This was my move from the built-in tv speakers to something external. HOLY COW. What a difference. I used to have to turn the tv speakers up to about 60 to hear quiet movie scenes, especially if the kids were playing in the background. The tv speakers seemed to not get any louder once you hit about 30. This soundbar is GREAT. The first movie I watched after I got it was Mad Max. The sound experience was incredible compared to what I had before. I used the included digital audio wire to connected directly to the TV (Sony LED tv from 2011) and there was no lag between the screen and the audio. The speaker turns on automatically when I turn on the tv. The onyl negative is that I have to use 2 different remotes now, since I can't control the audio on the tv. The volume must be controlled via the soundbar remote instead of the tv. This may be different for other tvs, and I suspect a Samsung TV would maybe allow this? I've also used the bluetooth for playing music through my phone via Spotify. It works great. Pairs easily, easy to change the input on the soundbar with the remote to bluetooth, and start playing. For my application, it sits on top of the mantle, and I love the minimalist look. It's not super noticeable, and is easy to put some decor around or in front. The setup was really easy. The wireless subwoofer connected right away, and I haven't had any issues with it. I have it positioned about 10 feet from the soundbar behind a recliner in a corner. I also like that you can control how much bass boost via the remote. This allows you to tune more or less subwoofer to the sound and you can really tell the difference when you change it. I love this sound system. It solved the problem my Samsung 65 high-end TV had with poor quality sound in a room with a very high ceiling. I’ve had it for three years and couldn’t be happier. I tried two other systems that did not work in my great room.

    • Great value. Disappointed by inability to use TV remote to control soundbar
Im using the HW-A450 soundbar with my Series 7 Samsung TV (2019 model) I love the quality of the sound for the price. Setup was easy. The subwoofer synced to the soundbar by itself. My only complaint is that when using the optical connection I can't use the TV's remote to control the volume, the only way to do that is by using the Bluetooth connection which had a delay and the quality of sound wasn't as good. I decided to not sacrifice on sound quality and use the soundbar remote for volume control. I'm disappointed that I even had to make that choice. I can't stand having to keep up with a second remote. My other soundbar is a Samsung Hardon Kardon that connected to the TV using HDMI. I was able to get high quality sound AND use the TV's remote on this same TV, and my newer 2020 8 Series Samsung. If you don't mind having to keep up with a second remote then this A450 soundbar is an excellent choice. If I had known I was going to have this issue ahead of time I'd have just spent the extra 50$ and bought the A550 that is HDMI capable. Still contemplating returning and upgrading. ... show more

    • Easy to use, easy to setup
I don’t watch tv every day, and when I do I watch I maybe an hour or so. I’m not looking for or expecting a sound system that will blow me away. I wanted something that takes up minima space, and had better clarity than TV speakers. I got this on sale for around $110, and for the price the A550 works well. It pairs with the sub so you can place the sub where you want it and you don’t need to worry about routing wires. It also pairs with your phone so you can play music from it. The soundbar looks clean and doesn’t have annoying lights. You can mount it on the wall if you want. It’s just a soundbar, so be aware it is not as “full” sounding as having 5 physical speakers for 5.1. It can use HDMI ARC, HDMI, or optical and BT for other devices. Gripes: 1. When using Optical the sound cut out. Not sure why, but I switched to HDMI. 2. Installing updates requires downloading a file to a certain type of flash drive, and then inserting into the soundbar. There is instructions on it, but some of my flash drives were incompatible. ... show more

Below is my review from unit #1 which was defective. Amazon made the return/replacement process easy. I received a replacement unit the day after UPS picked up the returned unit. The replacement works flawlessly. Review of first unit: Item arrived packaged well, no apparent damage. I set it up. Problem #1 -- the control buttons on top are used to change input from HDMI to USB to Optical. It was stuck at USB. No amount of button pushing would change the input to Optical. Hence, useless to me. BUT, the buttons on top aren't really needed because there's a remote control. First, it took 30 minutes just to open the battery cover. It's supposed to slide off, but the design is terrible and the cover would not budge. Finally got it off and loaded the AA batteries they provided. No joy, the remote did not work. Would not turn unit on/off or anything else. I tried multiple sets of new batteries and that didn't help. So now I need to package it all up again and return it. I like the advertised features, so I'm giving Samsung one more chance with a replacement unit. Will be super angry if the replacement is defective as well. ... show more

    • Fantastic for the price
It sounds great and has good booms. You can't beat the price and you can't go wrong with samsung. My only thing that's a minimal in complaints is the sub doesn't fully shut down when turned down to -12. Would be nice for an option to completely shut of the subwoofer. I don't regret buying this at all and I love it regardless of the small complaint. Update: it still works after spending alot of time with it. It has a very weird sound glitch which is very loud and sounds like an audio spike screech and it's very bazaar. It stops when I mute and un mute.
