showing as & now it works fine. They even fixed another problem I'd had w/Audible software crashing when I tried to delete books on any of my clips. They said the drive identification problem was specific to the clip sport, but they fixed in in almost no time & I would've had to call them regardless of which clip type I bought. It is slightly bigger, about 1/4" taller, 1/8" wider & 1/16" deeper but it's still darn small & the bigger screen makes it a bit easier to read. I haven't tried in sunlight but I can't read either the clip+ or zip in sunlight either, I just find or make some shade. I listen only to audiobooks so I can't comment on playlists or other music functions. Re the power button, I don't have a problem w/it working, but I would prefer a separate button, don't know why it was removed. Re the pause/play delay. Yes, there is one. It's about 1-3 seconds from pressing pause & about 2-7 seconds for pressing play again. I didn't find it to be an extremely long delay, but again, would prefer they fix that issue but it's not a deal breaker for me, I just have to remember to wait those few seconds & not try pressing the button again too soon! I can see where if you are doing something where you're operating the functions w/o looking it would be irritating. I haven't tried copying cd books that I've ripped w/windows media player, but I know that the order always gets messed up with clip zips, so I've always only used storage on micro cards with the clip+ for those books. They changed something when they made the zip & I'm guessing the sport won't be different, but I'll add a post if I find differently. I use the zip & now the sport for Overdrive & Audible. I always keep 3 clips at any given time as they tend to die in about a year of daily use (2-10/hrs per day) and any Overdrive books I've stored for them can't be put on a different clip, but they're cheap enough that works for me. The clip mechanism breaks sometimes (I have 2 working zips now w/broken clips) but I then use 2 part epoxy & glue a potato chip clip on and they don't last as long but can always glue a new 1 on as long as the clip works. Also, sometimes a clip dies & if holding down the power button for a long time doesn't work, I've found if I wait a few days sometimes then I can connect to usb on pc & it starts working again. Yes, all clips have specific issues and the old clip+ is still my favorite and I'll always keep 1 of them that works, but for the other 2 I get what ever's on sale at the best price. I wanted an 8gb this time because I don't like to put Overdrive books on storage cards & it was only $10 more than a 4gb clip+ (for some reason their price has gone up recently). I, too, hope Sansa keeps making the clip+ because it's still the best one out there (because it can play copied cd books) but to me the zip & sport are pretty equal except for the mildly annoying pause delay, but if I can get an 8gb sport for same price as a 4gb zip, I'll live w/that! Sansa CLIPS are still by far the BEST & CHEAPEST & ONLY SMALL MP3 players that work well for audiobooks, so I'm still a loyal customer. ALSO THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY HELPFUL. They always replace any that break w/1 yr warranty, they help w/problems even after & sometimes can fix by updating software, etc. So for all those folks who had a problem, call Sansa before you give them a bad review! I use them for many hours every day & have for years now, so I know of what I speak. (Also, don't ask me why, but I've found the purple clip+ tends to have tighter audio jacks which cause static if headphone is not fully connected & it's harder to push jack all the way in, so just stay away from the purples - tho they will replace it if you have problems. Never had any trouble like that with black, blue or red one's.) Yes, the developers have cheese for brains & the only 'improvement' in the newer models is larger screen w/color & graphics which can make book identification by cover image easier to figure out even if can't read type & the other changes in my opinion make them not work as well as the clip+. Those differences may not matter with music, but do for audiobooks. Each type has some flaws (& battery time is never as good as advertised, I'd say 8 hrs for clip+ & zip) but they're still better than anyone else for a no hassle, easy to use, tiny clip that you can wear w/o dragging on clothes or falling out of pockets & their prices can't be beat! I've looked & looked over the years & have never found anything better. So I still say thanks to Sansa for making the clips! ... show more

  • Best MP3 player, for the money, that I have ever bought!
Color: Black Capacity: 8GB Style: 1.44” TFT-LCD
There was a lot of pros and cons that I read on here before buying. I had my skeptism, but for my purposes... This MP3 player has exceeded all my expectations. I have not owned another SanDisk Clip, so this is not a comparision like other reviews I have read. Use: I use it primarily to run. I run 3-4 times a week, about 30 min a run. I clip it to my pocket, facing out. Clip: Didn't have to buy any extra case for it, the clip works great! It has never moved. Feels real sturdy and clips on tight! Battery: The battery has lasted well. I have used it for probably about 300 min and I would call the battery bar between 80-90% with only the initial charge when I first received the device. Loading Songs: Its a breeze to load songs, just like a flash drive (who would've thought from a company that makes them). You just drop it into the folder you want, and it appears on the device. Quality: Both the song quality and the quality of the physical device have been great. Songs all sound great (I have not tried the headphones that came with the device, I use Sennheiser CX 685 Adidas In-Ear Headphones). Light weight material, and seems very strong and sturdy. Price: Can the price be beat?! $50 for an 8 GB MP3 player!! And its not even something that ONLY shuffles. You can play a certain song, an entire artist or album, or click random for either everything, an artist, or an album. Extras: A lot of people have talked about it not have a lock button and changing songs during workouts. I have never had it change songs on me when I wasn't purposefully clicking the button. Its extremely light weight, I never even feel it clipped to my pocket. If you run out of storage room, you can upgrade your memory with its external memory port. In my opinion, there is no reason to buy an iPod MP3, if you have a smart phone. If you want to go the route of the MP3 player, this should be your last stop! Good quality at a minimal cost! I have a smart phone to do smart things, my MP3 player I just want to play music and other audio files. Pros: Price, sound quality, device quality, expandable memory, battery life. Cons: Touch screen? (I didn't want or need a touch screen) ... show more
